  1. I'm not exactly sure when the "appropriate" time might have been to bring Devers up but once the Sandoval experiment ended it was really a no brainer. The alternatives were to continue to think that a 20 year old wasn't mature enough or had not been exposed to a higher level of baseball for a long enough time. or to go out and trade for a one year rental until Devers was ready. in my mind, both of those alternatives were a joke and hopefully were never given much consideration. Outside of simply leaving one our little punch and Judy hitters at third, moving Devers was the common sense move to make. We all know that he will experience ups and downs they all do. It is just that here when he enters a down period, people will undoubtedly post that he was brought up too soon out of desperation. With that arm, he could be our third baseman for a long time.
  2. I get the fact that there are plenty of people who think that the order in which players bat in the lineup makes little difference. The real fact is that yes it can make a little difference. It might be a small thing in the big scheme of things, but it is still a thing. If a poorly constructed lineup costs one game, that would be one game too many. I like Devers in either the 4 or 3 hole where he we can take advantage of some of the power that we do have in this lineup. While I am on the subject, yes I did see the Encarnarcion show last night.
  3. Are you kidding me? that can't be so! lol
  4. I absolutely agree with you about the role pitching and defense play!
  5. Farrell scares me primarily because he plays at being smart. He often tries to play by someone else's book of baseball knowledge from game to game. I cannot tell if he is a manager cut from the statistical guide book or from the old play by feel kind of guy who is just willing to roll out the ball. Batting order, lefty- righty, shifts, 7-8-and 9th inning relievers, etc. Who is he? I would feel better about him if he just wasn't interviewed I think. His team is winning! Whether it is him or our incredibly good GM(it's ok to laugh) I'm not sure I even care. I just hope that after Devers swat off Chapman, he might accept the fact that sometimes it is ok to leave a lefty in vs a lefty. You might be surprised.
  6. I understand how some here want to de-emphasize the importance of the home run but doesn't it make you feel a little better when you think there is at least a chance? Last night - what 4 hits and one was Dever's opposite field shot off Chapman. Benintendi the night before with a couple of big dingers. Come on - it has to make you feel better knowing that there is at least a chance.
  7. I'm glad you posted this. I saw him once last year, and really felt that he had the tools to be very effective. Young, big, left handed.
  8. Actually there is a lot of truth to what you are saying here.
  9. I agree with what I think that you are saying. Maybe that is the safest way to go about agreeing with someone's point of view if you are not actually speaking with them. I will amend what I said slightly - I agree with everything you said up to the point where you used the "liberal" word. (lol)
  10. You have been a steadfast supporter of Swihart's from the beginning. More so than any other poster on here that I have read. Many of us have recognized his athleticism for sure but on the same hand some of us - me included- felt that his greatest value was as a trade chip going forward. He has been beset by injury and that is sad. I would love nothing more than to see him get healthy, come back and play for this team, proving almost all of us wrong. People with his athletic attributes just don't come along everyday.
  11. I really think that you are right.
  12. Hey hey hey there - i'm on a little late but this is from the Pom Pom lover from the git go.
  13. Those little F------ squiggly things are Egyptian hieroglyphs clearly. Thought you would like the ----s. lol Trying to clean up my act!
  14. I think that outside of some really numb running and fielding errors, he is and will be fine for us. I think that people's expectations of the kid at the plate have been a little high though.
  15. I have been hearing quite a bit of the "win now mode" that we are in and I have to say I'm all for it. i have been in a win now mode for this team since 1967 and but for just a few years we have had a right to think that we could. Sometimes we did. I like it though - win now - it works for me. i would hate to think that what we had to look forward to was simply next year. it is and has been a great franchise that does not have to rely on a low budget feeder system. Win now - interesting - works for me.
  16. Not really better but thanks Max - I love aggressive base running when it is done the right way. We have great team speed and if the really stupid mistakes get fewer and fewer, we get a chance to utilize it. The stolen base has made a bit of a revival for us recently as well. I have felt all along that from a hitting perspective this might be closer to who we really are than who we looked like we were last year. Moving Devers and going and out and getting Nunez have really proven to be key moves. Obviously I am a fan of DD's but I can actually say that even though I know we won't win the rest of them, I think that I could start to really like this team. I would choose to watch a well pitched game over a slugfest any day. When the pitching is good, it becomes must watch tv for me. i really do wish that we were a little healthier but this latest run has been impressive. i have been loving every minute of it.
  17. Personally I would feel a lot more comfortable with a healthy Price in our rotation. Can't have everything I guess and getting Kelly back in the pen helps. Maybe against hope, i still am hoping that Carson Smith can get back there as well. Making a really good bullpen better, being aggressive and actually intelligent on the base paths as opposed to flat out stupid and we might just have enough!
  18. I am all about most of the runs that they are scoring these days I just don;t get too excited about their bats in general. Aggressive (not stupid) baselining has enabled them to score many of those runs. Whether it has been by stealing bases or getting that extra base as a result of one of our singles hitters punching one out there. It's all good. Doesn't matter how they score them but they have not morphed into the great hitters that many still feel that they should be.
  19. exactly the point - there is aggressive baserunning and then there are stupid baserunning mistakes. I really don't see too many posts that are critical of aggressive baselining even though you are bound to run into some outs. This team does not hit well enough to not be aggressive on the base paths. Aggressive vs stupid - big difference. What we have not seen much of is praise for these guys getting out and stealing some bases. They have the speed and the ability to manufacture some runs. They need to continue to do it.
  20. Another good night for Barfield as well.
  21. I liked that stuff back in the day. Even that one.
  22. Don't think so . i'm really not much like him. Demeaning people never worked particularly well for me and I just coached the high school kids.
  23. dominating pitching performance last night. First you get a big dose of Sale then you have to deal with Kimbrel. My oh my. Glad JBJ got that little base knock late. A little redemption for him.
  24. I'm a paltry substitute for old Fred aren't I?
