  1. But as fans we're programmed to be optimistic.
  2. I think the reeling is coming from above Cora's head. He's being made to look ridiculous by things like the Bear Claw game. Not really his fault our pitching has collapsed.
  3. Yankees are having a disastrous season, but I'd say they're an excellent bet to finish ahead of the Sox. Maybe by a comfortable margin.
  4. Hey, I wasn't the one who said they could be good depth options for 2023...
  5. He knows how to keep a low profile. No one will be surprised if he has to miss the next Winter Weekend due to an unspecified health issue.
  6. That fact was simply too obvious for Henry. The moment when he decided to give up on keeping Betts may be looked back on as his moment of fatal hubris. Maybe he figured the fact he'd produced 4 rings with a changing cast of CBO's and managers showed that he was the real brains behind it all and he could do anything, including dump a Hall of Famer in his prime.
  7. Cora's biggest job over the next month is to protect the long-term health of his pitchers. He's being asked to be a medical professional.
  8. I don't think Cora will walk. I'm sure he's making a good salary and probably still likes his job for the most part. I'm hopeful they won't can him, but everything is on the table with this fustercluck of an organization now.
  9. Let's face it, the Sox front office has been insulting the crap out of us. Added nothing but Kluber, so nothing, to our razor-thin pitching rotation. Slid down to middle of the pack in payroll and left a wad of unspent money under the tax threshold, while raising ticket prices. Did jacksquat at the deadline again. Pretty incredible, really.
  10. The players haven't said anything, but Cora has taken a few subtle swipes at the work of the front office this year, for which he may well be rewarded with a pink slip. They might look for some hyper-analytical automaton type manager instead.
  11. Do you think it's unfair to suggest that maybe all of the contracts of Devers, Story and Yoshida will be bad ones? I like Raffy a lot, trust me. But it's hard to dispute that they gave the big money to the wrong guy (instead of Betts).
  12. Walter AKA Next Sacrificial Lamb in Line I still remember at the start of the season when we thought we had some depth in guys like Mata, Walter and Murphy. Good times.
  13. There wasn't much left by the time we signed Kluber. We were so desperate by then that we had to like it.
  14. I have no faith in Bloom whatsoever any more as far as his ability to construct a major league team. I still have hope, but that's a much different thing. It's a fan's job to have hope. With no hope you'd just stop watching and stop caring. The 2023 team had some good moments but it's obvious now it's going to end very badly. The pitching staff is in tatters, thanks to Bloom's lack of effort to improve it. Hard to see how we're going to win many games this month. Totally embarrassing, and most of the blame has to go to Bloom, with the rest of it going to Henry.
  15. Senga has had a pretty decent season for the Mets. Another of those medium range SP contracts that the Sox would have benefited from.
  16. Over his career, Chapman has averaged 4.77 fWAR per 150 games. He hasn't had a bad season yet and he's been very durable.
  17. I'm siding with notin on the solution to our lineup and defense. Chapman 3B Raffy 1B Casas DH Yoshida LF
  18. Sign Matt Chapman, sign Yamamoto, and Nola/Snell or another starter. And a reliever. Houck and Crawford back to the pen. Then you have a chance to be a good team.
  19. Why, because Cora disciplined him for not hustling and for being late?
  20. His skillset is a little lacking IMO. He's not a home run hitter and he's glacially slow.
  21. Everything's gonna be better, I know, I know...
  22. Even Bloom and his spreadsheet guys must be looking at this and thinking, "Holy s***, what a mess."
  23. Next year the total AAV for Devers, Story and Yoshida is 72.7 million. Hopefully they will improve on their 2023 collective fWAR of 3.1...
  24. Yeah, Yoshida is pretty much a sunk cost for 2024...
  25. Babe Ruth July 1923: 31 games 460/571/865 1436 OPS 10 HR 27 RBI 36 R 96 TB
