  1. Just one in a series of horrible moves in those days, as all us old-timers recall so well.
  2. Yeah, I was only in my teens back then, but I can distinctly remember thinking 'Umm...why did they trade Reggie Smith?' And a couple years later 'Umm...why did they trade Cecil Cooper?'
  3. Perhaps it's because what fans remember most is being pissed about him being traded in his prime.
  4. It's not inconceivable that the loss of Vazquez will cost us a couple of wins over the season. The difference may be in the pitchers' numbers rather than any catching metrics.
  5. I think there is some merit in your point, but I think you might also be overplaying it a bit. The impact of a great defensive catcher is still a hard thing to measure.
  6. Losing Vazquez does hurt. It may take a while to find out how much.
  7. Games played: 2009 90 2010 70 2011 91 2012 112 2013 75 2014 84 2012 looks like the outlier there, I'm guessing because of injury to the other catcher. Take that out and the decline is pretty marginal. The caught stealing decline is a legit issue, I'll have to have a closer look at that.
  8. Everything I've read about Hanigan says he's a very good to excellent defensive catcher. Where do you get that he's declining defensively? Do you have any facts or quotes on that?
  9. Based on what exactly do you think Hanigan and Leon won't be good in the run prevention area?
  10. Sox have acquired 26-year old catcher Sandy Leon from Washington. Can't hit but strong defensively, threw out 45% of base stealers in minors.
  11. Well, their thinking might have something to do with the fact that Buchholz is in the last year of a 5-year contract carrying a modest $6.1 million AAV, with 2016 and 2017 under their control at $13 million team options with tiny buyouts, as opposed to the $120 million we've theorized they could have retained Lester for.
  12. Although, as we all recall , the pen was lights out in the postseason.
  13. Vazquez is going to see Dr. James Andrews. Sounds like TJ surgery and see you in 2016. Also looks like Mujica is our Opening Day closer.
  14. It's a significant worry now, absolutely.
  15. LOL, it's true. Fred is practically in the 'voice of reason' category lately.
  16. There is no Betts problem. Victorino is the odd man out. The guy who is signed for one more year and has big trouble staying on the field.
  17. Sure, I'll mark down that you've lost your marbles.
  18. I know it's only spring training, but it's almost comical the way Mookie is raking.
  19. Vic staying healthy in 2015 is pure fantasy. Even in 2013 he only started 117 regular season games and also missed a couple in the postseason. Now he's 2 years older coming off surgery.
  20. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big Napoli fan. Just pointing out one possible avenue for Craig - also of course a way to make some payroll room for 2016.
  21. If Craig gets his game back, and they don't trade him, he could be a perfect replacement for Napoli next year.
  22. I will gladly bet that Nava is neither traded nor DFA'd. But a case of beer? Delivery would be the issue.
  23. The one injury-plagued season makes him a stiff?
  24. Nava isn't getting DFA'd. Castillo starts in AAA. That's my prediction at least. They would trade Nava rather than DFA him anyway.
