  1. What injury? He is no more banged up than other guys this time of year. He just stinks. Bad year. Like a lot of other guys.
  2. Nope. As I said, with Betts and Pedroia in the lineup its a different team than with Young and Marrerro. Add in Hanley, who is pretty useless nowadays, instead of Moreland, and you can see that we could score some runs that we now cannot.
  3. Happ faced an AAA lineup tonight. No credit. Even some of the first string guys, like Hanley and Young (even though he had two hits tonight) are basically useless. Add in Leon and Marrerro, and JBJ with his 0 for 28 and we never really had a chance unless Sale threw a shutout.
  4. Facetious I presume. Its stupidity. Vasquez did the same thing, trying to steal 3B with nobody out.
  5. Why not Marrerro? Dumb.
  6. The single biggest problem is that we are dead last in the league in HRs. IMO.
  7. I would be thinking of him as a starter, replacing the guy who has more losses this year than any other pitcher in the league.
  8. If we do not win the ALE there is only going to be one game.
  9. Yeah, Moreland usually gets that ball. That said, Devers has become a real liability at 3B. Last night his error nearly threw the game away, one that we had won. I think that its time for Farrell to consider replacing him for defensive purposes in late close games before he actually costs us a game.
  10. First, we lost the season series to the Yankees. That always sucks. Statistically, they are the better team, as much as I hate to admit it. They are just .08 RPG behind us in team ERA and they have scored 66 more runs than we have this year: thats about .44 RPG more than us. Their OPS is better (.779 v .740). They are a much more dangerous offensive team and nearly as effective at pitching. I would not think that we would be favored if a one game playoff were played in the Bronx to determine the ALE winner. So winning the ALE outright is essential.
  11. The pitching overall has been championship caliber all year long. As everyone here knows, its the hitting that needs to pick it up if we are going to make a deep run into the playoffs. Somehow guys like Bogaerts and Ramirez are going to have to do some things they haven't done since June.
  12. I don't think that Bogaerts should be playing, let alone leading off. Since July 1 his BA is .208, his OBP is .289, and his OPS is just under .600. Why start off a game with what amounts to nearly an automatic out?
  13. But if they tie, don't we then become the WC? Not a good option.
  14. One of the posters on another forum suggested that Porcello should start game 2 (assuming we win the ALE) because his road performance (ERA: 3.43; OPSa: .770) is so much better than his home performance (ERA: 5.30; OPSa: .852).
  15. Porcello threw a gem yesterday, no doubt. In fact, he really hasn't been that horrible this year, certainly not bad enough to lose 17 games. As you pointed out his run support has been terrible. His ERA this year is 4.46, just .20 above his career number, and his ERA+ is 102, just above average for pitchers. If somehow he can find himself and be consistent he would be the link we really need to make a decent playoff run.
  16. Salty is "trying to do too much" with his broadcast ability.
  17. Thats not what he said. He said that he sees "dead people"......meaning the Sox lineup.
  18. Four hits last night; on base six times. Ten pitch at bat today. Maybe he has turned the corner.....or not.
  19. It remains to be seen how effective he will be.
  20. Jacko said that small ligament tears can heal, but thats a little misleading. Ligaments have a very poor blood supply, so no new ligament tissue is formed, unlike, for example, bones. Ligaments "heal" with scar tissue (" In fact, evidence suggests that the injured ligament structure is replaced with tissue that is grossly, histologically, biochemically, and biomechanically similar to scar tissue.") Scar tissue does not function like a ligament, so its more that the player will need to adapt to the new biomechanics caused by the injury "healing" in the absence of replacing the ligament with surgery. Although scar tissue and ligaments are both made mostly of collagen ligaments are composed of type 1 collagen, which is more densely packed, stiffer, and stronger than the type 3 collagen in scar tissue. Bottom line: ligaments "heal" but there is generally a persistent change in joint load bearing ability due to scarring. What is going on with Price is a bit mysterious. Clearly we are not being told the whole story.
  21. Can he be any worse than Porcello?
  22. I would have had an issue with it anyway. As Remy and Eck pointed out many times during the game today, Porcello was leaving fat pitches in the middle of the plate that the Rays generally missed. One of Porcello's many problems this year is the HR ball, and today the Rays just missed pitches. He was very lucky to have allowed just the two runs. He simply hasn't been pitching well, and there is no time left to wait for him to get it together. I would give Brian Johnson a shot at his job right now.
  23. 17 He has a good chance to lose 20 games. And thats hard to do. I don't know why he still has a job.
  24. Porcello is actually throwing poorly...the Rays are just missing the meatballs. Until now.
