  1. add - lee "the stinger" Stange, Jose santiago, Jerry Moses
  2. Sounds good - like a plan. I need to read more carefully I guess.
  3. Don't misunderstand me here. I think that we all likely care about these types of things. I'm simply stating my opinion which might not be the popular one. I'm ok with that. I think that it is ok if we all believe what we want to believe. It would not surprise me at all if John Henry blows the lid right off the luxury tax limit. Also, he might not. I'm not making any judgement on what he might or might not do until he actually does or says something to make his position clearer. i doubt that happens. He has the money to do what ever it is that he wants to do.
  4. I don't think that they are silly suggestions at all. I just don't share the opinion that he is dead set upon staying under the luxury tax limit.
  5. I also believe the budget is a real thing. But I will still say (although I don't really care) that I have never actually heard John Henry make any statement that has to do with how he chooses to spend his money thus I don't guess at what his agenda may be. I also really do find it humorous how many people here sound like they in fact really have a clue about what he considers his budget to be. Unless they sit right in his inner circle, which i guess they might, they don't.
  6. So - here is how I interpret what you are saying Notin - Jeter could care less about building the future Marlins team based around one of the truly great potential players of this generation. I am just suggesting that trading off this kid would be the pr nightmare that no one wants to have. I think even Jeter cares about that just a bit.
  7. I would think not. They might listen to him though. I agree that it is good to dream.
  8. Going to have to stick to my primary point here - Many of the people who post here. seem to care more about the Red Sox budget than the primary owner does.
  9. You just keep writing - don't worry about what it looks like. Most of us can figure it out. I was kind of thinking Doerr. It is probably a good thing for Pedroia that he can be mentioned together with Doerr.
  10. if Stanton was to come to Boston, do you think that Jeter would ever be allowed to even enter the state of New York? Don't see it happening.
  11. I'm just glad that you are posting. For me, the simple historical value of the things that you write are very significant. Seeing is believing in my book. I have read about how great Foxx was and i did appreciate how good Williams was but I saw none of Foxx and not much of Williams. Bobby Doer or Dustin Pedroia - who are you going to go with?
  12. it's kind of obvious to me that we have any number of posters here who care one big s*** load more about the luxury tax limit and all of the crap that goes with than John Henry does. We are lucky - he is very wealthy - he wants to own a winner today and tomorrow.
  13. Agree - it just seemed like the right time. Good common sense!
  14. What I will also say is that I am very glad that Devers was not traded earlier. i feel the same way about Mookie. Whoever the GM was who had the foresight to hang on to these guys ( throw Benintendi and JBJ in there as well) did us good! I actually do think I know who that GM was but due to my advancing age, his name has slipped my mind. (LOL)
  15. I'm not exactly sure when the "appropriate" time might have been to bring Devers up but once the Sandoval experiment ended it was really a no brainer. The alternatives were to continue to think that a 20 year old wasn't mature enough or had not been exposed to a higher level of baseball for a long enough time. or to go out and trade for a one year rental until Devers was ready. in my mind, both of those alternatives were a joke and hopefully were never given much consideration. Outside of simply leaving one our little punch and Judy hitters at third, moving Devers was the common sense move to make. We all know that he will experience ups and downs they all do. It is just that here when he enters a down period, people will undoubtedly post that he was brought up too soon out of desperation. With that arm, he could be our third baseman for a long time.
  16. I get the fact that there are plenty of people who think that the order in which players bat in the lineup makes little difference. The real fact is that yes it can make a little difference. It might be a small thing in the big scheme of things, but it is still a thing. If a poorly constructed lineup costs one game, that would be one game too many. I like Devers in either the 4 or 3 hole where he we can take advantage of some of the power that we do have in this lineup. While I am on the subject, yes I did see the Encarnarcion show last night.
  17. Are you kidding me? that can't be so! lol
  18. I absolutely agree with you about the role pitching and defense play!
  19. Farrell scares me primarily because he plays at being smart. He often tries to play by someone else's book of baseball knowledge from game to game. I cannot tell if he is a manager cut from the statistical guide book or from the old play by feel kind of guy who is just willing to roll out the ball. Batting order, lefty- righty, shifts, 7-8-and 9th inning relievers, etc. Who is he? I would feel better about him if he just wasn't interviewed I think. His team is winning! Whether it is him or our incredibly good GM(it's ok to laugh) I'm not sure I even care. I just hope that after Devers swat off Chapman, he might accept the fact that sometimes it is ok to leave a lefty in vs a lefty. You might be surprised.
  20. I understand how some here want to de-emphasize the importance of the home run but doesn't it make you feel a little better when you think there is at least a chance? Last night - what 4 hits and one was Dever's opposite field shot off Chapman. Benintendi the night before with a couple of big dingers. Come on - it has to make you feel better knowing that there is at least a chance.
  21. I'm glad you posted this. I saw him once last year, and really felt that he had the tools to be very effective. Young, big, left handed.
  22. Actually there is a lot of truth to what you are saying here.
  23. I agree with what I think that you are saying. Maybe that is the safest way to go about agreeing with someone's point of view if you are not actually speaking with them. I will amend what I said slightly - I agree with everything you said up to the point where you used the "liberal" word. (lol)
  24. You have been a steadfast supporter of Swihart's from the beginning. More so than any other poster on here that I have read. Many of us have recognized his athleticism for sure but on the same hand some of us - me included- felt that his greatest value was as a trade chip going forward. He has been beset by injury and that is sad. I would love nothing more than to see him get healthy, come back and play for this team, proving almost all of us wrong. People with his athletic attributes just don't come along everyday.
