  1. I went with a 10-12 at a bit of a lesser rate and more guarenteed year. Take them until they are 36. Maybe an opt out after 6-7? 30m per for them is hard to swallow. I dont think it will come to that with these two...i could be wrong, but I believe the more years will allow for more in the 20m w/incentives range, not 30m...thats top starter money.
  2. Hey Slash:cool: What do you think about 10-12 year deals at 200m? Obviously thats just basic. Structure of the deals is yet to be determined. Just giving a basis for discussion.
  3. Check ur pms...make sure i did it correctly
  4. Im guessing they would take Swihart as the main piece because they have nothing at catcher worth talking about now, or in the future. Swihart would be a big catch for them for the future. Maybe add Kopech and a guy in the15-20 range or a Pat Light type. Needs work but can throw 100. We would have that extra pen arm and starter. Hate losing Swi, but I have a feeling hes the most expendable on this team out of the young players.
  5. YOTN, My thread "Locking up the future" was specifically about Sox young players and locking them up. There was no need to put it in a thread that is meant for overblown FA deals around MLB... I Wanted to talk about guys like Betts, bogey, vaz, swihart. moncada..the RED SOX PROSPECTS that are making a name for themselves in Boston and the future ones in my thread. Not friggin pujols, Harper, ARod and Manny. Thats what THIS thread is for. Is it remotely related? Maybe a little. But the main context is about young Sox players that could be our future and securing that future, not 32 yo players making 30m per and whos contract was good or bad... I understand the whole "clutter" thing and agree, but this, IMHO, is a bit much....
  6. If the Sox resigned Lester, even at 25m per, they would have got a bargain IMO. Why? Because in his 6 years under control he was far and above worth much more than what he was paid. If you look at it like that, and it would have to be your own guy, then Lester wouldve been a great deal for the Sox. Manny was well worth it. Not too many are worth it if you didnt draft them. If you draft them and get great production the first six years, and you can afford it. then that team had better offer a solid deal IMO. The Lester offer was a friggin joke, and IMO, they should have just not offered anything.
  7. Ive mentioned on another forum about locking up Xander Bogaerts on a 12 year 200M deal, butying out arb years amd locking him up til hes 36. Betts as well, but I take care of Xander first since hes probably the better all around player and probably will be. I know he has BorASS for his agent, but something tells me if he was offered a deal like that he would sign it. Thoughts on this or any other player?
  8. I believe someone had to go down for Buch right now. That, and Hembree, i believe, just pitched a bunch of innings and would be unavailable anyway. He also has options. Bur really, Im over Buchholz too... The bottom line is half of these moves in the pen wouldnt have to be made if it was managed better. Farrell has had 3 of his big 4 unavailable one game, not used hot guys and chooses to be OCD with L on L machups, uses Taz in Toronto instead of leaving a hot Barnes in since he only got one out the prior inning. Has to use Kimbrel in a situation he has NEVER been in as a closer and overused him. For a former pitching coach I really dont like the way he uses them as a Manager. Especially bullpen arms.
  9. Thats what Im saying, so it HAS to be a phantom injury.
  10. Hope all goes well...all the best to JBj and family. Hurry back!!! Rusney is terrible. So I guess this means Mookie back in CF for a bit and Rusney in LF with Swihart in RF? Or Rusney in RF?
  11. Yeah man i saw the play...just running after a guy in a rundown. Terrible news for Sam. He should be back at full speed by next spring. Tough luck for sure.
  12. I never watched this. Thanks babe. https://youtu.be/wDP41oh7nN0 I wish they did something like this for baseball
  13. I was born in 70. I dont recall that. Might have been too young to remember. Ill go look it up. Thanks.
  14. Id love to see how a group of pitcher the last 20-30 years fair against some of the greatest hitters of an earlier era. Williams, Ruth, Dimaggio, etc. vs Pedro, R Johnson, Maddox, etc. in their hey day...
  15. Hey DC! Good to see you made it here. Your views are always welcome. I enjoy Your random posts as well as the not so random ones
  16. HEY JETE!!! Good to see you over here bud! Happy belated memorial day!
  17. He looked pretty damn good to me. Maybe being pissed off about it works for him. Maybe getting out of a daily routine as a starter will help him in some way. Personally, I think a good clay in the rotation may be needed come august. Leaving him in the pen too long wont allow him to be as effective as a starter if hes needed. Maybe going down to AAA to work things out for a few starts is best at this point. A phantom injury is needed or i believe he will have to go through waivers first...
  18. Mal, The Sox didnt have a guarenteed spot in the rotation for him. He was offered a guarenteed spot in Oaklands rotation and he took it, it wasnt that they didnt want him.
  19. If they trade Swihart it BETTER be for something better than Hill. Yes, hes having a good year, but hes mid 30s and who knows if it will last. Meanwhile, Blake has 4-5more years of control. If he is traded, its should be in a package for a frontline starter under control IMHO
  20. Yeah. Thats pretty much what theyve been sending out there. Its a solid lineup from top to bottom. Not really an easy out 1-9
  21. Agree about possibly kelly in the pen as well. Have to wait and see how Kelly and ERod do. If there is a solid TOTR guy out there that makes sense now, and the future, i think DD will make a move. If it upgrades the rotation then I think we will at least be involved. I wish we could store better depth in the minors. Unfortunately thats why most of these guys are depth and are available to wait in AAA for their shot. Spending all that $$ on two relievers and an Ace was a good offseason. My guess is DD wanted to see what he had this year before making another big move and unload some prospects and add more salary. My guess is everyone saw a 1-2 of Price and Erod with Porcello Buch and Kelly. If healthy, thats a good rotation compared to the rest of the division. ERod got hurt, Kelly got hurt, Smith had TJS, and Buch looks lost. I dont think anyone would have thought that was going to happen. I also dont think they thought Owens, Johnson, Elias, and whoever else, would all be this bad. Theres the arguement that Buch should have been sent to AAA on a phantom injury and try to get straight like Kelly and Porcello did last year. The reason is because we are going to need depth and you got a guy, if hes right, can run off 10-12 games of ace type pitching. it looked pretty good going into ST on offense and pitching. I think they did a great job taking care of the staff. Obviously some question marks like everyone else, but I was good with Price and Erod at the top and figured at least one out of the other three would b good. That turned out to be porcello with wright being a nice surprise. For the pen Im really hoping Barnes continues to improve so he can take over that 6-7 and hold the other team. I guess the bottom line is they have to let some things play out over the next month or so and then see where they, and other teams are at. With DD im really not worried about acquiring a player if needed. My worry is who we will have to give up.
  22. Buch is so heady about routines and having a set pattern of doing things, that going to the pen and really not having a set pattern might be good for him. Just learn to warn up a little quicker. But his "stuff" looked good and played up well. I know its only one start, but like UN said...imagine if what most, including me, thought about Buchholz going to the pen, turned into just the opposite. Buch having an important role in late inning, high leverage situations, and being successful...
  23. Hey JB! Im sure real soon YOTN and everyone here will start seeing his pattern and realize why he was permanently banned on BDC.
  24. Totally understand why you did. I think were gonna end up having to go the trade market though unless kelly and/or ERod step up. If one or both do that, then i think we should get another pen arm for the playoffs. We really need both a starter and a reliever, but right now we need a reliever. A starter can wait for the time being.
  25. Kelly and ERod will get a few starts each i imagine. Maybe Elias will get a start. Owens had his chance and really doesnt look that great. Johnson has Anxiety and is not pitching. So figure that will take us into July. At that point we should know what we have and whats available and for what price. If everyone blows, then DD will have to get creative outside the organization. Not sure, but I believe they have 27 yo Wilkerson in AAA as well. At this point, they may DFA someone and put him on the 40-man (I dont think hes on it already) Thats probably a long shot though. Impressed? Not necessarily..but I think you have to start looking at the high leverage situations hes been in recently, and has been successful. Its worth taking note. His secondary stuff has started to play up better since he now has a lot more seperation from his FB as a reliever. Ive seen a change the last few games. I think the reliever role is starting to click with him and the adjustment time maybe over. He has the potential to have a lot of success in the pen.
