  1. You are probably right. You know more about whoever he/she is than I do. I will say again though that whatever the role unless they actually play the game they are replaceable and probably easily. Sometimes we tend to make people out to be much more special than they are. It will be a temporary loss and certainly doesn't reflect on the direction the organization is going with respect to the product on the field. I'm sure that some might try to make this a DD story of sorts. That will be too bad!
  2. I agree with you and I sense a mini-conspiracy theory brewing. I don't want them to become top heavy with unnecessary personnel. We are all replaceable! My concern is much more directed toward the players playing as opposed to the executives exectiveing.
  3. This year? He really wasn't all that effective over the course of the season. He pitched in the playoffs pretty much the way he pitched all season. He wilted all season and I don't give a s*** how many games he won. Not ace like this year.
  4. If you have ever played at any type of elevated level in any competitive sport, you know that all of things that we might call human factors - the things that can't be measured exist and are very very important. It is what has always made a life in athletics fun for me. I believe that good solid preparation can certainly make some athletes and teams seem more lucky than others but when the screws start to tighten interesting things that just defy logic quite often happen.
  5. i don't necessarily agree with your feelings about the job Farrell did this fall but I do agree with many of your opinions about the predictability of athletic performances join general.
  6. As the stage gets bigger, the talent level increases, but it doesn't change the fact that the pressure is still there. Most of us regardless of how talented we are, will be affected by pressure. Not everybody wilts when faced with it - not everybody rises above it.
  7. By looking at and dissecting all possible statistics, if Shaw looks like the worst third baseman in the game, that tells me that all of the others aren't bad. It's not as though this young man gave us 0. If he returns as our third baseman it does not foretell impending doom for our team.
  8. On this we agree
  9. Who was that guy who said that Kluber should be the one we go after? i think that I remember him.
  10. I actually kind of agree with you a little bit although I think that inspiration can produce better results more easily in football (control the los) and in basketball (challenge someone to step up defensively) the two sports that I do actually know something about other than baseball and golf. i do think that this team falls short when it comes to playing with excitement and enthusiasm. Every now and then , we have seen some glimmers of adrenaline rushes but maybe not often enough. All players will tell you that they hate to lose it is just that some hate to lose more than others. I like those types of players and coaches.
  11. One thing that we can agree on is that he is a business man. None of us really have any idea what he might do. DD will have a great deal of input for sure. i think that he will do what they think it takes to move this franchise closer to where they want to be. As in winning a world series. he knows perfectly well what this team is worth if he were to sell it. He knows that is when he makes his money if that is what he decides to do. He might actually just like being the owner of this team. I don't think think that he will spend with wanton disregard for the luxury tax but on the other hand if you think that he wouldn't be willing to go over it in order to pay the price that might give this team an edge, I truly think that you are wrong.
  12. Really - Tito vs Madden ??? unbelievable - Much more credit than any managers not to mention these two old farts should ever get. Believe it or not it is the Guardians vs the Cubs and I hope like the dickens that it is all Cleveland.
  13. i think that it is wonderful that we have the wisdom that we have here when assessing our future needs. I'm really not being sarcastic when I say that either. I also think that John Henry would appreciate you all trying to save the money that he has and maybe even make him some more. That might be sarcasm. 1. Trade for a totr young pitcher 2. Sign the big bat to whack it in the middle of the order 3. Sign Koji, and Ziegler if you can and maybe one other Win the East again and then take your chances. Third Base presents no issue whatsoever.
  14. Our hole at 3rd base (uf that is what it should be called) is not insurmountable. Also - iggy still couldn't hit -
  15. Kind of like everything I ever really needed to learn I learned in Kindergarten. Tee ball experiences count too!
  16. I have used that expression many times myself. We went from last place to first place. it was a great season. I think that we are definitely heading in the right direction.
  17. Shaw - Moncada (possibly sooner than we think) - Sandoval (you never know) Worst case scenario you have have Holt to back up Shaw once again. Might look like a weakness but only because the rest of the team looks so strong.
  18. Honestly - what made me think that he just couldn't hit a lick?
  19. My memory has failed me. But - I'm still very pleased with guy we have there now.
  20. Managers are often given way too much credit when their team's win and certainly too much blame when they lose. The good ones take responsibility for the losses and give all the credit to their players with respect to the wins. Farrell makes the cut.
  21. My speculation is that the Sox see replacing Papi's bat as a priority. I do not think that dealing with the situation from within is really what they want to do. i also speculate that signing a bat will not impact what they decide to do about their pitching in general at all. Not one bit. John Henry truly knows that when he sells the club he will make more money than is even imaginable. He is meeting his payroll and doing pretty well I think. The third base situation will quite probably play itself out and become a positive for us going forward.
  22. "iggy" is gone basically because he could not seem to hit at all. Great glove - 0 hit. I hope that he has a great career but Mark Belanger he was not. We are far better off as is!
  23. I think that I might look at things differently if third wasn't the only place on the field that they look a little weak. I am willing to look beyond what the stats say about where Shaw and company ranks. 16 H/runs from him plus a decent RBI total to go along with a decent job done in the field. With 3 guys vying for the position, I don't see why anyone would view it as a situation so urgent that it takes priority over anything else.
  24. I think that if a trade occurs that involves one of our outfielders than you look to replace him. I would do nothing with respect to third base. Rather than sign someone for even a year, I would take a chance that between Shaw, Sandoval, and Moncada the job will get done. I don't see any urgency with respect to third base.
  25. great post thank you!!!
