  1. Looks like there could be 22 players. http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/story/_/id/9301536/major-league-baseball-suspend-20-players-including-alex-rodriguez-ryan-braun-part-miami-investigation
  2. It was against a garbage offense. Today should be a better test of his ability.
  3. Well, that wasn't so bad afterall.
  4. This if of course completely false. The Green Monster statistically prevents more home runs than it causes. Just curious, still stand by your prediction that the Red Sox will be a .500 team by the All-Star break.
  5. You wrote a paragraph long post full of insults, that mentioned discussing baseball as an afterthought. There's a pretty consistent pattern, it's as if self-constraint doesn't exist. Everyone has to interject their insults and get the last word. Is it really that hard to say "please discuss baseball?"
  6. Please keep personal insults out of a thread about acting like decent, grown adults.
  7. I'm excited to see Jurikson Profar. I've only seen highlights of him.
  8. Entering a discussion that he wasn't a part of and writing a paragraph of insults about the other poster and how they never discuss baseball does nothing whatsoever to focus the discussion back on baseball. This is part of the problem. Both "factions" of posters here fail to acknowledge how they're at fault for any of this, but flame wars simply don't happen without two willing participants.
  9. Maybe that's the case and it will never get better. It looks like the posters are unable or unwilling to be mature about it, and admins are unwilling to step in. And that's a shame. Just imagine how many knowledgeable baseball posters take one look at the flame wars here and never bother to post.
  10. You're clearly part of the problem as well.
  11. Scratch that, ignore everything I said. He's actually at 72, not the 30 number I saw next to his name. It looks like he likely will be a Hall of Fame caliber player.
  12. I just don't see it happening. He would need to double his production over the next eight years to be a borderline case according to the probability score Bill James came up with.
  13. Those measures take positional standards in to account, it has Pedroia ranked with the same probability as Prince Fielder. They don't take advanced defensive metrics in to account though and neither do most of the voters. I think Pedroia's going to be hurt by that.
  14. Baseball Reference actually has a couple HOF monitors. http://www.baseball-reference.com/leaders/hof_monitor.shtml http://www.baseball-reference.com/leaders/hof_standard.shtml Looking at the first one, I think I'd have to say that he has pretty much no chance.
  15. Please stop. I made a thread asking for an end to the flame wars and now you're provoking one in it.
  16. Pedroia has an outside chance, but it's unlikely. He's currently rated a 22 on his Hall of Fame probability score. The average Hall of Famer is a 50. He's already played eight years, if he plays another eight years he would be 37.
  17. Someone said "I'm glad you're not manager" or "Thank god you're not manager" or something along those lines and it started a 3-4 page flame war between members that were in no way involved in the discussion in the first place. That's insanity.
  18. Yeah, if things continue like this I'm eventually going to stop posting. We're in first place and there's a flame war in pretty much every game thread.
  19. I don't think Verducci knows what he's talking about or put a whole lot of effort in to examining the issue. His evidence that hitters have become too patient is and a decline in runs per game while pitches per at bat is increasing. That hardly suggests a causal relationship between the two. There are a ton of other causes for higher pitch counts, such as pitchers avoiding contact and going for the strikeout. And a decrease in SLG, probably due to better steroids testing, probably has more to do with the decrease in runs than anything else.
  20. Need a win in this game or it could be an ugly series.
  21. It seems like there's a flame war on this forum on a daily basis. I like to joke around, and I'm guilty of jumping in to a couple of these flame wars just for entertainment. But it seem like the level of vitriol and deep dislike people have for each other on this forum has boiled over. I tried to look for some kind of rules, and found this post. What ever happened to that? It's gotten to the point where it's impossible to have a baseball discussion between two posters without a third poster jumping in calling someone names or "protecting" one of the posters. If you ask them to cut it out and discuss baseball, they call you sensitive or accuse you of being on the other person's side. Could people please cut it out? Or could an admin perhaps step in and at the very least, delete posts that make no mention to baseball and have multiple insults or obscenities?
  22. It was a joke. The article obviously wasn't written by a700hitter.
