  1. Which is why i clearly said in the above post "let's see what happens the rest of the year".
  2. It was a legitimate question, and i actually thought you were going to respond with a resounding "yes".
  3. Year 2: Bailey (biceps soreness aside) has been one of the best relievers in all of baseball, while Reddick hits .140 with no power (albeit improved plate discipline), and is hitting 7th for the A's. Let's see what happens the rest of the year.
  4. Let me guess: You're too lazy to take a stand on either side of the argument?
  5. Specially since they spend the first six years of their career making, on average, below what the open market would pay them, and you never know when injury/ineffectiveness may hamper a players ability to make money after the big payday.
  6. So if you got two job offers, one paying 100 K a year and the other paying 120 doing the exact same thing, you wouldn't take the bigger offer because "20 k doesn't make your life that much better?". That is failthought. First off, it's not necessarily the salary, but the prestige and respect that comes with making money. And there's the fact that it's a $20 million dollar difference. Are you people serious? Sometimes a player will bypass the extra money if they really like a place (Lee, Teixeira) but Ellsbury owes nothing to the Boston Red Sox. If he really likes the place, he'll find a way to stay, but let's not pretend that in most circumstances you wouldn't take the paycheck that's twenty million bigger too.
  7. For pllayers it's about respect, and of course, the money itself. You are supremely naive if you can't see why someone would want an extra 20 million.
  8. It is, but at mid-season Lee would still be a 10 + mill cap hit.
  9. 5-4 Sox on a nailbiter.
  10. This couldn't be farther from the truth, like almost everything else you ever post.
  11. The upgrade would be marginal considering the cost. Lee is better, but not that much better than Lester to justify replacing one with the other paying Lee 10 million more. You'd probably say "but we get prospects back for Lester" which is true, but we'd also have to give up prospects to get Lee, essentially negating the gain. It doesn't make sense.
  12. 5-3 Red Sox. Texas' BP isn't that good this year aside from early season numbers
  13. In all fairness, they probably know more about baseball than you or i do, having played professionally and all. The problem is that they're sore losers and they're pissed that Buchholz is owning them hard.
  14. I don't quite think you understand what i was trying to say. Maybe if you let go of some that anger stemming from your passion for your crusade defending Salty, you'd notice i was actually trying to defend the guy, and this was just a follow up to the post in which i was doing so. Chill out.
  15. You can't just "remove games from the sample though". You can acknowledge the caveat, but te numbers are what they are.
  16. Overall increase in revenue numbers can also be attributed to an inflation/cost increase. They are raking in more money by the numbers, but is the actual gain higher relative to, say, 20 years ago? With the ascension of football, i doubt it.
  17. Didn't Salty catch both of Aceves' meltdowns though? Because that's all on him, not the catcher.
  18. This is ironically delicious, seeing how you're always complaining like a little bitch about "personal attacks". I made the comment that the nickname is dumb and Dempster's been good, and you respond with this kind of attack. Who's the jackass?
  19. 2008. Sox won their 20th game May 4th of that year.
  20. No one clamored for Dempster to be signed, but when he was signed, only a handful of people went out of their way to give the guy that stupid nickname. So since he doesn't suck, maybe something more apropos should be used for his nickname, no?
  21. ....then quoting him all over the place so Fred can see what he's posting and then wonder why a shitstorm ensued.
  22. It was already reported that it's a "minor" bicep injury. But since it's Bailey, they're giving him some time off as to ensure that little bicep complication doesn't turn into his arm falling off while he's unzipping to pee.
  23. Eck tellls Jack Morris to zip it with Buch accusations since he can't even make the HOF This is golden.
  24. What's with all the friggin' conspiracy theories? It's a baseball team, not f***in' area 51. We should know by firsthand experience how fragile Bailey is.
