  1. Timely hitting is not a skill you have any real control over. Good pitching is, and Beckett's oblique issues certainly impacted the series.
  2. Hey, i've seen horses with underbite.
  3. Calling him a horse face is the one thing i wouldn't apologize about, because it's true.
  4. 9, and only Ortiz remained with the team offering the QO.
  5. I have a hunch that both Workman and Doubront will be members of the bullpen next season, but both will make a significant number of starts as well.
  6. In fact, with a healthy (pre-head case) Beckett, the 2008 team might have won the WS.
  7. This is also not completely true, since not all talent commands bidding wars between teams. Free Agency, as a whole, cannot be encompassed so simply.
  8. Not necessarily. Sometimes a player will: A) Take less money to stay with a club he prefers (rare) B ) Choose between several similar offers based on something other than total financial package, a la Beltran in 2005.
  9. Perfectly described.
  10. Someone will overpay for Salty as soon as McCann signs. You can bet money on that.
  11. I actually wouldn't be surprised if the Sox made QO's to all four of Drew, Ellsbury, Napoli and Salty.
  12. The QO's amount is set in stone at 14.1 million regardless of any outside factors.
  13. Yeah, most likely. That extra year means a lot to both the ballplayer, and the agent.
  14. Probably not. They will extend the corresponding QO's, then take their time negotiating with the ones they are interested in bringing back.
  15. I like Drew, but don't think the Sox will retain him unless it's on a 2-year deal at most, and someone will offer three.
  16. I say "pay cut" because in my mind, someone paying 20 per for him is already a guarantee. Also, i am selling the Brooklyn bridge.
  17. Look at Beltre's early-career numbers (Dodgers stadium notwithstanding), and scouting reports for both players. In-his-prime Adrian Beltre is exactly what WMB could become if he refined his plate approach, but with inferior defense. The Sox would be wise to exercise patience with the kid lest reach his ceiling with another team and make the Sox look like fools. You can teach and fix approach, but you can't teach tools.
  18. If you think Ellsbury's going to take a pay cut to stay here, i have a bridge i'd like to sell you.....
  19. It's funny you use a Beltre comparison when speaking about Drew, since Beltre and WMB have very similar skillsets.
  20. You don't know this. Can't prove this. Your "orthopedic doctor" friend's opinion doesn't matter. Please stop pretending that you do. Ellsbury was not a power hitter prior to the surgery. He pulled a Brady Anderson. He's not a power hitter.
  21. Then blows up in the playoffs for Atlanta. Genius Ben.
  22. SoxSport just ruined the thread for me with his whining about the media ********.
  23. 6 years at 20 per for Ells would be really stupid. Crawford stupid. How can you guarantee he'll hit 20 homers next year? What do you base this on? Other than the 2011 outlier he's never even sniffed 20 homers.
  24. Lots of people here didn't think it would be a miracle to win the WS if they made the playoffs, because the playoffs are a crapshoot.
  25. Who said it didn't matter what Cherington was thinking? You're the only who has said such a thing.
