  1. Not mine...balance of both...a manager that doesnt manage his pitching staff well (Farrell) can really mess things up.
  2. You know from the bdc forum that ive never been a big Farrell fan. but luckily we dont have to really bash the guy. Just give it time and he will make another head-scratching move, or non move....
  3. Im sure ill get crap for this but... The other night when Barnes was painting 98 on the outside corner to a power LHH and handled him nicely, why in Gods name do you lift him? I understand the friggin numbers and all that, but Barnes was ON. It was a dumb move to lift him IMHO and I said it as it was happening. Even said I didnt care if Abad did good because it wasnt neccessary. They made up their minds before the game and no matter what was going on Abad was coming in. Farrell said so after the game. Why waste Barnes then? Just bring in Abad from the start...this whole L on L or R on R thing is way overblown. Barnes was a starter not 2 years ago. Pretty sure he can get LHH out too, as he did with Smith before Cano took the Lh specialist out of the park...ugh. Farrell just LOVES all the numbers, a little too much IMO. Need more of a balance. To me, He just doesnt seem to have a great "feel" for in game managing. especially pitchers. just one mans opinion.
  4. Promoting prospects mostly involves DD Hazen and The scouting dept...Farrell may have some say but he works with what hes given. I think DDs approach is much different than that of Ben or Theo in the past. Hazen is also GM now and hes been at the head of the scouting dept in Boston for a while now. Im sure he has more of a say this time around.
  5. Was thinking the same thing...I think one is speaking of final results and one is talking excitement and the possible start of a turnaround for the organization with the infusion of a young player (Nomar)
  6. some may be, but they shouldnt count on it right away. They should expect a learning curve and adjustment period. It may not be much of one, but its still very possible.... I really like the kid and think he will shine. Maybe not right off the bat, but when all is said and done hes going to be a solid MLB ballplayer..
  7. Probably a bit of both as they do usually try to do this on the road, but just happened that they didnt get someone at the dealine while on a roadtrip...
  8. Agree..i have no idea how he will do in Boston. Im going on what ive seen on the internet and live and things ive heard from the people that matter so far. Im expecting an adjustment period, but im also putting my money on the kid being successful and quite capable of making the needed adjustments.
  9. 948 1.011 976 And since his small 5 game adjustment period in AA 920 OPS Seems pretty dominant to me... K/BB ratios are outstanding Has great Mental makeup and baseball smarts Ill stick with saying hes been dominant in the minors so far
  10. And once again, with the lack of production and poor defense in LF what difference is a possible adjustment period going to make if much at all? We have one of the best offenses in the game and shoild be able to handle it....
  11. I like that they try to bring the kids up on the road...sucks its the WC, but less pressure than Boston
  12. Not sure, but it really doesnt matter in this situation? These moves are on a case by case basis. My guess is they would put him in AAA if there wasnt a need and bring him up in sept. But since our LF is a mess theres no reason Benni shouldnt get a shot with the way hes moved through the minors, as a LOT of scouts predicted.
  13. Same with Ells...had some bad reads when he first came up, but his speed and athletecism made up for it...he eventually adjusted and had better reads, which im guessing the same for Benni...
  14. Ok, sorry if i was sounding defensive...sometimes i get in that mode when on these boards. I understand all the possibilities. Thruth is we wont know until he gets here and has played a number of games. We need to see how well and quickly he can adjust...i really dont think theres a whole lot left for him in the minors. Maybe some, but with the need this team has and the poor overall performance coming from LF, i dont see much of a negative bringing him up right now. Mental makeup is solid from all reports. Hard worker, lots of time in the film room. Hes a ballplayer, as they say. None of us can predict how a prospect will do. But from what we have to go on regarding Benni, Im ok with this.
  15. Who has said theres not a difference? Because ive read nothing like that.
  16. Unfortunately your going to have those types in Boston. Ill stick to what i said about a month ago when I started this thread...I thought hed be up before September uf there was a need. and I thought once he came up, he would be here for good. I still stand by that. Because i believe in the kid, doesnt mean im not realistic about the possibilities, good or bad. I just see more good with Benni than other prospects.
  17. If your referring to me then please exclude me from that...Im VERY familiar with the minors and how things work. I understand theres a difference in AA to MLB. I also understand that Every player is different. Im saying I think Benni will be ok from what ive seen and read. Apparently so do the red sox..theres not much of a differnce from AA to AAA...obviously theres a bigger difference from AA to MLB...theres a need and since Benni has pretty much dominated minor leagues so far I dont see a need to hang out in AAA. Give him a shot and lets see what happens...an adjustment period is likely. How long it takes him to adjust will determine if he needs more time or not.
  18. Theres PLENTY of offspeed stuff, and really good stuff in AA...hes got solid pitch recognition. His k/BB is outstanding. I know its on a case to case basis and I believe this is the right move for their situation. If they had a reliable LFer then my guess is we wouldnt see Benni until sept...
  19. Your over reacting dude...yes, he has dominated minor league ball to this point. Most scout will tell you if you can handle AA pitching, theres not a big jump from that to AAA... Since his minor adjustmentnperiod in AA hes had a 920OPS...thats pretty dominant...He was a college standout and most scouts saw a quick climb to MLB. This move is not surprising to a lot of people. Sure he may have a few game adjustment period like a lot of prospects. No big deal. Hes certainly got the mental makeup, from all accounts, to handle it. We have Holt missing balls in LF as well as Martinez. Then theres brentz...do you really think a small adjustment period from Benni is going to be that harmful to the current LF lineup? Yeah, I didnt think so.
  20. I could see a trade with Pablo for another bad deal once he proves hes healthy. Castillo and Craig are sunk costs at this Point. At least pablo has a history of post season success and at least above average regular season numbers. I dont see them moving Hanley. Actually I hope to see him at 1b next year and do a little DHing... And now, Let the Andrew Benintendi MLB career begin!!!!
  21. Yes he has before the games.
  22. Well the professionals who are around him every single day say hes ready now and believe he can handle it...nothing wrong with challenging a 21-22 yo who is dominating minor league baseball, especially when there is a direct need on the big club. There may be an adjustment period so i hope some fans allow for that possibility
  23. Well, they have had a ton of injuries in LF and now have Brentz, Holt, and Martinez platooing out there...nothing much on the trade market so yeah, i guess they were a little desperate. Just like when they switched Betts to CF and called him up. He may go through an adjustment time of a few games, but I, like the Sox staff, think hes got that certain something and feel he can handle it and that he is indeed ready for the show....
