  1. Yeah but a lot of those throwing errors would have been picked by a competent first baseman.
  2. Whenever the Sox play the Orioles it's blocked out on MLB Extra Innings so I watch the local telecast. With every single hit Jim Palmer always blames the pitcher. He never gives the hitter credit, even when he hit a really good pitch. I've been listening to it for years. What a huge win last night was. This is why you trade for a true ace. I love how they extended Campbell already. It may blow up, as Bello has so far, but worth the risk. Keep doing this.
  3. Why is Leiter starting their 2nd game of the season? Do their pitchers have injuries or is this really the 2nd best starter they have?
  4. I remember seeing this and laughing my ass off. What a crued way to attempt to measure the speed of a fastball.
  5. I grew up going to DC Stadium, later named RFK. The dimensions were 335 LF, 380 LC, 408 to straightaway center. Today Camden Yards, even with the LF now backed up and with the same hot humid weather, is actually a little smaller. 333 LF, 376 LC and 400 to straightaway center. And the warehouse, which stands 439 feet from home plate, has only been hit once and that was in batting practice.
  6. This is why I keep asking. I SAW where Reggie hit that home run in the All Star Game. I saw Frank Howard hitting home runs to places that just aren't reached today. A quick search showed me several articles that claim there have been no significant changes to the basebal since 1971 and home run totals are up dramatically today. So this is puzzling to me.
  7. Yeah I never understood how they measured a 500 foot homerun in 1962. But again I saw where that transformer was on the roof at Tiger Stadium that Reggie Jackson hit. We just don't see moon shots like that anymore and if the players are so much stronger then how can we explain this? It can't be the ball, home run totals in 2024 were far higher than they were in 1971 yet we don't see the big bombs like we used to.
  8. I thought it was a legit question to ask. If players are bigger, faster and stronger why did they hit the ball further 50 years ago?
  9. I know my comment was off topic but the size, strength and conditioning of the players was brought up so I thought I'd throw it out there. Do you have any idea why we aren't seeing 600 foot home runs? Or is this best asked in some other thread?
  10. All of this is true. Which is why I never understood why we are not seeing home runs launched further than Reggie Jackson or Mickey Mantle hit them. I was at Tiger Stadium a week after Jackson hit that transformer on the roof at the All Star Game. I couldn't hit that with a driver and a Titelist.
  11. Not sure what we are doing here. Are you really arguing that Yoshida is not inconsistant and does not go through long dry spells?
  12. In June of '24 he hit .204 with an OPS of .549. So it was at least a month and it felt and probably was longer than just those 4 weeks. And it was not at the start or end of the season.
  13. Pretty excited to read of his development. I wasn't that high on Fitts because his heater was topping out at 94. But if he hit 99 well that changes everything. Not sure what his role will be but it will be fun to find out.
  14. His overall hitting stats are not bad, just lacking in power. The problem is he is just so streaky and when he is cold he stays cold for months.
  15. I saw the Red Sox steal, what was it 9 bases on the Yankees catcher? Is Wong really worse defensively than that guy? Is he really the worst defensive catcher in baseball? I mean his fWAR does not lie, I don't really care about DRS so much, all I know is he hit .280 with an OPS of .758. Even with the bad 2nd half those are better than average hitting stats for a catcher and he can run the bases which is very rare for a catcher. I'm not claiming he is a strength but trying to understand why so many feel he is a disaster. If he really is a huge weakness then I need to re-evaluate what I think of this big trade.
  16. Sorry for my ignorance by why are people so down on Connor Wong? I understand his defense is below average but wouldn't a catcher with a career OPS of .833, a rare catcher with speed, make up for that defensive deficiency with his offense? I hated to see Teel go as well but never understood why fans thought they were "stuck" with a catcher who is clearly above average offensively and hope someone can explain that to me.
  17. I just can't get into the Red Sox after watching what Jayden Daniels is. You guys got this for 2 decades, glad it's finally our turn to have a real QB.
  18. This is true but he remained wildly inconsistent and hit .225 in September. I can't have players who disappear for months at any point in the season.
  19. Pretty good breakdown, one most of us agree with I would think. Not sure if there is room with the farm help on the way but I'd roll with Rafaela in CF next season. I believe he will learn to be more selective and not swing at sliders a foot out of the zone at some point. Hell if he never improves his offense and is a good centerfielder that's still pretty good production from the 9 spot. And he does have upside. It's hard for me to believe in Trevor Story at this point. This was not a bad year, it was 2 horrible seasons when he did play. I'm also not sold on Houck as a top line starter, maybe a 2 or 3. They need an ace and bullpen help which is easier and cheaper to acquire. I am fine giving up top prospects in another Pedro/Sale type of trade. Will Giolito exercise his option for 2025? I have to think so. With a true #1, Giolito, Houck, along with the rest that would be a decent starting staff. I want Whit in the pen and I have no idea what to make of Bello now. Raffy to 1st is interesting to me. They simply have to improve their defense, it's been bad for too long.
  20. I think we all knew it was a massive overpay. Still I was expecting a better player.
  21. A guy who routinely goes into slumps that last for months can't be counted on. Such a disappointment.
  22. I tuned in last April just to see the young players, we all knew this was a lost season. I watched in amazement as a team with terrible starting pitching and a lineup full of .220 hitters hovered around .500. I credit Cora for much of that. Then the team started hitting, their centerfielder was the MVP of the All Star game and a player baseball people were talking about. All summer they were playing meaningful games and firmly in the playoff chase. I never expected that. Still extremely pissed at John Henry for what he did to us but for this season I got more than I expected so no real complaints.
  23. I am for trading Abreu but I'd hate to see Duran including in any package. He was the heart and soul of the team for much of the season and the most exciting player we have seen in a long time. He went from a bad OF who took poor angles to a good OF through hard work, love this guy.
  24. I can't say I'd be happy with a former All Star hitting .250 but I get your point.
  25. Well I am among the others, I can't stand how he is running the team over the recent years. I'm now torn on what I want him to do because before he was a great owner that we all loved.
