  1. And therein lies the truth.
  2. So I have to get this one straight. if the laws of physics say that a fastball cannot rise, then it doesn't right. I'm ok with that. But if people who have played the game and who are currently playing the game think that it actually does because of what it looks like to them, does it really matter what the laws of physics say? Maybe it is an illusion - Im ok with that to.
  3. ya - about that Bell - at 7:14 am I bet that you are just getting home after a long night of partying!
  4. Let me see if I get this straight (just being a pain in the ass here) - a pitcher knows that he has Ortiz in the on deck circle as he looks in to the plate. There are two outs. Is it not at least conceiveable that the guy in the batter's box might be given a really good pitch or two to hit because no one wants to have to count on trying to get a hitter out like Ortiz if they have another option? I enjoyed my strat - o - magic baseball game just like some of the people who posted here too but I pretty much knew that rolling the dice made it make believe no matter how similar the stats appeared. SS- it is pretty clear that some opinions have been made up for sure and no amount of common sense will apply. The data says this is the way it is and that's it.
  5. You know sometimes in my attempt to just be humorous I find myself in a hole that I have to dig my way out of. I'm really glad that there are a couple of people here who get what I try to say most of the time. We all hope Beni becomes the player that all of the so called scouts and brilliant minds believe he might become. i'm pretty sure that you understand what I am trying to say. These guys are all the same size. In some respects that means they sort of look alike. Not one of them including Benintendi looks big enough to carry the weight of the franchise on their shoulders. They are all replaceable tomorrow. I hope Beni becomes a star but if doesn't eventually play with just a lick of intelligence he is just going to wind up being a plus minus kind of guy. maybe he just needs a swift kick in the ass now and then. I posted this here Spud because I know that you get the fact that I realize that there is a difference in the ability levels of all these little guys.
  6. Read closely - they looked alike. i'm not ready to anoint benintendi into the HOF just yet but I get the fact that he is playing ml baseball. I'm just not all lathered up about trying to resign him already to a gazillion dollar contract. I bet though that as soon as he learns how to run the bases and play the field i'll feel better about him.
  7. When Eck walked to the front of the plane.
  8. Sale and Betts I get. The other two - no rush there. if we can't sign them, ho hum. They are replaceable.
  9. In my estimation, I think that Bogaerts still has something to prove before we talk resigning. I love JBJ as well but I think that ultimately whether he stays depends on what he wants. He brings a unique defensive skill set to the table but he is replaceable. Sale and Betts I agree - the other two not so much - slow it down see what they do. In many ways they can both be improved upon.
  10. I really liked Dubon when I saw him play but in all honesty Hernandez,Lin, and Marerro might have been him too. Actually Benintendi could have been mistaken for him as well. If Beni played the infield, they could all be the same guy. boston has done this for quite some time. A collection of solid mediocrity (benintendi of course excluded). That is why I get so excited when we do have someone appear who can hit but actually might get the ball over the outfielders heads as well.
  11. More wordsmithing me thinks. Doesn't sound quite as bad as that cliff word does it.
  12. I watched him pitch in Boston. All 3 of those guys looked as though they were at least going to be ok. Funny how it works.
  13. i hope not. i don't want them to give up anyone who really looks as though they might have power.
  14. I agree with you - too early to be sold on any of these guys but what they have done is exceptional! I would take a chance on either or both before I signed any aging has been maybes.
  15. That is a neat and accurate I think perspective on things posted. We are all authors of sorts I guess.
  16. ok - all good
  17. Jeremy Barfield's being named EL's player of the month at least deserves notice. his stats for the past month are almost hard to believe. Best ever in franchise history.
  18. i know right - perhaps I need to be a little more precise.
  19. Bogey just got a nice little hit. I take back anything that I have said that might be interpreted as negative about him. lol
  20. Oh boy - calling me out. I'm pretty sure that he doesn 't care about me. he might care deeply about you. i assume that he cares about his teammates. Now - further - when i said guys it was collectively used. We (meaning me not you) have historically felt that we have a mutual love affair with our home grown heros. When they signed on the dotted line, we (me again) expected them to be here year after year. I believe that Bogey as you say will follow the money and that his decision to stay here in Boston if he does will be because of the money as opposed to his caring for me or any other particular fan here. Now I freely admit that I could be wrong. perhaps he will decide to stay here in boston for much less money than he could make somewhere else. That would truly prove that he does care deeply for all of us and New England in general. With all that being said, i guess that I could simply have stated that he might be a great guy but it appears to me that he might be greatly over rated as a baseball player. oh - I also think that it is safe to say that he won't be overly concerned with what any of us think about him. In addition, in my opinion, if he left after this season (which he won't), he is just as replaceable as a clear majority of the rest of these guys are.
  21. Jesus Christ ( I apologize) - jim rice played 163 games in 1978. If Bogaerts continues on his current pace, let him go when we can. he is clearly replaceable. If he took what was offerred, I might keep him but in no way is he worth the farm plus the acerage. We have to get over this love affair for these guys who really don't care much about us.
  22. Well i have talked to you and you do have the voice. What about the rest of you?
  23. The end product is what counts my friend not the time it takes to create it.
  24. I felt all along that expecting a team filled with predominantly under sized non home run hitters to repeat in any way what happened last year was an extreme stretch and should not have been expected by anyone. We needed to sign a bigger bat than Moreland - we didn't. We went a different route and hey things ore ok. When people say that these guys are under performing, i say no i don't think so. listen to what Betts has to say and maybe the understanding might seep through. he clearly acknowledges that he may never have another year like last year. He I think I would make an effort to keep - the rest of our young guys (not including Devers), if they can get better offers some place else - so be it. They are all replaceable.
  25. It is never too late for that gig. A good fictional mystery read born in the bowels of Fenway Park. That would give Spud something else to occupy his post midnight life with. let's go!
