  1. 8 th most productive player??? He was desperately looking for his contract...the multi year one. Will he perform this year, knowing that the Sox did not want him for more than one year and offered him that "disrespectful" 12 mill+ offer? If he sulks, he doesn't hit; they go together
  2. I am very worried about the left side of the plate......Scutero did his job and played even when he was injured...now we have a platoon there? Hopefully Youk is in great shape, but we don't know and finally what is happening in LF with Crowford out---not that he was fabulous there last year??
  3. They supposedly have been dating for a year....I give them credit for keeping it so low-keyed that the media vultures didn't get a hold of it until they announced the engagement. She and her 5 year old daughter are moving to FL for ST and will marry after the season
  4. Should we read between the lines here? Merloni said that Ortiz is the worst player to go into arbitration. He said that DO is so sensitive and emotional that to hear the Sox lay out the reasons why he shouldn't get 16M will be detrimental to him. "Even if he wins, he's going to leave there with different feelings."
  5. GLOBE mentons today that Lester and Dice K are already in camp along with some lesser name pitchers. Lester looks good and sounds positive although he is barred from having much media contact until the "official" event on the 19th GLOBE did remind us that Lester was among the first "players who addressed" the beer/chicken situation last year.
  6. Do you really think Ortiz personally "makes" them money. I figure people come to see the team play....he is ONE member of the team.
  7. Female patients must just love him....since the post is that of a sexist pig
  8. Is this all first hand knowledge??
  9. Going into next week we see the potential for the hearing. According to the GLOBE, Ortiz wants two years....so how about 2 years for 16+m....that would seem pretty generous to me.
  10. I enjoyed watching CC play for TB, so I liked him when he came to Boston. I thought the salary was ridiculous and was annoyed at TE for spending so much for a negative reason. I figured he was embarrassed at the number of SB CC had against Boston and preferred that he play for Boston rather than against them.
  11. Somebody in Ny must think the Yankee pitching staff can work well with him...they have had some success with some younger pitchers...not so much with overpaid whatevers like Burnett
  12. But nobody really knows what the problem was in the clubhouse....a few hinted, but nobody has come out said the issues. Youk made as general comment last week after his fundraiser, but that too was vague. From what has been hinted: 1st base: a bit of holier than thou...some complaints about playing too many games on Sunday night--leadership?? not so much 2nd base: a dirt dog who worked hard but was looked at as Francona's boy so even though too many people are saying he should be captain, he didn't have those skills SS: he played and minded his own business 3rd base: injuries and exhaustion got him down. Whether or not his comments about the CF being weak ( along with DP's comments) the previous year caused a problem, we don't know. But no leadership here. Dh: self centered and no leadership LF: made too much money with no production so he may have been part of the problem. Supposedly, there were comments about both from other players. ( i have no link, but just recall that was mentioned by some writer) CF: he was playing his own game to get back his reputation...but there may have been some resentment between him and other players from the previous year RF: what can you say?? pitching staff...we heard about that after the season was over catchers: one was new and trying to keep his job and JV did not do his job as captain..he has to take some responsibility for the mess in not stopping it Francona---did not or could not stop the problems because of his own problems----many have been mentioned..pain, ill health, marriage?? Zipped up my flameproof suit...opinions??
  13. Jeez...I think we all knew that.
  14. No surprise there. I remember talking about this when the ugly story broke and saying that he would not last long. Lke when a spouse dies, the mate is often not far behind. Having been split from his beloved college, it figured the end would come quickly.
  15. The word "Classy " is subjective.....how and why he decided to retire is known only to JP.....but at least he did make the decision rather quickly ( this year) ...although he did stay around one year too many.
  16. Ah, the pinching pennies continues....got to come up with that big money for Ortiz at the expense of pitching. The RS and Rockies each pulled out of a deal that would have sent Scutero to the Rockies ...apparently just to save Boston $6 mil. According to BigBen it was a money thing. They figured they had Aviles, Punto or Iglesias...but really none of them would work out as the regular ss.
  17. Story in the GLOBE this morning about coming up with the money to do somethng with the pitching rotation. According to BigBen, they have their solid three- JB, CB and JL. Even though CB made only a few starting appearances going out in June with is back, they have penciled him in for a definite. Bard and Aceves will be the potential other 2. I know this all makes me feel so secure with the pitching....but Big David will be on the field making at least a dozen million and that will be enough to get us to the WS
  18. My info on arbitration is also minimal. I have been calling him the $14 mil man figuring that they would settle somewhere in the middle. Regardless to me, even $12 mil is too much and I think he should have been set free to find glory with other teams. His time has passed. Thanks so much but it is time for us to all move on.
  19. This one might have to go to arbitration. Ortiz wants $16+ mil and the RS are offering $12+mil. If Ortiz came through in Sept and turned the team around and they won, then he really could write his own ticket...he didn't so all this crap about how valuable he was in the past....is just that-- "in the past". He didn't come through as clutch when he was needed, so there is no reason to pay a part time player that ridiculous amount of money, and ridicuous is the operative word here. I will set the timer to see how fast somebody comes on with "if we don't pay him, then the Yankees ( or whoever) will'. Didn't we learn our lesson with CC? Theo was so ashamed of how many bases CC stole against the RS bad catching, he paid him anything to come to the RS...and we know how that worked out. You deal out of fear, you get a fearfully bad deal.
