Should have been clearer - the Dodgers played him there some after trading for him in 2023. Why would you do that if he's a butcher at the position? Isn't it more likely he was suffering from a case of the yips which could be short-term or not?

I think it was mainly about trying to keep Kike's bat in the lineup. Also, didn't Kike play some SS with the Dodgers? Wouldn't they be out of their minds to do that if he was hopeless at the position?

I think Cora is a lot like Francona. Tito was also accused of sticking with guys too long. I especially remember him taking abuse for sticking with Millar in 2005. He even got ragged for sticking with Ortiz when Papi had that vicious slump in 2009.

I don't disagree, but the messaging was totally the opposite. From a PR perspective they continue to look like buffoons. Why not just retain Bloom if we're still being patient? Obviously some guys, like Dombrowski, can walk in and start making deals left and right...

We'd probably agree, though, that it mattered a lot to the Dodgers to be able to negotiate with Mookie for the better part of a year before he became a free agent.

The free comes from "free agency". There is a difference between the two situations, even if the results look the same.

Breslow has already said he doesn't like having a full time DH, so he's stupid too. And Bloom was the stupidest of all, paying $105 million for a guy who should be a DH but was penciled in as a left fielder instead...

You don't see many young full time DH's. Not sure why that is or if it makes any baseball sense or not...

Sports teams are kind of unique businesses, though. Some of the losing teams make a pile more money than some of the winning teams. Have the last two 78 win seasons hurt the Sox bottom line or market value? Only the accountants know for sure.

It's almost like there should be a special category for free agents who re-sign with the same team. Just need a catchy name for it.
