  1. Whew what a relief. How low is the David Price bar when a poster describes a line of 4 ER in 4 2/3 as "good enough". It really wasn't, he got bailed out by his teammates on yet another post season failure. But so far I've been looking wrong on my bullpen comments. Obviously bringing in starters to close out the 8th has been a key, but I still don't trust Barnes and Kelly. Man I wish we had Wright. I am sill a believer in Kmbrell but it's getting harder and harder to justify that. At least he went with more fastballs this time out, he just needs to throw strikes. But I'm very happy we saved our season last night, getting one with Cole on the mound was huge.
  2. Not really. You are comparing giving a big contract to a player with deciding to give your money to a crook. Two different things.
  3. I had the Stros in 6, I'm thinking 5 now and that's not an overreaction to last night's game. The Sox ace is not the same guy, they now go to a guy who has never gotten in done in October, then the go on the road against the most complete team in baseball. Then of course there is the bullpen.....
  4. I'm not sure you can compare hiring a person with investing with a money manager. Two different things. When you hire someone you are determining their value with the size of the contract.
  5. Pro athletes are not overpaid. They are the best in the world and unlike hacks like Vin Diesel the have had to earn their way to the top by being better than others with actual head to head competition. Nobody seems to complain when The Rock made $64 million in 2015, money coming from his fans who see no reason not to spend their money watching his movies, when we know damned well there are 1,000 better actors currently waiting tables in LA alone. We also know damned well there are not 1,000 players as good as Clayton Kershaw waiting tables. You put that with the longevity of an athlete's career when compared to actors, tv personalities and musicians (Diddy made $130 mil in 2017, where is the outrage?) and there is nothing wrong what so ever with athlete's salaries. You are worth exactly what someone is willing to pay you, be it an owner who gets paid by the fans or from the fans directly with the purchase of their concert tickets and music.
  6. I am a huge fan of instant replay in every sport. The delay is worth it if they can get the call right. But one of the trade offs was how that game ended the other night. What a buzz kill it was to hear "hit the pause button" as they reviewed the play.
  7. Yeah I don't get champagne for advancing to the ALCS.
  8. I think the OP is asking a legit question. The "Price Haters" have ever reason to be haters. If the link above is accurate the man holds the second worst post season ERA in history. Read that again. The second worse ERA in post season history. Cora has to start him obviously but the reason for concern is very very real.
  9. Yeah it was the same with Kinsler's fly out early for me, I gave both a 50/50. Agree with the early post that CC and Stanton were really terrible last night when it mattered the most.
  10. Yeah that sure was an exciting way for the series to end, I woke my wife up for sure on that final out. I have no idea why Kimbrell throws so many breaking balls, that 9th inning was torture. But as Mookie says it's what makes this game so much fun. For the first 3 hours of the game I much prefer football to baseball. But the 9th inning of a deciding playoff game provides excitement and drama that is rarely matched in other sports.
  11. Get the phuck out of here with your crying after the Red Sox just eliminated the New York Yankees. Let me repeat that, the Red Sox just eliminated the New York Yankees.
  12. I really am wondering about this whole warm up thing, I read a poster on another board who was at the game and he said Severino definitely was warming up 20 minutes before the game. We were all wondering which Eovaldi was going to show up last night, clearly it was Good Eovaldi and he was the #1 star last night. I had posted earlier in the year when he was hitting .240 that I was a Brock Holt fan, you need guys like that on your team. Great to see him have such a tremendous evening both ways. God I love this team. They can go deep, they can string together hit after hit and they can also end up on 2nd and 3rd on a bloop single to left with great base running.
  13. JD has been tremendous, obviously, but I don't get the comments I hear where Mookie may be the league MVP but JD is the Red Sox MVP. As posted Mookie does everything well. His base running and defense really changes games. I don't see any way he does not win the MVP.
  14. Yeah I was not expecting that last night, very very concerning.
  15. Yeah we spoke of that. I see E Rod possibly being the 4th starters and Eovaldi is so inconsistent you just never know which guy will show up. Not exactly a guy I trust with 2 on and none out with Altuve coming up in the 7th. I was big on Wright in this role but his showing against the Mets has cooled me on that. So even if they move Rodgriguez to the pen that's not nearly enough.
  16. I will never come off my position that this year has been a great run and a whole lot of fun but this bullpen will be their downfall in the playoffs. They have only one guy they can count on and even Kimbrell has had his issues of late. None of the others, not a one of them, can be trusted in tight spots against playoff lineups for the number of games it takes to win the World Series.
  17. By the way congrats to the Boston Red Sox for setting their all time win record. 107 wins is unbelievable and they are not done. I see 110 possibly 111.
  18. Seems to me even when Cora rests his starters the Sox still win. LOL at Joe Kelly again last night. I've seen enough, I hope he does not pitch one meaningful inning in October.
  19. Those Manny/Ortiz/Pedro/Schill teams come to mind too. Those teams had Teck behind the plate, he handled pitchers ever bit as well as this group does and he wasn't a black hole in the lineup. And those teams had far better pens.
  20. I am still trying to figure out how this Red Sox team has won 105 games. I'm not even convinced it's the best Sox team in my life time yet here they are ready to set the all time win total record. It's just been a magical year and a whole lot of fun to watch.
  21. Oh I'm definitely rooting for the record with the understanding that it means nothing in a few weeks.
  22. Yeah as an old guy as my name suggests this is so strange to me, to watch a Red Sox team that runs this well.
  23. Yeah that's good news about Price, he has been great this year. As I watched it unfold I was thinking last night may be good for the Sox come playoff time. Maybe Cora will finally understand that Joe Kelly can not be trusted late in the game.
  24. My issue is not middle relief, it's the set up men getting to Kimbrel. I was pimping the Wright idea for that role, then he proceeds to get into and then out of trouble again last night. LOL, not sure that's what I wanted to see. Good to see Kimbrel shut down the 9th but what was up with all the curve balls? By the way I know it's not nice to say this when he is sick and recovering but I prefer Eck to Remey.
