  1. Not sure if you guys saw this. Price didn't throw again today, for the third day in a row, because of ongoing stiffness in his elbow: Jason Mastrodonato ✔ @jmastrodonato Farrell is "hopeful but realistic" about Price coming back this season. Make what you will of that.
  2. Do four straight wins against the Mets count?
  3. He has had 68 PAs. Early results are good, but it would be very unusual for a rookie to essentially jump from AA ball on one season and maintain the kind of results Devers has had so far. As someone else here said, its time for the other guys to start producing: Hanley, Bogaerts, JBJ etc.
  4. They are FIRST in the AL in ERA (not by much) and first in SP ERA in the league, second in bullpen ERA. They are THIRD in baseball in ERA overall. Good situation to be in. With the Yankee SP rotation devastated as it is now, it would be an embarrassment not to win the ALE.
  5. At the very least we now know what we have in Reed...and don't have. He should not pitch beyond the sixth inning until he proves he can do the job. And yes, Farrell totally mismanaged the game.
  6. Rusney Castillo is batting .309/.840 in 335 PAs at Pawtucket. He may yet get another chance.
  7. Soon it will be about 80 pages long
  8. Totally correct. They can see the weather map as well as we can, probably better. Why make the fans wait over two hours before calling it-especially since the Yankees already lost
  9. I have no idea what you are talking about. I mean sometimes the forecasters out here are off by as much as three degrees.
  10. San Francisco is on the ocean too and the forecasts there are pretty accurate.
  11. OB said last night that Eck would be back in a game or two.
  12. We should be focused on the fact that we cannot hit the baseball with any regularity-last I checked, 9th in the league in OPS. Thats our weakness-offense. Not sure who is available, but without either an additional bat or an improvement in the performance of the current players I do not see us as being better than either the Yankees or the Royals.
  13. Might have won yesterday's game if Bogaerts was a competent SS too. He has been less than stellar defensively this year (dWAR at -.5) and on the basepaths, he has been a disaster. If he didn't make the error yesterday who knows....maybe Barnes doesn't melt down.
  14. Yes, those are hard to measure. What is not so hard to measure is OPS, WAR etc. We have a problem offensively, and unless a new infusion of talent at 3B, our major problem, is found, we will need to address it in other ways-and adding Avila would be a very good way to deal with it. Our catchers are both bottom third in most offensive categories. I would trade their unmeasurable defensive stats for more offense in a heartbeat.
  15. And getting those factors put together at the right time...ie getting hot during the playoffs.
  16. As I recall, his K to BB ratio was so high that his fall from grace could have been predicted by.....well.....a cave man.
  17. It is possible, but unlikely because MLB no doubt has protected its material with copyright software. If you want to try it, here is an article on how to proceed. Its not going to be easy. https://www.lifewire.com/recording-from-tivo-or-cable-satellite-dvr-1846583
  18. Good call Moon :-). Pom pitched very well.
  19. That is because teams do not go for it on fourth down and 20 very often. Generally, its fourth and very short. If you include ALL situations and forced teams to go for it on fourth down you would lose more games, not win more.
  20. That I can buy....this was a matter to be discussed in the clubhouse, privately.
  21. You're right; its never happened before, and it won't happen again. What you are writing is factually incorrect. The batter doesn't have to be killed to make beanings dangerous, and this one was intentional to a degree. But before you spout off again, read this article: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1304213-mlbs-worst-hit-by-pitch-moments-ever As I wrote elsewhere, accidents happen. Pitches do get away from guys. The difference between this situation and all the others is that Barnes was throwing at Machado-not at his head-but at him nonetheless. I have no problem with him doing that, but he has to miss LOW, not high. He should have gotten at least 10 games for his mistake. There should be ZERO tolerance for that crap, and the penalties should be heavy, not just four games. If it were up to you I suppose we could just wait until the next guy gets maimed or killed in that situation. A clear message should be sent to MLB pitchers: you miss high there, and you pay the price.
  22. I don't blame Pedroia. Before that pitch was made Pedey said he wasn't holding anything against Machado...."thats baseball" I believe is what he said. Then his team mate endangered the career and the life of another player. Just as I would not support a friend who was involved in a near accident because he elected to drive drunk, Pedroia is appropriately not supporting Barnes for what he did. That is real leadership, regardless of his comments from another time.
  23. You can google it as well as I can. Tony C comes to mind. I can understand a player ACCIDENTALLY getting hit in the head, but not as a result of a pitcher intentionally throwing at him and missing location. You just cannot do that. Its like drunk driving. Its asking for trouble.
  24. As I wrote many times, I think that he was either told to throw at Machado or at the very least he was given the green light by Farrell-just not at his head. He missed. You cannot miss there. Ever. Or you should pay very dearly. What would have happened if it turned out differently, if he actually hit Machado and ended his career? Is four games enough now?
  25. I don't think its relevant, but I am quite sure Farrell had something to do with throwing at Machado. Just not at his head. Barnes made a mistake you cannot make. Throw it in the dirt behind him if you have to. That would have gotten the message across much more effectively.
