  1. John Farrell tends to fall into patterns that seem unbreakable regardless of what is going on. 7th - 8th - 9th - over and over and over again. I don't care how good you are, ain't going to work every time.
  2. I get the fact about the bat. It was just kind of an either/or random thought. Someone who can hit a little but can't field the position or someone who can't hit all but who could field the position. My choice would always be B when talking about a catcher. Kind of thought that Leon was a pretty good defender. Was not aware that he wasn't. If he is a worse defender than Hanigan, he should not be on any roster. He would be just clogging things up like others have.
  3. Owens - another decent start. Michael Chavis - oh baby what a start! Won't too much longer before Moncada and Benintendi will be on the move. I'm going to wish I had season's tickets to the Seadogs.
  4. Not me. As much as it pains me to say so, I would prefer Leon or a catcher like Leon to Swihart at this time. I like a catcher who can get it done at the ml level defensively. Swihart - maybe someday not today.
  5. Sometimes the words we choose to use are not particularly kind and can seem hateful.
  6. I'm ok with that swing.
  7. games not looking pretty right now
  8. Who would we invite on board to be our analytics specialist?
  9. We could put together a great team. Clearly we could solve any issues that they have. We would have to have bigger fish tho fry than just the Boston Red Sox though.
  10. yup - i know, out of character for me but what the hell.
  11. So - he moves ahead of Porcello on the depth chart?
  12. hey hey - little love here for cp(lol). If nothing else, he might be a piece of the big trade puzzle.
  13. if anybody out there really believes that what the Sox have done this year represents a win now at all cost philosophy would you please explain to me what you mean. Nothing they have done looks like that to me. Is it just me? Is this what you mean: 1. We should have started Sandoval 2. We should not have sent Castillo down 3. We should not have sent Swihart back to AAA 4. We should not have signed Price 5. We should not have traded for Kimbrel (Who were those guys we traded again) 6. We should not have traded for Smith 7. We should not be starting Shaw at third base there has to be something I am missing here. i am very excited about this year as well as future years in part because of those moves. I'll admit that I can be a little slow so if you can please explain how the future years of our beloved franchise are threatened by these moves that appear logical to me I would be grateful.
  14. My Dad told me when I was 18 that pretty soon I would look in the mirror and some old guy would be looking back at me.
  15. Hey - I'm happy for the kid. Not sure that he is an upgrade over Marrero or Rutledge. He might be the same player. I think that they are rewarding him for the work that he has put in plus they need to find out a little more about him. They are pretty well stocked with players like him right now. He is certainly stronger looking than he was last year. When I saw him in Portland, I was very impressed with him.
  16. At what point in his development was Swihart moved to the catching position?
  17. Although I have been a fan for over 50 years, I guess I must be one of the unusual ones these days. I want them to compete every year. What Dombrowski has done so far is by no means a win at all costs philosophy. His moves have seemed logical, prudent and about time to many of us. Like I have said before, he doesn't look as good in his suit as Cherington did. Hope he isn't offended because at this point it surely looks like he knows more about the way the game is played.
  18. I won't be checking out the crystal ball on any of these guys. Just going to enjoy what this young man is doing right now.
  19. Last year counts too. Who gets to decide how long you should stay with a player be he young or old before you have seen enough? Just like everybody else, I love the kids athleticism but seriously he just was not and is not ready to catch at the big league level. Keeping him up with the big club was hurting him as much as it was hurting us.
  20. Like this one!!!
  21. He sure looked good in a suit though didn't he. I prefer Dombrowski's rumpled look and common sense logical approach.
  22. Castillo will probably get his chance but if he does I am guessing that it will be with another team. Signing him to begin with was an extremely expensive risk. Not the type of risk that is going to happen going forward. Trade talks are going to start warming up. This team is to close to being real good to not go out and get that one more guy that we need.
  23. It would seem to make sense to me to get them as early as you could so that they could be taught exactly what the system requires them to learn. It can take a long time for a catcher to learn what he needs to know and to actually put it all together.
  24. I really like Shaw. He is big, athletic, has a rifle for an arm and just quite simply earned the right to be our third baseman.
  25. Lest there be any confusion - it is about the pitching.
