  1. Farrell has the personnel to win right now, but for whatever reason the players are not performing for him. Its time (past time, actually) to give someone else a chance. I do not think that Henry is going to accept mediocrity this year.
  2. Time to get someone up in the pen
  3. HRs in 6-1 games aren't as worrisome as ones in close games. He is just trying to make sure he doesn't walk anyone. Porcello is still throwing well....#2 SP stuff
  4. Of course he knows. He knew Sandoval lost 20lbs for ST.
  5. Rick Porcello current ERA: 3.63
  6. As Kimmi said, this team is better than a .500 team, at least on paper, IMO. They do need a fire lit under them, and unfortunately for John Farrell, that means that he needs to be shown the door. Sooner rather than later.
  7. They are not really going to pitch to this guy this time....Farrell strikes again.
  8. Hard to win a game when you get one hit
  9. Great time for Pedey's first HR
  10. I would have walked him. But then again, Farrell is a couple of sandwiches short of a full picnic
  11. He never threw him a strike.
  12. Don't you IBB Longoria here??
  13. I agree: to be a #2 or 3 SP he will need to keep the ball down. He can do that; I don't know if he will, nor do you. What stats does a pitcher need to have to be consistent with a #2 SP? If you have Verlander and Scherzer on your team, both aces, and Sanchez whose stats were nearly identical to Porcello's that year, that doesn't mean you don't have #2 stuff. It means the rest of the staff is great too.
  14. Actually, he has only had two starts. He might be every bit as bad this year as he was last year. Its unlikely, but right now, nothing is "clear". The Sox have the personnel to make the playoffs this year.....if they can perform up to their capabilities.
  15. Just to refresh your memory, here is what you wrote: "He has never been anyone's #2. Last year, he pitched like a #6. He can fill a very useful role as a #4 who eats innings, spells the bullpen and puts up a few wins along the way. If everything breaks right for him and he pitches like a #3, I will genuflect, bless myself and give thanks. He is not a #2. He just doesn't have that kind of stuff, never has and that will not change in his 7th full major league season" Doesn't 2014 count? Or don't you think he performed like a #2 that year. I never said he WILL do that this year, but he has done it before and might do it again.
  16. BTW: they better get Ross out of there right now
  17. So let me understand: those statistics are meaningless in comparison to your opinion. Is that correct? Statistics are meaningless in evaluating performance. If thats not true, what stats would be consistent with a #2 SP? You said he "was never" a #2 SP. His performance in 2014 disagrees with you.....statistically. Do you have to throw the ball at 95+ to be a #2? What about Greg Maddux?
  18. In 2014 he had an ERA of 3.43 with an ERA+ of 113 in 204IP. Thats #2 stuff. He can do that again. Will he? Who knows.
  19. Remy said he has thrown a max of 24 pitches in any outing in Pawtucket.
  20. Judge away...but I am going to wait to see about six starts. In his last 8 starts last year, from Aug 1 on, his ERA was 3.14. He has pitched twice this year, both vs Toronto, probably the best offense in the league, and had one bad outing and one good one.
  21. If you make a judgement about how well the SP will do this year you will be doing it based on previous performances over the past few years, not this year. Porcello's ERA over the past three full years was 3.53/3.67/4.13-not aweful. Buchholz is at 2.68/4.01/2.78. ERod was 3.85 last year. Any of them or all of them could perform well this year.
  22. Its really early to make a judgement about our SP rotation. Obviously they have not started out well, but I think there is a good chance that one of Buchholz/Porcello/ERod will pitch like a #2 SP. The others are #3-4 SP, and then there is Kelly and Wright. Lets see where they are after about six starts. Besides, the fact of the matter is that we are not going to go out and pick up another high quality SP. What you see is what you get.
  23. Kelly is the #5 SP. We don't NEED another ace. Owens has been pitching well; he should be next guy up. Kelly should go to the pen once ERod returns anyway.
