  1. a sacrifice bunt really? KC must have missed the memo - you can't do that anymore and be taken seriously.
  2. lol - probably me. I understand perfectly but you have to understand that I don't buy into all of this fake budgetary talk very much. 50 or so million here - another 50 or so there - my goodness who can we ever afford to compete. What forever shall we do. That luxury tax thing is just so vexing.
  3. I have not seen but he is a big boy. With all these little guys we have here it is kind of like a breath of fresh air to have a guy that at least looks like he might be able to hit it over the fence .
  4. Hey as long as it is only your hands that you are wringing down there then all is good.
  5. I was a 9 year old farm teamer playing second base when my Grandfather gave me the run down on this one. It is about as simple as it can get.
  6. c'mon Notin - now you are talking my language.
  7. I really haven't thought of it quite like this before. Living where you live and being a devoted Sox fan - that makes you worthy. I don't want to see us lose an arms race to the Yankees either.
  8. I saw the throw that you are talking about. It was 25 feet over the cutoff man's head. I felt at the time that it was bad fundamental bb. He has played in the outfield for a long time now and should know better. They all need to be held accountable when they screw up like this. They all already know what to do and where the ball should be thrown too. if they aren't executing these types of pretty simple plays the right way, it might be that they aren't really being held accountable for their mistakes. Not enough just to say that they know better and laugh it off.
  9. Jeremy Barfield is having a very interesting season for the Seadogs.
  10. I'm no fan of the way he has gone about things but I've got no feelings of compassion for anybody in the news. I'm not 100% convinced that it really matters to him where he pitches. I don't see him as a small market guy necessarily. Maybe one of the reasons that we as fans have not been seeing the results we have expected is that we have over rated our guys. It happens a lot in New England.
  11. This has been pretty obvious. I would say though that regardless of how well Price was able to throw, a trade enabling us to get Sale was a major coup no matter.
  12. This is a serious question - Why is it that everyone seems to think that David Price hates Boston this much? I get the fact that he is no fan of the Boston media. All I have heard from him is how much he cares for his teammates. Some of them have been very outspoken in their support of him. Most of what I have read about him has always been about what a great teammate he is. I might be on an island here but I don't care about his feud with David Eckersley much at all although i do understand why some do.
  13. I miss the Don and Jerry show very very much these days. I keep trying to really like Dave and all of the ones filling in for Jerry but it just hasn't worked for me. I get a kick out of some of the things that get said and the goofy ways in which they are said but I don't need a steady dose of any of it. Orsillo and Remy are no longer together and presently neither is with us - I miss them.
  14. I understand how you feel but how do any of us know if Benintendi is in a slump? Leon or Vazquez - did people really think that they would be any better than they are? I must have missed something - 2 good catchers though. Bogaert's - beaten down - although I would say that people who keep thinking that his power numbers are going to be prodigious might be wrong. Young - really? Betts is not putting up Trout like numbers. Maybe this is more like who he is. I just do not see this great under performing theory that has been projected and no amount of statistical maneuvering is apt to change my mind. We were hoping - all of us - that there would be a progression with many of these young guys but it hasn't happened. I am much more inclined to think that what we are seeing might be what we have in them.
  15. A sensible, reasonable take on things in my book.
  16. Correct - somewhere in the middle more than likely. I keep hearing though about young players who really haven't been playing that long, playing below their career norms. How long do you have to play in order for them to be called career norms? This could be who they are. Hope not but it could be.
  17. Trading Shaw was not an unpopular move in the eyes of many posters here when it was done. Crying over it now, seems to be what people do .
  18. Hey - question for you - seriously who hired this guy Farrell anyway? Who in the hell was the GM that hired this guy? lol
  19. All ist seems to take is some losing and the guys of the past just don't look so bad don't you think? The Sox are losing and oh would it be different if Ben was leading the way. i don't buy it at all! I wonder if this has ever happened before in boston? Oh yeah - guess it has.
  20. How many times have I heard here about how these guys are underperforming. i have never bought it at all but that is just me. The plan was to build on the pitching as opposed to signing the significant sluggers to replace Papi. If everyone had remained healthy, perhaps it would have worked and actually still might. As much as I would have loved to have seen EE signed , it didn't happen. All of the people here who have been saying all along that they have an unblinded faith in the fact that these little guys should be raking, should not be criticizing DD for not signing the big power bat. Now as for decimating the farm - really? - who did we lose for whom? Losing Shaw really does look like it hurt but if thornburg had remained healthy not so much I think. You want to give Sale and Kimbrel and Pomeranz back so you can get a do over? For whom? Hindsight hypocrisy at its best! You want them back so you can get a bigger bat - good - I like Sale and Kimbel and Pomeranz right where they are and so would every other ml club if they could get them. Time to relax - there is an adult in charge. This amazingly talented group of professionals that some of you have been slobbering over, might not be quite as good as you think they are.
  21. For all of the good that people think has come from the internet age there are still times that maybe we actually might be better off without it.
  22. Thanks notin - We all love this team and lifelong fans probably do feel as though it is in some way or another our team. The Red Sox really are fortunate that they have such a passionate fan base. When I hear people talk about how tough it is to play in Boston, I can't help but think that it is always tough to play somewhere that you are expected to win. It is a good thing for the most part but it can get messy sometimes I guess.
  23. i totally agree with this. Trying to go exclusively lefties vs righties and righties vs lefties just doesn't make sense to me. I'm also opposed to what I think is an absolute over abundance of shifts that I constantly see our infielders in. All things in moderation. A time and a place so to speak.
  24. Winning is the easy part. True character tends to come out when things don't go as planned - as in losing. Many of us have questioned from the beginning the leadership that John Farrell has provided. When things go well, leadership is an attribute that can easily get overlooked. When you are losing, you better have someone tough enough to keep a lid on all of the bad things that can come up. John Farrell seems like a good person- a good man I guess. When you are the leader, you sometimes have to be the bad guy. He strikes me like the parent whose child can never make mistakes. It is not an easy job but it is a job that has to be done. It is not simply a player's responsibility to put out all of the little brush fires that can erupt. Every now and then, even adults need to be disciplined.
