  1. Im sensing sarcasm here. Im pretty good at detecting it. Seriously though, I agree with Cheringtons low balling things until its the right time but I believe in keeping what has worked in the past too and Lester definitely worked.
  2. Remember we beat these guys 14-1? Boy were we cocky.
  3. I understand the strategy of not spending money and building within the farm system. I dont understand getting rid of Lester. Hes got a long track record of success with us and he wants to be with us. My thinking is that theyre going to try and deal Lester to a desperate team that are willing to give alot more than hes worth. Also if this rebuilding process is going to start from scratch, it may be a waste to keep Lester knowing that his best years will be spent on a team waiting for their prospects to get it together.
  4. Cant argue with that. I wish someone on this team would slap balls like a bitch!
  5. Bad teams dont win WS. We're a good team that are seriously, seriously underperforming. Ellsbury doesnt account for the massive dropoff.
  6. Buchholz did well in the beginning of last season but wasnt a big contributor in the end. I wish they would have done to him what they did to AJ Pierzynski, which seemed to work, get rid of him and give a chance to the new guys and the effective WS pitchers. Lackey and Peavey had some rough games but when they saw that the team was coming together they got their s*** together. But then comes Buchholz and inexplicably gives up three runs right after Big Papi hits a three run homer. Just going completely against the momentum we had built up.
  7. Yeah but I dont trust a guy who doesnt do good when it counts. Doing good now means nothing, theres nothing to play for. I am seriously loathing Buch because more than anyone, he stopped the momentum we had going last week. And likewise is the same reason I want to keep Lester because he knows how to do it on the big stage. Maybe Buch needs a whole season to get over his injury. Its the only reason I can think of as to why hes still pitching for us.
  8. Thanks for the clips. They reinforced my opinion. I think when Archer struck out Ortiz, before the HR, he said something getting the ball back.
  9. I understand why they got rid of Salty and got AJP, because of our prospects but I liked Salty. He wasnt a gifted catcher defensively, esp his arm but he had a good attitude, improved every year, had a good bat for a catcher and youre probably right considering the two seasons, he was also a good game caller.
  10. Im in the be-patient camp. Yes this is total suck but that doesnt mean we're not on the right track. All this give me results yesterday attitude could be more harm than good. At least lets see it out, then we'll know. And Im not saying dont make any moves but to give up on XB and JBJ is definitely not the right move. Now Buchholz is another story.
  11. Im not sure how unique it is but its more unique than youre making it sound. What I left out though is that the non-prospect players they brought in, along side being smart, tough and a good locker room presence is that they werent signed to long term contracts. The Yankees certainly dont live by that philosophy, their philosophy is who's the best player in the league?
  12. Of building a team through the farm system vs free agency and trades. But also mixing with the young players, veterans who bring alot of intangibles, smarts, toughness and a good locker room presence. Other things are to build a team who have hitters that have high OBP, pitchers who throw strikes, have a good D (at least where it counts the most, SS and CF) and a good bullpen.
  13. I agree with you about how bad it is for a team to be run by PR and also agree with Cheringtons general managing philosophy and hope he doesnt become swayed to easily by the PR because of this terrible season, but he should make an exception for Lester, barring him being too outrageous. I believe in keeping it in the family if it has worked so far and Lester isnt over 30, he IS 30 so wouldnt break his rule.
  14. f***in' Rays. We just had to play the Rays after our latest meltdown. Ill be interested in how we react.
  15. Its just like the other win streak, we hit a bump in the road and all is lost.
  16. To hell with marketing. Id rather do it right and think farther ahead than just this year. Youd think a WS championship would buy a little more time to see a rebuilding project through than a half a season.
  17. Yeah, this is dispicable considering us winning lately. Just giving it away.
  18. Heres a couple of stats that are telling. Hes #1 in both doubles and runs. That means he not only is instantly in scoring position but avoids the double play too. This is probably a direct reason why hes also tops in runs scored. Hes also second in RBI's.
  19. Agreed, though combining it with last years power drought, there may be a trend. Having said that, even if his hand and wrist are still bothering him, hes got alot of moxie and still gets the job done.
  20. Yeah baby! I always thought as JBJ goes so goes the Sox because he took Els's spot. Hope he keeps it up.
  21. We need to trade Papi and Pedroia!!! Theyre dead weight!!!
  22. I hope he remembers the fans want him and doesnt feel too disrespected.
  23. At this juncture, if we dont make the playoffs we didnt deserve it. I dont want to mortgage the future to make the playoffs. So yes lets do it w/the kids because if it works, and by that I mean become respectable, not winning the WS or even making the playoffs, our future will look bright. Right now winning is like making the playoffs to me. However, if we do make the playoffs with what we got, wed be scary SOB's.
  24. Im not even sure about this. If we start doing well I wouldnt know who to replace. The most obvious choices are JBJ, Drew, Ross and the Gomes/Nava platoon, but I think the pitchers are comfortable with a good defense with Drew, JBJ, and Ross/Vasquez, Nava is starting to be his old self and if Gomes starts heating up (yesterday was a good start), then Id be uncomfortable tinkering with what is working.
