    I agree with you here for sure notin. You have to get to the post season before you can win the post season. Normal people don't place a tremendous amount of value on simple post season stats I hope. Think that I would take a big dose of Chris Sale anytime. I could care less about just his post season stats.

    It probably is a very sensitive subject with some here notin but I do think that this team does have some concern for the types of players that they bring in. I've been really pleased overall with the guys that they have brought in from a character perspective. I know that some people might bring up Price's name to contradict what I have said. I'm not one of those guys. By all accounts, he is a good teammate and he wants to win.

    We lived through it SS. Anybody who says that that was a bad trade is one of the following two - 1. full of ******** (quite likely) or 2. Trying to impress people by pretending they know something that others didn't know (which happens all the time)

    Only the psychic reader here in town could have predicted Jeff Bagwell to have the career that he had. In hindsight, like so many others, it looks like a bad trade. At the time, it looked like a good strong move.

    Looking back at things, I'm sure you would get agreement from some here. I would say that not in my wildest dreams, as badly has he has looked on occasion, I would never thought that JBJ would have looked as bad at the plate as he does right now. I also think that Puig might be the type of player management really wants to stay away from.

    I agree with you. I also thought that that was a strange lineup to yard out there. Glad I didn't have a ticket for that one.

    That is your opinion. It is a good one. I tend to think that if JD feels that playing in the outfield from time to time keeps him actively involved in the game which he thinks makes him a better hitter, IMO that is the way it should be done. They run the risk of being injured everytime they take the field.

    I've been watching JD play all season just like the rest of you. Calling him a stickman in the outfield along with the other terms used to describe him out there is ridiculous. Just admitting that he ain't that bad would be good for starters. No one needs to justify the early season criticism of him by doing that now that we have gotten into the season. the picture painted by past years statistics are just proving to be wrong. Simple as that. Oh by the way I'm betting that he could give a s*** about what any of his critics here think of his fielding abilities. He is doing the job.

    Ok - i've thought about this a lot. I think the world of Mookie like all of us do. The but here is that he isn't really a particularly big guy for what he gets out of his game. I think that he like Pedroia stretches his body to an extreme overtime he plays the game. It is great for sure but it might not spell longevity. he can't help us much unless he is able to play. Not sure I'd look ultra long term.

    I absolutely agree. Having him at third and hitting where he hits, is a plus for us going forward not a problem. Just gives some folks something to talk about.

    I know exactly what you meant. My comment was meant for the saber metric folks here who will try to give him just a little credit for doing a good job by calling it "serviceable".

    One thing that has kind of gone under the radar is that lately he has been fielding his position pretty well. He has made 11 errors to date I think. When was his last one? He is our third baseman. I think that he will be just fine.

    For sure - maybe the extra work he put in while in Houston really did help. I hope he keeps it up.

    seviceable - What exactly does that mean? No one is saying that he is a gold glover out there but in my world serviceable isn't much of a compliment. He is better than that and it is ok if people can say that maybe the "metrics" were misleading. It isn't always about what you have done in the past, it is about what you are dong right now. He will sit again when Mookie returns and that is ok. As for the statistics/sabermetrics point of view: JD is currently batting third - Cora uses the hit and run - Our guys aren't opposed to stealing bases. Does Cora just not get it or what? The approach to the game has changed and saber metrics have contributed to some of those changes. I believe in their use but I also think that some traditional approaches to the game are just as valuable.

    The constant comments telling us how lousy he is out there have stopped flooding in. He has done a very good job.

    There have been a couple here who have mentioned Barnes throwing at Machado's head. You have no idea what spot Barnes was trying to hit. I wouldn't be so quick to assume something like this. I felt at the time the wrong guy was being asked to throw at someone anyway. I would have liked to have seen someone with a little more experience doing that job if in fact the intention was to hit him at all. Don't ask a youngster to do a big boy's job.

    Ok Max - How many posters here are actually crying over Swihart not being our starting catcher? 1 maybe 2 you think. You really are starting to make this sound as though anyone who supports Swihart must think that he should be a starter for this team. I don't get the sense that that is the case at all. Some of us would just like to see this kid get a little more of a chance than he already has.

    We are not going to find out what Swihart has until he gets regular at bats. Every third, fourth, or fifth day isn't going to get it done. I feel really bad for the kid. if the goal is to trade him, he is going to have to play to show people that he can in fact play. Hanging on to him just for security purposes kind of sucks for him. I wish that they would release or trade this kid if they are not going to play him. If he was given or had been given the same opportunities that Ramirez was given this spring, we might all have been surprised by what he could do. Just hanging on to him looks kind of sad to me.

    Hanley was released for a number of reasons. Some being more important than others. I don't think the owners of this franchise owe any fan any explanation for what they did in this case. When the local store stops selling products that I like, I pretty much have to go to another store to get what I need. They don't ask for my input. Cora and DD gave an explanation because that seems to be what everybody has to do these days.

    If they had been perfectly truthful, they would have said the vesting option was a factor for sure. I bet they thought we could figure that one out though on our own.

    Could be over the top Max - it is just my opinion. I would be willing to bet a bit though that if he had the same number of at bats as the rest of the non-hitters, yes I think that he would outhit them. For me to make this statement is not over the top Max. I'm pretty sure that you are familiar with the expression "tighter than the bark on a tree" - that is me.
