  1. Nice to see Betts and JD get to see their best selves before October ran out.
  2. command has been great ...
  3. maybe ... 4-5-6 coming up this inning ... I expect Cora to pinch hit for him if the spot comes up
  4. a little - that was a hell of a play he made last night ...
  5. Being down 3-0 would have been crushing - except I lived through 2004 Being down 3-1 seems crushing - except I lived through 2007 (or the 2016 World Series) I expect the Sox to finish the job. But - this has been a very tightly contested series, and a few breaks going the other direction is entirely possible.
  6. There was plenty of time - and he did not look crestfallen in his at-bats. I mean - it is a micro version of how I felt after the Muncy homerun at 3:30 in the morning. Wow, this sucked - but nothing that a game 4 win couldn't fix.
  7. You wear your heart on your sleeve - it's just a mode of expression. That's why I loved ERod's spiking of the glove. When something such high stakes happens, nothing wrong with acting like it's ... you know ... high stakes. Unwritten rules hooey is cutural and get off my lawn bias. I like the players who show how much this matters. I know it matters to me.
  8. right - you don't want a Dwayne Hosey thing happening. What this has been a testament to - more than anything - has been the guys' willingness to take the ball and step outside of their comfort zones to try to win a banner. I have immense respect for Price and Eovaldi, who have been asked to carry loads well outside of the usual rotation starter's SOP. Heck, Eduardo Rodriguez coming from postseasoon LOOGY duty to put together one hell of a tough start in dire circumstances deserves a hat tip. Everybody wants to do what it takes to win - not everybody can adapt to different roles and preparation as easily.
  9. I think this is completely in the hands of the players - if Eovaldi does not feel up to it, he won't be available. But Eovaldi, like Price - has shown a remarkable ability to bounce back. Given what a take and rake team the Dodgers are, it will be hard for Price to get deep in this game even if he is pitching well.
  10. The team just got worn down as the season went on and only Porcello could reliably give innings. The postseason - with the starters all effectively pitching in, things have gotten better. Kelly in particular has been a revelation. (he's probably the best candidate for WS MVP with Eovaldi) If he can command his secondary stuff like that, he really can be dominant.
  11. That was just a great game last night - the comeback, the raw emotion. Baseball should market the crap out of Puig's reaction and ERod's reaction to that homerun. Game 3 was a heartbreaking, morbidly fascinating battle of wills, but Game 4 was just a magnificent baseball game.
  12. He's 32 coming off of a terrible season - how big is his market really?
  13. WE know Cora will go for the throat here if possible - I fully expect Eovaldi or Sale to be available for the right situation ... flags fly forever, and the guys have just been great about stepping out of their comfort zones for this
  14. He's shored up the position defensively. Offensively he has been terrible - but the Sox have had way to work around that. It was a good move. I could see Boston looking at another stopgap for next year (like Brian Dozier maybe) since you have to go in assuming Pedroia is not coming back.
  15. White Sox were effin monsters that year - and given me a fun way to needle Cubs fans in 2016 who whined about how long it's been since Chicago has had a winner.
  16. The game going 750 innings cost Eovaldi a start ... and yet, he might very well be ready to go tonight. Really, one of the best testaments to Cora's communication ability is how the guys have continually openly volunteered to step a little bit out of their routines and comfort zones to help the team. Price and Eovaldi have been particularly noteworthy, but I have no doubt Porcello and Sale will be ready to take the call tonight.
  17. given Puig's splits - it was a calculated risk, but a reasonable one. Rodriguez was terrific - and could very well have escaped trouble if Vasquez just took the forceout and ate the ball. While I could see getting Barnes in to face Puig, it was not an obvious decision.
  18. Wow, did that Game 3 18-inning odyssey change the momentum of the series or what??!!!
  19. The announcing is fine. I like Buck - and he is so much better at this than football (probably because he likes baseball more). His calls in three of the seminal baseball games of all time (the 2004 ALCS Games 4 and 5, the 2011 World Series Game 6) were great. Often he has been saddled with terrible partners. Smoltz is the best of the partners he has had, even if his expertise is narrow.
  20. i think that is possible too - clearly it's one of those two. Amazingly - because of Eovaldi's brilliance, the bullpen should be more or less okay to go tonight. If Rodriguez and/or Pomeranz can get them through 4 innings in good shape we'll be fine.
  21. The Vasquez bunt was fine ... it was a great play. I mean they needed to push a run across and getting to 2nd and 3rd with one out was a good idea. Now Cora made some mistakes to have the team left - Eovaldi pitching a billion innings was not idea, but the time you get to the 16th or something a pitcher was going to have to do this. I think they held Pomeranz back knowing they needed a starter today. Today is clearly a bullpen game - if Pomeranz can get through the lineup once that will be a victory.
  22. Kinsler lost the game for us - but it's nothing that can't be fixed. Remember: 1. The Reds won Game 7 on the road after LOSING the Fisk game 2. The Red Sox STILL had a 3-0 lead halfway through Game 7 after LOSING the Buckner game 3. The Astros won the 2017 world series on the road after LOSING Game 6 4. The Dodgers won the 2018 NLCS on the road after LOSING Game 6 5. The Giants won the 2014 World Series on the road after LOSING Game 6 6. The Cardinals won the 1967 World Series in Boston after LOSING Game 6 Yeah, you have your rout after the Denkinger game (1985), or the Freese game (2011). But even more often, you just have another game to win. This was a heartbreaking game which cost me a lot of sleep. But it was one game in a series we're still leading. If we lose 3 more games it's because the Dodgers outscored us in each of the games - nothing else.
  23. This was not Cora's finest game tactically. His aggression was laudable, but I was surprised they did not directly double switch Leon in when Rodriguez game in ... and allowed them to not use Swihart as the first guy off the bench. It seemed like they could have put off running out of hitters a bit. It was a miracle with such a desperately thin lineup they still extended the game to the 18th.
  24. whether he was tipping his pitches or not, the balance looks so much better ... he just had not idea where his pitches were going
  25. just as I was finished typing "pinch hit for Devers - yuck" ... woo hoo!
