  1. This is why we need guys like you and 700hitter and iortiz going to those spring games!
  2. $34M X 11 = $375 million Somewhere in Connecticut, a math teacher is shuddering.
  3. The craziest part is that teams can actually afford to take on contracts like this and still make money.
  4. It doesn't affect the 2019 payroll for tax purposes - it defers it all into 2020 and future years.
  5. With Vazquez catching Sale's first ST start, and with Vazquez taking over the reins last postseason, I do have a suspicion that Cora would be OK with Leon being the guy that's moved.
  6. The thing is, Sale will either agree to an extension before the season or he'll take it to free agency. All you can hope is that a) those concerning factors knock down his price some; and the Sox are right when they say he's physically sound.
  7. I think Cora may be making the call on this. As we have seen he's a firm believer in erring on the side of caution. And this is, needless to say, a critical juncture in Pedroia's career.
  8. Or they haven't been able to get anything of value in return.
  9. The truth is you're a troll, always have been, always will be.
  10. Wow, great comeback!
  11. LOL you're the king of posting articles like this here.
  12. Not me. I have actually boycotted US college sports. The money and the corruption have turned them into a debacle in my view.
  13. Belichick is amazing, but football is a whole different game. He might not necessarily be a good baseball GM. Even the best baseball GM's, like Theo, make very expensive mistakes because player performances are much harder to project.
  14. The fact is we have produced hardly any pitchers of Sale's caliber in the entire history of the franchise. That's why he commands such a premium price. Obviously you have to do your due diligence on the health of his arm. The team knows more about that than any of us do.
  15. On Opening Day 2020 Sale will be about 5 months older than Price was on O. D. 2016, so it's not a terrible comp. I would say Sale would not be unhappy to get 6 years, especially since it's an extension relieving him of risk. He might accept a 5 year extension with a higher AAV, but it's got to be one of the two, I think.
  16. Jagger Stone Rusconi (appearing in some spring games for the Sox)
  17. Well, I think he's clearly right that the 2019 Eovaldi should be an upgrade over the 2018 Pomeranz. Should only implies probability.
  18. I tried too.
  19. Take it. I guess it would just be more palatable if the comp wasn't a player we know bombed out spectacularly at a relatively young age...
  20. For his career Middlebrooks had a K/BB ratio of about 5 to 1. That's death. JBJ is more like 3 to 1. Not great but not death.
  21. K/BB not straight K.
  22. Joe Brady on BDC educated me in the importance of K/BB ratio. He said Middlebrooks's ratio pointed to failure.
  23. I'm just giving you a little 'heat', harmony.
  24. I hear you. It might still happen, who knows?
  25. Right, but the JDM thing had nothing to do with WAR and projections. It just irked him the way we were taking for granted that JDM was going to sign with us eventually. It's understandable that a non-Red Sox fan would feel like that. We have gotten a little cocky with our success and our free-spending owner.
