  1. I freaking loved that movie.
  2. I made the same comment earlier in the year. After watching the NESN coverage for the first time all year I couldn't believe how cheesy the ESPN coverage was. As you said too many side shows, too much in the booth interviews in the middle of an inning. Just call the damned game and cut out the fluff.
  3. Hard to find many disappointments in what may very well be the best regular season in Sox history. But the first thing I thought of was Devers. Not to be confused with giving up on him he just had star written all over him and I kind of expected him to make a leap forward, not backwards. Peddy has been my favorite player for a while, that was another big disappointment. I kind of knew our pen sucked and Kelly, we'll he's Joe Kelly and rapidly approaching Daniel Bard territory. Sometimes it takes more than a 100 MPH heater.
  4. Yeah I agree, Wright has been a very good pitchers since he got to Boston. But yes as we saw again last weekend going into October with the bullpen as it's been constructed is an invitation for an early exit. They need to change things, they don't have one guy any of us should trust in the 6th-8th innings of a tight playoff game. I trust Wright before most of those other guys, I don't want our playoff fate in the hands of Barnes, Kelly etc. So last night I see a 0 next to the Red Sox score in the 5th inning and I just chuckle. They never seem to score in the early innings then they go off in the later innings. It's been remarkable and interesting to watch. Really enjoyed Brock Holt's homer last night. I love that guy.
  5. Wright could, emphasis on the could part, be one solution to the set up problems. He hasn't allowed a run after he returned and got us to Kimbrel last night. I got over the concern of bring in a knuckle baller in the late inning with men on base in October with Tim Wakefield.
  6. So it was the pitcher's fault he stuck out 300? Is he supposed to try less hard to save himself? I too see it as the manager's decision on how many innings his ace threw.
  7. Great idea for a thread. After the comeback against the Braves I thought of the best moments of the year as well. That game was one of my favorites, the next moment I thought of was was Mookie's 13 pitch grand slam, then the Yankees sweep. It's just been a really fun year to be a Sox fan.
  8. This Sale thingy is really starting to piss me off. Really could use a stopper right about now.
  9. I've defended Yankees fans here because I think it's good to get other perspectives, I thought Sox fans jumped on them too harshly for simply stating opinions. But when you visit other boards you need to demonstrate respect. You haven't done that, instead you kind of act like an ass. Don't be that guy, it's not a good look. Back on topic I was thinking of this thread as I watched ERod paint the corners all night in his first start in a month and a half. What a fantastic performance.
  10. I didn't even want to mention that as he is our best hope, he is also an injury risk. I'm just saying there are real concerns here for a team whose plan is for their starters to overcome the bullpen shortcomings. Even at our best the top 3 starters here are third best group in the AL playoffs, now we are banking on 2 guys who were coming back from injury and their effectiveness is unknown, one who has throw to 3 batters in his playoff history, and a third player who has never been a good playoff pitcher. That's a whole lot of ifs on September 1st.
  11. Price has never been a good playoff pitcher and that was when he was a dominant in the regular season, since coming to Boston he has been inconstant and still holds that playoff label. I love ERod but he has never recorded an out in the playoffs and is unproven, he is also our 4th-5th starter when everyone is healthy..
  12. I hate to continue to post negative comments, I've really enjoyed this season and love our team. Talk of a wild card game is nonsense, the Sox will win the division. But if you can't see the issues with this pitching staff you aren't being honest with yourself. A month ago one of the networks showed the numbers for the top teams and their top 3 starters. Ours was clearly third to Cleveland and the Stros. Now Price has improved since then but that was when Sale was healthy and dominant. Now he is a question mark, Price has a well known history in October and nobody should trust Porcello at this point. Next we have the bullpen and the much discussed set up men problem. Add into it Kimbrel's last month and the fact that October is all about pitching and if you aren't concerned you should be.
  13. Boy they really miss Peddy, my favorite player. 2nd base has been a black hole all year and Kinsler is apparently not the answer. I'm not worried, although I'd be lying if I said I am not looking closer at the standings now. Sox are just going through a little rough patch as they face better pitching and that continues today.
  14. What an effort by JBJ last night on that near miss, boy he is fun to watch.
  15. Jones was my first thought. Griffey Jr. also came to mind. There have been so many amazing CFs throughout history to claim JBJ was the best of them all is nonsense.
  16. I love Bogaerts. He is hot and cold a bit but man when he's having a good night it's a really good night. Last night could have been even bigger had the CF not made a great play on his last shot.
  17. That was my position all year and it didn't seem to get much support. It was not a slight at JBJ, just respect for all the other CFs around the league. JBJ is a tremendous center fielder but the truth is he may make a play or 2 a month that the others do not make and that's not enough to offset his at bats.
  18. It is a great story and I was rooting for him. I swear that sac fly he hit the other night looked like a dinger. But let's be honest, the man can't play at the major league level and he was lucky to get this many games.
  19. This. He doesn't like the advanced stats because it just shows that he is living up to his name Werthless.
  20. I will never understand how that cutter was so unhittable. Everyone knew it was coming and what it was going to do but few could hit the damned thing.
  21. Yeah I've been noticing, seems like he's got one hit in a week and a half. I still can't believe that play by Leon last night, how he held the ball amazes me. What didn't amaze me was JD Martinez. As the Toronto announcers were saying "you can't let him beat you" I said "yeah good luck with that" right before the 2-0 pitch that was turned around and went out in about .4 seconds.
  22. I had no problem with that steal attempt. It's the price you pay for being aggressive and their aggressive base running has worked far more than it has failed.
  23. I've been saying the same thing for months. Very disappointed DD didn't acquire a set up man. Sure Barnes has been good but that's not nearly enough. I'm not worried about Kimbrell, that was an aberration the other night. But the rest I don't trust to hold a 1 run lead in October to get to Kimbrell.
  24. I was thinking exactly what the announcers said, towards the end it felt like a no-hitter. That was one of the best pitching performances I've seen in a while.
