  1. Please - explain to me how they are supposed to do that. Spikes up is never ok. Please just explain how you think runners are now supposed to be able to break up a double play and still play within the current rules of the game.
  2. A takeout slide is or was a lot different then going in to any base spikes up. If the rule allows for a baserunner to go across the bag spikes up no matter where he is or where the second baseman is located it is a s***** rule. It does happen for sure but it isn't supposed to. I will say though that a real takeout slide as in body to body contact can cripple a player just as easily. I'm not familiar with anyone anywhere who teaches sliding which all coaches do who teaches spikes up at any player. Those spikes that were showing when he slid are supposed to hit the goddamned bag. Maybe the base is to big a target for that moron if he thinks that his slide wasn't dirty. As much as people on both sides want to whine about what happened last night there has to be some sort of retaliation for that s***. Now if he is trying a hook slide , which he wasn't, different story. A hook slide would have had that lead leg a lot closer to the mound and a lot farther away from Holt. Anyone who thinks that slide was ok is a moron. I'm on a rant but it does piss me off. Now MVP - you know that I'm not talking about you because you get it.
  3. Who is doing that? Is there anyone here at all who doesn't understand that right now JBJ is the best we got in centerfield? A lengthy heartfelt post for sure but almost everybody understands this. It is a classic moot point right now. I also don't think that there a real Red Sox fan (emphasis on the word real) who isn't really pulling for JBJ everytime he has a bat in his hands. Also, not to be contrary but I would have to say that Fred Lynn is the best cf that I have seen in a sox uniform. Certainly no question when it comes to hitting. You don't win an MVP and a Rookie of the Year award without being pretty damn good.
  4. Once again as does happen from time to time, in an effort to keep everyone safe, a rule was created that might tend to cause even more harm. If a runner wants to break up a double play, what is he supposed to do. This rule if not enforced may even encourage more runners to go into bases this way. On the other hand, if middle infielders feel protected from take out slides will they continue to be taught how to get the hell out of the way when a guy is bearing down on them. I'm not in favor of doing anything that intentionally hurts anyone but you can't have a rule for everything I'm afraid.
  5. Now I know we have run across each other. there can't be that many of us in Maine.
  6. I'm sensitive harmony don't go trying to make me feel bad. lol I know that you have been posting here for a while so I'm pretty sure that you know that I don't even register on the scale of personal attacks compared to many whom I will not name but certainly can. I've been the victim once or twice myself. I'm ok with you but I am still waiting for a real baseball person to tell me why my thinking about what the correct way to slide into any base is. Maybe I was wasting my time in the gym during pre-season teaching kids the various ways to slide into any base. Maybe it was just wrong info that I was giving out.
  7. Don't you live up in the Bangor area? No way he finds you up there if you don't want to be found. lol
  8. Ok - the game has changed I get that - but that was a bent legged f***ing slide into second base and that type of slide is never intended to go over the bag.
  9. What you think Brockie called him a bad name? What Brock Holt said has 0 to do with Austin's slide being dirty or not. Maybe you can teach me something about baseball here. I've told you why that slide was indeed a dirty slide. You get to tell me why it wasn't. the only justification I can think of for him coming into second this way would be : 1. He is stupid 2. He hasn't been taught how to slide - not likely but you never know or 3. He doesn't like the rule - I don't either so I'm ok with this one.
  10. For me I guess so - I'm not very smart. Sorry jad if you were just trying to lighten things up - I'm still pissed about that slide and yes I do think that if the rule had not been changed, Austin's next slide into second base would have been one helluva lot closer to the ground or he would have been eating the ball.
  11. My guess is this - Austin's reaction caught Vazquez by surprise. Next time and I think there likely will be next time, Vazquez will show up big time.
  12. Where is this coming from? Anybody even come close to suggesting that?
  13. It's supposed to be a pop up slide. Lead foot hits the bag momentum allows you to pop up. Believe it or not you just aren't supposed to slide through the bag with your spikes up.
  14. Ive been spiked at second base. Saying that Holt over reacted to being spiked on a slide where the lead league did not come close to touching the bag, causes you to lose credibility here with me. Most of us here, although I think that is becoming more and more obvious that some did not, have actually played the game and have been coached. Some of us here have coached. If you honestly think that the position of Austin's foot was where it should be then I'm sorry but you don't know nearly as much about the game of baseball as you try to make people believe you do. Austin probably is a fairly lucky guy because if the rule had not been changed the method of defense used the next time he slid into second base possibly would have seen him catching a ball squarely in his face. Old School I guess in this day and age but it worked.
  15. I agree with Remy on this one - I don't like the rule. I was a second baseman and had to learn the hard way to get the hell out of the way. I would never defend a spikes up slide where that lead foot is not moving to the bag in any way. I don't know if Austin was literally trying to spike him or not but he was trying to break up a double play. I think that the rule and the way I guess that it is interpreted is going to lead to more slides like this. If you are a second baseman or a ss and you don't have to get off the bag, that is a pretty good deal.
  16. It isn't so much about hitting guys or fighting in general it's about being a team made up of guys who support each other. No more - "It wasn't me" crap I guess. I hope that Joe Kelly showed people what I guess he is actually made of last night. He didn't run! I'm 100% in.
  17. Oh man - I am old - fell asleep again last night but hard to imagine that anyone would think that Johnson was going to resurface again tonight. After Price went down, it might even be possible that Cora realized that he has to use him as a starter for a while. lol People just find new ways to continually bitch and moan about anything. My only gripe about last night was Vazquez. I watched the replay many times and I guess each time I expected him to make a more aggressive move to keep Austin form getting to kelly. Although maybe he had a hunch what might happen to Austin when he got there. lol again
  18. Wow Harmony - How much courage does it take to spike a guy at second base who is half your size? It's the way the game has been played since it was created. Plus - that is Kelly's change up.
  19. You can't be serious. What part of "it's not the size of the dog that's in the fight, it's the size of the fight that's in the dog" do you not understand? Looks to me by the way they some of the "bruisers" behaved in this one that I would take Joe Kelly over any one of your big boys.
  20. Not too of a play for a stiff out there. lol
  21. And and and come on - He got a hit last night.
  22. Hey come on everybody - Rest day for Beni I guess and guess who is in left field? I bet you guessed.
  23. lol - We should be 10 and 0 right. That should be reason enough to bitch and moan a little right there.
