  1. Count me in as not a fan of instant replay as it is currently used. I realize that there has been importance placed on "getting it right" but I think that it is being overdone. I get it being used on the obvious but on the quick hitting bang bang plays, I like the concept of the human umpire element being used. Still a great game but I liked it better without the replay interruptions. Not to mention the fact that I always liked those pleasant little interactions between umpires and managers.
  2. I just can't believe that he hasn't been signed by someone by now. LOL
  3. good to see him back and throwing well
  4. there probably would even be a few here who would think that they could compete with him intellectually as well.
  5. but - do two negatives make a positive?
  6. Plus the fact what in the hell are you doing arguing with him anyway?
  7. It is not my money that is pretty much how I can make it through the day without worrying about needless little s*** like this. You have to get to the big dance before you can win it. Having Sale and a healthy Price at the top of our rotation gives us a good chance to get there. That works for me and probably the majority of people who have ever been involved with the game at any level.
  8. Mookie Betts is one of the great players that we have seen in a Red Sox uniform. To this point he has proven to be fairly durable as well. Going forward though what are we going to get? I would not rush to sign him up to a 10 year 290 to 300 million dollar contract. He is 5"9" and might weigh 175. He plays the game easily as hard as Pedroia in every way. He runs, he dives, and he literally rips that ball with that body. he never takes a play off. Bigger players expend less energy and less effort to get the job done. It is a simple fact of life. it is little wonder that he rips his abs evertime that he swings. he is a great player and personally if I was John Henry I would have no trouble signing him for whatever simply because to our owner the money really doesn't matter all that much. But for all of you folks that are truly concerned over the way Mr. Henry spends his loot, you might want to stutter just a bit before signing him up long term. Currently he is as good as there is. How about 5 years from now?
  9. My goodness, what has happened to you? lol For the record, of course i agree with you. double lol
  10. pontificsting ad nausem - really? Yes I think that Natick to NC is for sure over the top but no denying that he is a Boston fan. I get that. Reading between the lines tells me that he is about team which I absolutely understand. Like what he says or not, he does speak in a language that the majority of fans do understand. I understand that he gets under your skin. I'm pretty sure that you aren't alone but I think simply assuming that he is some kind of boob might be a mistake.
  11. I wonder why people judge trades that way? There are some obvious trades and "getaways" that have happened but I have always just kind of looked at trades and acquisitions as part of the gig moving forward. Have to say that I hate getting caught up in the GM speculations that are so debated here. It is easy to do but trying to read things in to what a GM is thinking and trying to assess what they think of how to build a team is just an opportunity for people to try to convince others of things that they really can only guess at. Oh by the way, Ben does get beaten up on here but he is in very good company with the rest of the guys. I guess the big question that I always had about him was was he ready for a job of this magnitude. He had his chance and he is now gone. But what do I know about it? really not much I guess - I was a fan of Duquettes and feel that in the world of "hindsight" he has always been under appreciated.
  12. lol - good post - you kept within the theme of the numbskull never going to happen trade theme.
  13. What makes you think that JBJ and a no name would get that trade done? Scooter should be an All Star.
  14. I agree with you here for sure notin. You have to get to the post season before you can win the post season. Normal people don't place a tremendous amount of value on simple post season stats I hope. Think that I would take a big dose of Chris Sale anytime. I could care less about just his post season stats.
  15. It probably is a very sensitive subject with some here notin but I do think that this team does have some concern for the types of players that they bring in. I've been really pleased overall with the guys that they have brought in from a character perspective. I know that some people might bring up Price's name to contradict what I have said. I'm not one of those guys. By all accounts, he is a good teammate and he wants to win.
  16. We lived through it SS. Anybody who says that that was a bad trade is one of the following two - 1. full of ******** (quite likely) or 2. Trying to impress people by pretending they know something that others didn't know (which happens all the time)
  17. Only the psychic reader here in town could have predicted Jeff Bagwell to have the career that he had. In hindsight, like so many others, it looks like a bad trade. At the time, it looked like a good strong move.
  18. Looking back at things, I'm sure you would get agreement from some here. I would say that not in my wildest dreams, as badly has he has looked on occasion, I would never thought that JBJ would have looked as bad at the plate as he does right now. I also think that Puig might be the type of player management really wants to stay away from.
  19. I agree with you. I also thought that that was a strange lineup to yard out there. Glad I didn't have a ticket for that one.
  20. That is your opinion. It is a good one. I tend to think that if JD feels that playing in the outfield from time to time keeps him actively involved in the game which he thinks makes him a better hitter, IMO that is the way it should be done. They run the risk of being injured everytime they take the field.
  21. I've been watching JD play all season just like the rest of you. Calling him a stickman in the outfield along with the other terms used to describe him out there is ridiculous. Just admitting that he ain't that bad would be good for starters. No one needs to justify the early season criticism of him by doing that now that we have gotten into the season. the picture painted by past years statistics are just proving to be wrong. Simple as that. Oh by the way I'm betting that he could give a s*** about what any of his critics here think of his fielding abilities. He is doing the job.
  22. Ok - i've thought about this a lot. I think the world of Mookie like all of us do. The but here is that he isn't really a particularly big guy for what he gets out of his game. I think that he like Pedroia stretches his body to an extreme overtime he plays the game. It is great for sure but it might not spell longevity. he can't help us much unless he is able to play. Not sure I'd look ultra long term.
  23. I absolutely agree. Having him at third and hitting where he hits, is a plus for us going forward not a problem. Just gives some folks something to talk about.
  24. I know exactly what you meant. My comment was meant for the saber metric folks here who will try to give him just a little credit for doing a good job by calling it "serviceable".
