1. Yankees need to fix their bullpen. It did f*** up the first game of the season for 'em.
2. If he's had issues with the same thumb for 18 months and he had the stellar season he had with it, why should he be?
3. And a grand total of one game has been played. DISMANTLE THE TEAM!
4. One "blew" 11 games. One "blew" less than 5. The "my eyes" is the problem here. Personal experience is biased. Also, how can they be "equally effective" when one is clearly superior statistically to the other?
5. My point of contention is with "gets the job done". If you screw up ten games one way or another, then you're not really "getting the job done" so frequently. Also, thinking that closers are only there to protect leads in the ninth is a common misconception. They are supposed to be the best pitcher in the bullpen who not only preserves leads, but also preserve ties and get out of jams left by lesser relievers, two things Valverde is absolutely awful at.
6. You do know that Valverde lost 4 games last year and in at least three more games let the go-ahead run score after entering a tie game and had to be bailed out by the offense? That is also part of the definition of "blown games" by a closer. In fact, one of those games he blew last year was to the Red Sox, when Ortiz hit a HR off him in a tie ballgame for the go-ahead run. Remember it like it was yesterday. Valverde is simply not that good. He's good, and lucky. But not as good as you portray him.
7. Exactly. He says a lot of things that just don't make any sense. A manager is an employee of the FO, and even the best like LaRussa have been known to bend to certain FO demands.
8. This is fabrication. It's been widely reported by credible sources that the one who began the push to become a starter was Bard himself, and no mention of him wanting to close has ever been made.
9. Really? I thought the bullpen was officially s*** after today. You know, game 1 of 162.
10. At the end of the season, the Red Sox BP will rank no lower than sixth in ERA and WHIP.
11. Not my work though. ORS created it. I simply remembered RSFFL posting it in the "Thread which shall remain nameless" and copied it from there.
12.
Topic|Team|Content Prospect|Yankees|The player in question is made of 150% pure awesomeness. Fear us. Prospect|Sox|He could be good, but this is why he won't be. Signing|Yankees|This is the missing piece. We'll win 160 games, and the umps will screw us out of 2. Signing|Sox|Risky move, overpaid here, they'll regret this. Injury|Yankees|They don't get hurt. Hypothetically, if they did, the recovery will be speedy with no impact to ability. Injury|Sox|Everyone is a ticking time bomb. Once hurt, they'll never heal right.
You're welcome.
13. ....or a700 has an obsession with UN?.
14. ^I could not be less surprised. Dogs bark, cats meow, cows moo, and a700 bitches about the FO using the amazing power of hindsight.
15. Moving bad to start in the middle of the season without any prior preparation? That may be the single dumbest thing i have ever read. That would have ruined the kid for sure.
16. Because they thought it would get better on its own? Not enough is specified to come to a conclusion. That article's way too vague.
17. Cover for what? He barely did anything There wasn't enough space for him to execute an actual plan, which has been my point all along.
18. Bard was the one who pined for the starter's job. He told the FO he wanted to start as soon as the season ended.
19. The funny thing is that i quoted "the expert writers" in an attempt to use the own ammo of people who take them as gospel against them. He has me on ignore so he only reads some of the things i post, but obviously can't keep his big mouth shut about me.
20. What are you seeing exactly is my question? What's the basis for your judgment? The couple bucks the FO left the guy to spend? The bloated payroll? Limited roster options? Try being a little rational, for once. When we see a full season/offseason where he can freely execute a game plan, i'll pass judgment, and if he sucks, i'll be the first one calling for his head. But of course, i'd rather take my time and come up with some informed criticism instead of ranting like a lunatic.
21. Maybe he'll be a closer/relief ace, and they'll use him to pitch multiple inning save situations three or four times a week.
22. Multi-innings closer? Valentine must be overflowing with happiness.
