  1. If you are going bullpen - Joe Kelly also deserves a hat tip ... but let's get these next 6 outs ... I expect a JBJ double switch in either now or next inning
  2. with Martinez getting his last time up, good time to double switch in Bradley
  3. 1981 had a 3-headed MVP iirc
  4. (whispers) David Price - fingers crossed - would be a pretty good choice too.
  5. You know, deciding MVP was actually going to be tough for me - but Steve Pearce might have wrested it away.
  6. Fun fact - at this second, Alex Cora has delivered a below median result for first year Red Sox managers since 2004.
  7. if the bases are loaded and there's a chance to drive another run home - I wouldn't blame Cora for pouncing. Third time through - have to have a quick exit strategy. Price is out there anyway.
  8. he'll probably opt out - but diminished velocity, he's a command guy now - can still be good but less margin for error
  9. It's the 3rd time through the order blues
  10. Nice to see Betts and JD get to see their best selves before October ran out.
  11. command has been great ...
  12. maybe ... 4-5-6 coming up this inning ... I expect Cora to pinch hit for him if the spot comes up
  13. a little - that was a hell of a play he made last night ...
  14. Being down 3-0 would have been crushing - except I lived through 2004 Being down 3-1 seems crushing - except I lived through 2007 (or the 2016 World Series) I expect the Sox to finish the job. But - this has been a very tightly contested series, and a few breaks going the other direction is entirely possible.
  15. There was plenty of time - and he did not look crestfallen in his at-bats. I mean - it is a micro version of how I felt after the Muncy homerun at 3:30 in the morning. Wow, this sucked - but nothing that a game 4 win couldn't fix.
  16. You wear your heart on your sleeve - it's just a mode of expression. That's why I loved ERod's spiking of the glove. When something such high stakes happens, nothing wrong with acting like it's ... you know ... high stakes. Unwritten rules hooey is cutural and get off my lawn bias. I like the players who show how much this matters. I know it matters to me.
  17. right - you don't want a Dwayne Hosey thing happening. What this has been a testament to - more than anything - has been the guys' willingness to take the ball and step outside of their comfort zones to try to win a banner. I have immense respect for Price and Eovaldi, who have been asked to carry loads well outside of the usual rotation starter's SOP. Heck, Eduardo Rodriguez coming from postseasoon LOOGY duty to put together one hell of a tough start in dire circumstances deserves a hat tip. Everybody wants to do what it takes to win - not everybody can adapt to different roles and preparation as easily.
  18. I think this is completely in the hands of the players - if Eovaldi does not feel up to it, he won't be available. But Eovaldi, like Price - has shown a remarkable ability to bounce back. Given what a take and rake team the Dodgers are, it will be hard for Price to get deep in this game even if he is pitching well.
  19. The team just got worn down as the season went on and only Porcello could reliably give innings. The postseason - with the starters all effectively pitching in, things have gotten better. Kelly in particular has been a revelation. (he's probably the best candidate for WS MVP with Eovaldi) If he can command his secondary stuff like that, he really can be dominant.
  20. That was just a great game last night - the comeback, the raw emotion. Baseball should market the crap out of Puig's reaction and ERod's reaction to that homerun. Game 3 was a heartbreaking, morbidly fascinating battle of wills, but Game 4 was just a magnificent baseball game.
  21. He's 32 coming off of a terrible season - how big is his market really?
  22. WE know Cora will go for the throat here if possible - I fully expect Eovaldi or Sale to be available for the right situation ... flags fly forever, and the guys have just been great about stepping out of their comfort zones for this
  23. He's shored up the position defensively. Offensively he has been terrible - but the Sox have had way to work around that. It was a good move. I could see Boston looking at another stopgap for next year (like Brian Dozier maybe) since you have to go in assuming Pedroia is not coming back.
  24. White Sox were effin monsters that year - and given me a fun way to needle Cubs fans in 2016 who whined about how long it's been since Chicago has had a winner.
  25. The game going 750 innings cost Eovaldi a start ... and yet, he might very well be ready to go tonight. Really, one of the best testaments to Cora's communication ability is how the guys have continually openly volunteered to step a little bit out of their routines and comfort zones to help the team. Price and Eovaldi have been particularly noteworthy, but I have no doubt Porcello and Sale will be ready to take the call tonight.
