  1. I'll be going down for the first time in years. I think that they will be good right out of the gate. i also think that people are going to be surprised by the quality that comes off the bench. This year's team will not be just about the irving and Hayward deals. They stock piled a few big strong bodies that will be better than what they had last year. I don't think that the bench rebuild is quite done just yet either.
  2. Good one here - You know me by now - I'm never going to doubt this statistical evidence that tells us all that he is just one fine all time hitter -lol Just throwing out an observation.
  3. One thing that I never claimed to be was much of a hitting coach but when I see Hanley swing the bat I do get confused. If the ball is in the center of the strike zone, he stands a good chance of making contact but that swing never changes much. He doesn't give me the impression that he swings at the ball as opposed to just swinging through the strike zone. The best hitters whether they are simply contact or power hitters look to me as though they are actually locating the ball and making adjustments to hit it where it is pitched. We can all hope that he gets a chance to see a few more hangers in the middle of the zone I guess. Those he murders!
  4. I also have to add that what Kluber did last night to Nunez was ridiculous. I don't think that swinging hard really merits getting hit by a pitch. That being said, i really hope that we see nothing that resembles retaliation for Kluber's stupid move out of Sale. Just win the game.
  5. Pomeranz has come a long way in the eyes of many. I really have liked the kid and now I like him more. He is a big left hander who has some pop on that fastball and a devastating curve ball. What I really liked seeing though was the other night when the camera gave us a shot of him on the dugout steps. He really looked like he wanted to stay in that game. I get the knock on his failure to get us depict games but the way pitching is approached has changed dramatically. He has been held to the proverbial 100+ a few pitch count even when things have gone well. I really think that his "toughness" factor has elevated throughout the course of this season. I'm sure that it hasn't hurt having Sale at the top of the rotation. My guess is that Pomeranz's best years are ahead of him.
  6. nice post thunder and I agree about IT. Without him this year, the Celtics don't get to where they got. I think that we will all be surprised and impressed watching Irving game in and game out. he is at the top of the point guard food chain.
  7. Thanks DD - lol
  8. We are in good shape for the final push - Let's hope that the JBJ thumb injury doesn't amount to anything. Need him . Get the the dark lords back healthy - Price and Pedroia - this team might be the one to beat.
  9. Pomeranz play to date Max is not a big a surprise to me. I think that he has the potential to be better. That being said, I hope he keeps it going tonight.
  10. If you are Celtics fan and maybe even a Red Sox fan, I think that it always tough to see good players - good team players - leave. I agree with "best handicapper" though that Crowder could not guard James - no one really can. With him gone, there is a clear avenue for Brown who really did look good this summer. Good as in ready now. This move also might allow for Tatum to get the needed minutes to progress as well. IT has good years ahead of him for sure I just could not see him getting the max contract that he is going to want. I also think that Irving is just better overall.
  11. I'm looking ahead with this deal. Sooner or later Lebron is gone - eventually even if he doesn't leave Cleveland, he has to slow down. I think that this deal sets the Celtics up for years to come. Think I'll just say it - Kyrie is bigger, younger and better than It. Keeping Crowder and IT would not have moved the Cletics closer to the top. I think that this move does - now and in the future. Might even help Cleveland this year and in the long run as well.
  12. i think that you are probably right here but it is close. If Brown and Tatum come along, i 'm going with us. This is a very very good trade for Celtics IMO. I appreciate what both IT and Crowder gave to us, but it wasn't going to be enough going forward. "Backing up the Brinks" truck for IT just wasn't going to happen and I think Crowder was destined to be a role player. I'm very anxious to see what the Coach Stevens can accomplish with this group. Just another great move for the future for this team!
  13. Being a duly diagnosed OCD guy all the way myself, i think that I do understand where you are coming from. I'm not sure that I am in the let's get rid of Farrell group to the extent that some are (can i say that without naming names here? am I safe?), but I appreciate the conviction with which you and some others express yourselves. if they continue to play hard for him even though it isn't always prefaced by being smart and they keep winning, I would probably go with keeping him.
  14. oh nononono! he is just developing into his own person! (that's a joke moon)
  15. I think that you are pretty much right there. He has always been pretty much a middle of the rotation guy. most of us have hoped for a #2 kind of like Pomeranz is right now but he really has never looked like an ace to most of us. yes - even though he won the cy. i like him and am glad that we have him. he has always struck me as the kind of guy who will get the most out of what he has to give.
  16. he made a hell of a play on Gardiner's grounder in the hole!
  17. From what I have read or heard, i guess I would say that I'm not a big fan of his if this is in reality who Price is. With respect to that though, I do not think that he is some malcontent who is making for a negative clubhouse. Saying that we do not need and could not use a healthy Price is just silly IMO. I want this team to win. They are starting to do the things that I love to see being done on a regular basis. A healthy Price more than puts this team over the top potentially.
  18. I agree very much with you here.
  19. I like this post a lot!
  20. His our boy getting squeezed here or what? Shrink that plate up mf - won't make any difference.
  21. It is good to see Vazquez hitting for sure but I don't understsand why anyone would want to break up the nice little rotation that this tandem has going right now. They are almost the same guy where it counts - behind the plate. It is a tough job being a catcher. Sharing the job as they have been doing I think tends to keep them both healthy and hungry. They are both good starting catchers and they both serve as good backups to each other.
  22. At the risk of being banned from this forum, I have to say that I have never hated the Yankees - I just don't hate in general but my strong dislike of the franchise really seemed to take hold in 1960 (I was 9) and Bill Mazeroski's walk off in game 7 for the Pirates. I was elated! I felt the other end of that spectrum when my National favorite team the Giants fell to them. I think that it was McCovey's low liner that Richardson picked off his shoe tops that ended that series and broke my baseball heart. I could go back and check my facts, but I don't care that much about facts and advanced stats - although I did play the advanced version of Strato for quite some time. I just love the game and Richardson was a hell of a ballplayer and it didn't matter what uniform he was in.
  23. not tall enough
  24. The Yankees teams that I grew up paying attention to were just so dominating that if you followed baseball at all, you at least were aware of them. I didn't like them much but I sure and hell knew about and respected them. When Maris was trying to break Ruth's record, we couldn't get enough coverage. As far as a rivalry goes - nothing like the Celtics and the Lakers of the 60's. That was a rivalry!
