    One thing that no one tends to talk about is what is the hitting ceiling for Vazquez? He could become an adequate or even a good hitter. I like his chances of becoming a good hitter more than I like Swihart's chances of becoming better than an average catcher. It could take years before Swihart becomes the catcher that he might become. If he could help to bring us a solidly good pitcher, it might be the best thing that could happen for us as well as for him.

    Ockimey is a very good story. Too many kids playing well to list them all. i'm liking Dubon also.

    I am going to bet on Swihart being a better bet than Cecchini. i don't think that his bat will lay over all other prospects to warrant him moving from behind the plate though. He quite possibly with time becomes an adequate defensive catcher just not adequate enough to move him ahead of Vazquez. All of us who share this belief hope that we are wrong. good kid and good athlete.

    Shaw plays the game the right way. He is better than everybody gave him credit for being and he has an absolute rifle for an arm. Going forward, sadly for us possibly, it is going to require some intelligence to actually get these guys into positions where the best players are on the field in positions that they can help us the most. If Moncada continues to hit, he is going to move quickly upward. To continue using him at second base is the kind of "failure to adjust before it is too late" mentality that we are used to.

    touch and go here with Swihart and Devers for me. I know how how much you like Swihart. I like him to , just not as much. I like Devers too but I think that you could also make a case for Chavis. I agree with you about Kopech. If he develops, I think that it will be with us. I also think that Moncada could wind up at third base as well with Shaw moving back to first. I do think that DD is going to make a trade here eventually that is going to be upsetting to some - but I think that it will be for pitching! I will be ok with that for sure.

    I also think that getting Moncada off second base makes sense. He is very apt to be moving quickly through the system. I think that quite possibly Sam Travis could be our first baseman on opening day next year. Ramirez to the dh and Shaw stays put at third. Sandoval is heading toward that big dumpster. Now, with all that being said, a package of Sam Travis and others might just help to bring a real pitcher to Boston to help us get over the fact that both Kelly and Buchholz are essentially useless if you have to count on them.

    Interesting - For a young upward trending guy that has proven himself just a bit I would be ok with this package for sure. You would meet a lot of resistance from posters here who are willing to wait for the upside of all of these guys. Sadly, in some of these cases it might have already have been reached. Personally - as much as I love JBJ in the field, for the right player he would be gone in a heartbeat. His talent as well as his potential is replaceable. Once again, it is about the pitching.

    Yup - If a solid number 2 had been signed (as many of us have clamored for) then buchholz's Jekyl and Hyde crap would be much more tolerable. Put him in the 4/5 slot and take what you get.

    I would have a much easier time with Buchholz if we did not expect and need close to top of the rotation performances out of him. Probably from time to time we might well still see him throw a gem but is it worth the wait? I have seen him long enough personally and certainly wish that he was somewhere else. Sadly, Kelly seems to be following in his footsteps.

    I have 0 faith in both Buchholz and Kelly as starting pitchers for this team. The question I have dealt with is how much time is a long enough time for each to prove what they are capable of doing. They have both had plenty of time. I would find it much more exciting and entertaining as a fan to go in a different direction whether it is youth or not as opposed to simply sitting and hoping for different results everytime these two jamokes get handed the ball. Give me a reason to watch and have some future hope if we are going to be a .500 team.

    Owens and Johnson mid to back of rotation guys possibly. really nothing special. Historically they continue to do kind of a s***** job developing their own pitching. Some lower level prospects could be good.
