  1. I think Leon has caught him in AAA My guess is he will take over
  2. Looks like Blake Swihart will probably be out for another month with a very bad ankle sprain...hanny is out too...team recalled Leon and Castillo
  3. Personally im thrilled they didnt waste prospects on Shields...I think if DD does get pitching it will be a bigger deal if one arises...also DD isnt known for early trades during the season. He will wait until closer to the deadline when some teams have decided to wave the white flag, or maybe an injury will cause a team to have a need...swihart and Travis injuries certainly hurt seeing they were two names that would have been perfect in a trade...
  4. "Right. It's not even close to ignorant." -Moon It was beyond ignorant to think it compares to your youth baseball and your beer league softball....you said it, not me...
  5. I also said mentally as well as physically. Are you friggin kidding me Moon??? Please dont compare your youth and beer league to a 40+ yo who has been training harder than you ever have for the last 20+ years at the highest level and remain one of the best. Add that to the travel, being away from family. Offseason working out as well as in season to stay in shape, batting cages, video tape, charity events, appearences, Spring training, etc., .it ALL takes a toll on your body after 20 years of it. Trying to maintain injuries...If you You think he does nothing but sit on a bench and hit a ball and play 1b every so often then you really have zero idea what these guys do from a young age. OH, LOL if you actually Think your local beer league softball and youth baseball compare to his career in any remote way shape or form then you need a serious wakeup call... Not trying to sound mean or dispresectful, but i think that comment is kinda ignorant.
  6. worth it to us, not to him. Hes plenty rich and I doubt hes money motivated anymore. Just seeing him, last night tells me hes going to be having a few extra days off this year. Papi is playing with a decent amount of pain this year. To selfishly want him back is normal for the fans, and understandably. But as a man, I dont want to see the Boston hero limp around next year in more pain than hes already in just to make us happy...hes given me, and every Sox fan plenty of great moments, and im sure a few more this year before he walks away. Papi has had a HOF career. i Dont think you will even get close to his production hes having this year, next year. Sox fans need to just let this guy ride into the sunset at the end of the year and move on. Yes hes a DH..but really? you cant be serious,,,obviously you have no idea about how hard a MLB season grind is. Physically and mentally... Whether your just A DH or not...hes also got a family and a life outside baseball that deserves his attention. David will still be around the organization and in the community helping out like all the other former Sox players and legends. Hes earned this retirement after the season.
  7. My point was that if there was a worthy pitcher available then my choice would be to let go of swihart for that pitcher. I doubt anyone has lost sight of how talented he is. In fact, to see how well hes done in LF just speaks to his athleticism and to just how much value he has...
  8. I dont want to. Id rather package swihart with a couple prospects not named benintendi moncada or espinoza
  9. Its not going to specifically help one team...it will have the same zone for EVERY team. Yea, the Sox have had a LOT of bad umpiring this year, thats inarguable. I just want the same strike zone so every pitcher and batter knows what a strike is... Its also very true to this day that umpires make personal calls...They are human, and human nature is what it is... You dont think Hanley standing at the plate for 10 seconds after a bad call wont get him another outside strike called on him? If not, them i dont know what else to say. Some umpires are very sensitive and take s*** personally...instead of letting these men compete at the highest level they are too quick to jump back at a player...When competing at this level you have to expect higher emotions for these guys...some umpires forget that.
  10. Because Mookie, like Xander, have little to no holes in their swing...they both cover the outside part of the plate and can clear out an inside fb as well...its hard to get guys loke these two out...so much talent.
  11. Her name is Emerson
  12. Looks like my boy Vaz is still getting his accuracy back, as expected. To me, it looks like his pop time and velocity are good. Maybe not 100%, but very close. The accuracy is always the last to come back. The good news is he would have beat most if not all the runners attempting to steal. The ball was there in plenty of time, just not where it should be...that will come. Swihart has plenty of value. GMs know the situation and Im sure they all value him very highly still. Sox did what they needed to do for the team. It was the best move To put him in LF right now IMO... My guess is he will be involved in a trade for pitching.
  13. The bullpen started screwing up when Farrell really misused them in that game where Kimbrel threw 40 pitches and the day after. Yes, its the pitchers who arent executing, but it doesnt help how the manager uses them. To me, he wears them out and their performance suffers. Taz is at 92...thats 2-3MPH below his norm...is he tired! Hurt?
  14. See, this makes way more sense to me than Buch in The pen...Buch should be phantom DL'd and let Kelly go back to the pen where hes had experience. That, and hes got 98. His offspeed stuff will play up MUCH better ( theoretically) and should be able to air it out for an inning or two.
  15. Slugging wont work come playoff time...pitching, pitching, pitching
  16. His feet/ankles are a BIG problem. He has said that he experiences a good amount of pain and has already had to take days off because of it. He will be 41 and the grind has gotten to be too much. I imagine hes just emptying the tank this year. Id love for him to come back for one more..who wouldnt in Boston? I just think his body is having a hard time keeping up these days...
  17. I meant it in a sense that they have a large payroll and have shown a willingness to go over for a year or two if need be. I didnt mean it like it was a complete non issue. Of course they cant go to 250- 300m...and they also have to make moves to allow it to happen...i get all that. They are not the Rays is my point
  18. Unfortunately I dont agree. I think out of Bogey betts and JBJ, JBJ is the first to go if another team demands one. Not because hes the worst one, just that I feel the sox value the other two Bs first. Swihart is also another candidate to be in a trade. I would watch for either of those two, or both depending whos coming back, to go if we were to acquire a TOTR young controlled starter...and MiLB prospects. I hope we could do it without having to give up one of our kids on the mlb roster, but I doubt we can get what we want without doing just that. If we go get a rich hill type then i dont think we have to worry about it.
  19. Have you heard Joes spoken word country cd? Put it this way...its a good thing hes not as bad at umpiring as he is as a "musician".
  20. We could realistically sign Bogey this offseason and Mookie next for about the same amout. Both are cornerstone pieces on a team. IMHO DD will be looking to rid himself of some bad deals and players that are clearly not performing over the next year or two to make this happen..they need to do this to ensure this team has a solid future. Money is obviously not an issue.
  21. As long as Craig stays in AAA i dont believe his salary counts against the cap. Price is the one i really feel comfortable with.Porcello is a so,id 3 IMO, maybe a 2 on some days. Wright is having an RA Dickey CYA winning type year. Hes a flutter baller though, so I cant feel 100% about him lasting all year. Possible? Sure, but I wont hang my hat on it just because of the inconsistency of the pitch... No on shields. No on 30m for verlander. Young and controlled is what Id like, and would be willing to let popular names go for the right guy. Its still early. In about another month the available names will start to be known. DD will be right in the thick of things. With Buchholz being one of the top names in this years FA, Id say were best to go shopping on the trade market
  22. I remember all four of my first boston games First sox game was in 1980 and I was 10. I remember there being a lot of open seats on a weekday night vs Texas. We were sitting right by canvas alley, front row. I went with a buddy of mine and my dad. Had to beg him for weeks just to get tix one time. Dont remember much about the game but walking into Fenway was amazing for me the first time. Me and my buddy wondered how cool it would bento watch a game on top of the big green wall. Well, now its possible. I remember the greenest grass ive ever seen and how big the players were. Good times. Firts pats game was the 3-0 snow plow game vs Miami. We drove up with my uncle and two of his buddys. I think i knew every rolling stones song after that because he kept looping the 8-track (yes, i said 8-track) in the car the whole 1.5 hr drive there and back. Great game. We were way up top. Bruin game i remember the most. Old Gahden. Section 104 top corner. Bs vs Nordiques. Bs win 7-2 and there was a Bench clearing brawl. John Wensink, peter Mcnabb , terry O, stan jonathan, etc...went with two of my buddys and my dad. He was a bigger Bs fan so i went to a few games when I was young. Celtics game was in 1981 with my dad and another basball coach friend of his who has season tix first row first balcony in the corner at the old Gahdan. Dont remember who it was against, but we won and had a great time..Im Not a huge BB Fan, so it was my one and only Cs game.
  23. Seriously, were looking at two 20m+deals at around 10 years for these two (betts/bogey) And it would be well worth it IMHO.
  24. Were def gonna NEED another starter...Buch=Bullpen Kelly=awful Porcello=solid 3 ERod=Needs to bulid stamina and velocity. Left ball up in zone starting in the fourth and was VERY lucky on a lot of pitches. Also lots of help from D. Not fully sold on him yet either. Wright=stellar year so far, but hes still a flutter baller. RA Dickey had a similar CYA winning year though...Price=Ace, but no success in playoffs yet. We will need three solid starters. Right now I see Price and Wright as the top two. I like what Porcello is doing this year, but still would like an upgrade for the playoffs and the future. I think we can say goodbye to either JBJ or Swihart...
  25. The ump who "stared down" papi when he was ejected ( name?), is known for almost inciting an arguement. With that said, whoever was the umpire last night seemed to have extended that game quite a bit with his miniscule K zone. There was ZERO given on the black, or close, it seemed for BOTH teams...over the last few games ( well, since Papis ejection) I can honestly say that I havent seen much worse umpiring in years. Ive also watched a number of other games and can say that the umpiring this year is probably at a low as far as accuracy. Id LOVE to know what each umpires chart reads after a game.and Id also LOVE if the league would enforce a universal K zone for once in the history of the game. Some umpires "personal" K zones are ridiculous. Why should a pitcher have to adjust to the umpire? Kinda backwards, no?
