  1. Oh, incidentally......on some forums posts with green font indicate sarcasm so that its easier for others to see what is intended as a joke and what is not. I think that would be a good idea here too.
  2. Absolutely not ORS. Aceves must be the starter. This is not a matter of opinion, its fact. Anyone who cannot see it is an idiot.
  3. Its best to avoid him, Ortiz, when he posts like that. A few of his posts are worth considering and responding to, but none of the sarcastic personal ones. I just put him on manual ignore when he cannot behave himself.
  4. I think that strategy will work just fine. Thats what Valentine was hired for: to be a boss, not a friend. Francona was a friend and see where it got him last year? Kudos to Bobby V to announce where he stands with regard to Wakefield and Varitek, our two has-been loser MEFIRSTS.
  5. Yes, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. That said, opinions that are supported by facts are more believable than those which are not.
  6. Well then we have agreed all along. Surprise! If the situation changes, if we get another good SP, then we have a better chance. But thats a new reality. Everyone knows what we need. Right now we don't have it. There is really no reason for anyone to be overly optimistic about the current team.
  7. Just out of curiousity, if the current roster is the same as the final roster, what do you think of our chances of competing for a ring?
  8. For the record, I think the team is now headed in the right direction. They have fired an incompetent manager who lost control of the clubhouse and replaced him with a disciplinarian who will fix that problem. They got rid of the GM who put them in the hole they are now in, and they have so far held on to the resources that will probably make them a very real contender next year. Does that sound pessimistic to everyone here-or does it sound like a difference of opinion about long term strategy for success of the team?
  9. I can live with "almost never". Two years ago came close. The number of injuries we had to key players was excessive. It happens sometimes. My arguement is that too many people like to play the injury card too often when there were opportunities to take corrective action that were not utilized. If we had obtained both Harden and Bedard last year chances are we would have at least made the playoffs.
  10. Guess they should have replaced him then. And keep in mind that any SP they replaced him with would have been an improvement. That would have been the right thing to do. I am not buying the "gee, he was injured, and thats why our pitching stunk" excuse. Not when there was a better alternative.
  11. The fact of the matter is that Lackey was THE WORST SP in baseball, so anyone we replaced him with would have been an improvement. Saying that he was hurt, while true, is an excuse. He sucked, and we replaced him with someone better than he performed. We are not going to get through 2012 with no time missed by Beckett/Lester/CB, almost certainly. Using whatever ails them as an excuse for why we failed is BS. If our #4 and 5 were solid, and if Epstein had provided for our minor league with good prospects, like the Rays, we would withstand such injuries much better. I don't think that if you ask the players or manager about injuries they would say its a "reason" the team failed.
  12. For once I agree with you. The Yankees did just vastly improve their SP, most likely (ie as long as Pineda is as good as advertised). Moreover, this is not Cherington's fault. If the owners have not given him the go-ahead to spend money, then he has no money to spend. What do you guys think he ought to do? Dip into his personal savings to write Oswalt a check? If anyone is to "blame", its our billionaire owners. And frankly, I am not sure I would even blame them. This is a year to step back, rebuild our resources, and exercise financial restraint. We sacrifice this year so that we can compete over the next several years. The only competing we will be doing this year is for third place.
  13. You know, usually your posts are logical, though I may not agree with them. But I am not going to allow "injuries" to be an excuse here without comment, unless they are extraordinary. A single injury to Sabathia is not in that category. Sorry. Injuries happen. We have a mediocre pitching staff. Thats just the way it is, with or without CB.
  14. ALL teams have injuries. Next year it could be Beckett; it could be Lester; it could be CC; it could be Pineda. Its insane to say that gee, we could be better if not for injuries. Thats ******** and you know it.
  15. We are only screwed for one year. If we exceed the cap this year we are screwed for many years.
