  1. I wasn't on this forum (if it existed!). But local media used to trash Boggs, Clemens, and Rice in particular. (I loved the laments: "We have to put up with Boggs; we'll NEVER get to see Cooper!"). But you're right that some players escaped this: Tiant is a good example; Evans is another.
  2. You don't recall how they were trashed the last few years they were here?
  3. The anti-JD rhetoric is odd. But then, it's a variant of the "we-can't-afford BOgey" argument, Devers 'occasionally runs into one' claim, anti-Boggs, anti-Clemens, anti-Jim Rice. It's a specialty of RS fans.
  4. Please provide evidence for this. I'm serious, because I am not aware of any.
  5. Ha! Exactly. And that is brilliantly expressed.
  6. And I don't think he's as important as the players. (In fact, I can only name one other RS owner, and I don't give a crap about him either.). But I suppose if you reframe the argument to apply to single players only? I'll take Ted Williams over Henry any day. As for owners in general, let's see how many sports team owners I can name off the top of my head: Jerry Jones, R. Sarver, James Dolan, Donald Sterling, Frank McCourt ... I think I'm beginning to see a pattern here.
  7. Excellent! We got two windy days, but not even serious swells (at least, not today).
  8. Dude, did you read the "etc." part? This is about whether players are more important than owners. You did not ask me to evaluable thousands of RS players of the last century and a half, or to list them in that order.
  9. That's not what he says above, though.
  10. I think the best thing that has happened to the Sox in 90 years are the players: Williams, Yaz, Boggs, Pedro, Bogaerts, etc. Shouldn't rabid fans of owners be reading WSJ and following the stock market?
  11. Yeah I'm getting rid of my doctors to; I don't like the fact that I got Covid, had the flu earlier, got a concussion, and am generally not as strong as I was fifty years ago. Then I'm firing everyone who does work for me and hiring a bunch of stoner dudes I know nothing about.
  12. Please DFA Dalbec. It is embarrassing to be reminded I have such little baseball knowledge I have been supporting him for a couple of years.
  13. Time to let another organization waste time wondering whether he will ever be able to hit ML pitching.
  14. Wow. That was the worst K I've ever seen!
  15. Well maybe. But since there's no one on the bench who hits righties at a .260 clip or whatever he's doing, leave him out there. Maybe there are some guys who hit RP better than they hit LP, like maybe your .090 hitting Casas, ...
  16. Yeah, maybe he was exposed on that last AB.
  17. Of course, none of those guys was as good, nor as influential, nor as famous as Bonds, Clemens, even Rose (whom I detest). If the HoF means anything, then put the best players in. (Also, maybe stop pretending Judge is chasing the HR record. He's not. He's chasing the YANKEE HR record. Do we really care about that?)
  18. The game-winning triple and HR tonight don't count?
  19. Yeah, I don't know what is fueling the myth that Bogaerts' power has declined, unless the ONLY measure of 'power' is HR.
  20. Well, sort of. He hit .190 in 35 or so games. Casas is .115.
  21. Fantastic! Now if we can only persuade Ohtani to take a home-town discount to play in Boston, or maybe just play for vet's minimum, we'll be fine.
  22. I can't remember his name, but WTF is he doing playing CF?
  23. Perhaps it puts a constraint on how much you can claim 'the ump sucks' that without appearing a jackass. Without the box, fans and announcers would have free rein to vent.
  24. I believe I did hear an announcer (was it Eck drifting off into Eck-land? -- don't think so )-- lamenting just that, the loss of the intricate hand-signal drama occurring on every pitch. (It was not a persuasive argument).
