    I agree for the most part with what you are saying. In the same situation, I would do exactly the same thing that he is doing. I do think that although it is early, many people are likely wondering how healthy and how good does he have to be to resume paling second base for us. Obviously it is a waiting game but personally if Chavis continues to perform adequately at second base, I'm not sure that I would move him until I was completely satisfied the current edition of Pedroia will be able to help this team. I'm thinking that there is a fear that when declared healthy he is going to be popped right back in that lineup and it will be business as usual. Everybody knows what he has done and what he has been capable of doing. The problem is that it has been a long time now since he has done much of anything.

    i very much agree with you and sadly it leads to somehing akin to a political discussion. There seems to be no room for the middle guy who actually tries to see and understand the attributes of both sides of any discussion. I also see the condescension piece coming from both sides and it does absolutely no good other than on here of course it gives us something to do on a rainy day. i do not like the concept of you must be on one side or the other or you just don't count.

    lol - You must be talking about that old "Its not me, it's them" Bryce Brentz. Seriously, a comparison of Pedroia to Bryce Brentz in any way is a massive compliment from a sports fan. Bryce must be doing something right.

    i'm not sure that anyone wishes bad things for this guy to say nothing about wishing him out of existence. i could counter your comment by saying that I just don't understand why there are so many people out there who think that he should be put back into a starting role just as soon as he says he is able. Bottom line for me is that I would be upset if that were to happen. As good as he has been, I don't think that you jettison someone who is doing the job so that we can watch him have another shot. Cruel of me I guess.

    I'm not caught up in the euphoria of watching Pedroia continue his rehab into the next decade. I respect what he has done and the way he has always approached the game but I am going to have a hard time dealing with a player doing what Chavis is doing being pushed aside if it should come to that in order to watch Pedroia get one more chance. I'm sure that there are people here who still believe that he can be a great asset to this team. Sorry, I guess I am not one of them. it has just been too long since he has faced real competition at the highest level. It is sad and it has to be tough on him but what Chavis has done in the field has been more than adequate. He works hard and he is going too get better. At the plate it is a no brainer.

    What defines "new school" and "old school"? I've been called "old school". It has not been used as a term of endearment. I happen to believe that using terms like this are alienating. I want what works on the field to be done whether it is something that has been done for years or something that has just been introduced recently. Believe it or not not knowing what all of the acronyms that are being used in current stat sheets does not directly relate to a person's direct knowledge of the game.

    I think that there have been a number of people who have seen Devers as our third baseman now and going forward. i am and have been for sure. he obviously he is a kid willing to work hard for what he gets. His fitness level proves that if you ask me. I do not now nor have I ever seen him as a first baseman moving forward.

    There really hasn't been much said about Devers defensive improvement of late. He is getting better. What I really like about him though is that he looks very good. He looks physically fit. if Devers and Chavis (if he stays clean) are representatives of what is coming out of our terrible minor league system, I say give me more!!!

    I love him in the morning and in the afternoon ... (the periods of ellipsis are not for notin) - I wish that we could clone him and bat him in every spot in the order.

    I kind of agree with yout and I would really agree with you if the bottom of our order starts to get on base more often. when Leon and Bradley bat 8 and 9, I like JD getting a chance to come to the plate in the first inning.

    Oh boy is this a shot at me notin? I've never called anyone a nerd nor have I ever even suggested that people who are in love with analytics did not participate in athletics. if the suggestion is that I never played or only have gained my knowledge from watching the game i could hit you with the old - You think because i never played that i cannot possibly know anything about the game? once again i did play although I was no standout but I would be willing to put my overall athletic abilities up against anyone here just for kicks. My comments are coming as a result of the condescending tone of the all things analyticals who claim that because they can find stats to support their opinion then they must be right. Obviously Cora gets it but boy it just rankle the analytics when he slips from the norm. i kind of like a manager who doesn't play it by the "new" book all of the time.

    Ok then - no comment to me means that the yap I have listened to is just that - ********. I'm someone who truly believes that you should use anything available to help your team improve but a healthy dose of common sense also needs to be applied. A somewhat traditional way of looking at a lineup obviously still works.

    So conjure me this one - I have had to listen for 2 years now why the number 3 spot in the lineup was arguably one of the worst places to put one of if not your best hitter. Hmmm - let's see - How long has it been now that Martinez has anchored that spot this year? Do the all things analytics folk think that JD likely told Cora that that is where he wanted to hit. Come on - For the record, I love seeing him in that spot. Maybe Cora represents more of a good blend of someone who isn't afraid to use all things analytical but at the same has some common sense.

    i know right but I admire him for it. I am sure that he will take the money owed him but he is just one tough little bastard. It is all about the love of the game with him. It is really sad when these types of things happen.

    Hiensohn is another one who is rarely mentioned and he obviously was great along with Mr. Havlicek and I have to include Satch Sanders in this mix.
