  1. kind of like Napoli's numbers?
  2. Just because his arb number is 4.3 million doesn't mean that's the contract he will receive, I would imagine it would be a incentive laden contract with a low base salary.
  3. I was going to let this go but, so much of this asinine that I had to interject. The sox most glaring holes this year are a 1 year stop gap at catcher and a future 1B which Martinez would fill perfectly. And to compare Santana to Martinez is about an accurate comparison as you can make(below average catcher that his bat kept in the lineup), Martinez has a career obp of .369, while Santana's is .367. And the reason Santana is working at 3b in the Dominican is because Swisher can't play the OF anymore and Gomes is an allstar type Catcher. The Guardians are exploring every avenue to get Santana's bat in the lineup and I personally think that it speaks very highly of him if they think he can play 3b. I don't know if you have some personal issue with Santana but, It's like he took a dump on your front lawn and you wont let it go. Let it go.
  4. I know this question is not for me, but I thought I would chime in. I would offer Betts, Ranuado, Carp, and Dempster for Santana and Stubbs. Santana would split time with Ross his 1st year and then move to 1B full time in 2015. Sign Hart and Santiago, and call it a successful offseason. rf Victorino 2b Pedroia dh Ortiz 1b Hart c Santana ss XB lf Nava 3b WMB cf JBJ OF Gomes UT Santiago C Ross OF Stubbs
  5. Not to be an ass, but to say he hasn't been a good hitter the last 2 years is absurd. 2012 .785 ops wRC+ 121 2013 .832 ops wRC+ 135 Just to put that in context, his 2013 season would have been 2nd on the Sox behind Ortiz who had a 152 wRC+ with at least 300 abs.
  6. Just curious, but how are those prospects doing?
  7. The point was that the year prior to Napoli being a fulltime 1B his uzr numbers looked similar to Santana's and with a full spring training and knowing that he would be a 1b probably helped him. And referencing the wRC+ I would count on a major regression this year from Napoli as it was carried by his .367 babip, while Santana had a obp of .377 with a .301 babip. I would think that a top 10 1b entering his prime and under team control for 4 more years is worth 2 top 100 prospects.
  8. Santana's 135 wRC+ would be tied for 8th among all 1B(Napoli's was 129). Napoli's uzr rating in 2012 at 1B was in -14.4 in 207.2 innings, Santana's uzr in 2013 was -16.5 in 215 innings, so about the same. Im sure Napoli knowing that he would be a full time 1B prior to the season and working in Spring training, helped tremendously. I think that Santana has about 30million left on his contract through 2017, is he worth 2 top 100 prospects? If the sox could get him for Ranaudo and Betts I would pull the trigger on that.
  9. I wonder if he is holding out for a multi year contract? If the Sox could get him on a 1 year contract and get the draft pick, plus get Hanigan, I would deem this a successful offseason. edit: plus the sox could possibly turn Hart into a draft pick the following year.
  10. Actually you can make the argument that Salty is the better defensive catcher, but the Sox are losing a ton of offense this offseason with the losses of Ellsbury, Napoli, Salty, and Drew(7th in the major leagues for ss with a 109 wRC+). A full year of XB, a bounce back year for WMB, and a healthy Pedroia will help but I expect regression from Nava, Victorino, and Ortiz(eventually he has to slow down). Santana had a better wRC+ than Napoli and he gives the Sox a bridge year at Catcher and is potentially your 1B of the future. While I'm a huge supporter of Doubront, I don't think the FO is a big fan of his. edit: just saw the Guardians have Santana working at 3B in Dominican winter ball.
  11. What about Carlos Santana? Cleveland has let it be known that Gomes will be there everday catcher and Swisher will be regulated to 1B. I could envision something along the lines of Santana+Stubbs for something along the lines of Doubront, Carp, and maybe RDLR. It could solve Boston's Catcher position this year and then 1B for future years, Stubbs could be backup in CF and RF. Cleveland lost 2 sp's this year (Jimenez,Kasmir).
  12. I'll go with Houston as a darkhorse. They can definitely afford an 8/200 contract, they have tons of pitching (Appel,Mccullers,Foltynewicz, and will be drafting rodon #1 this year) that will be ready 2015.
  13. With the new cba and along with it the new draft spending restrictions the three supplement draft picks tied to Napoli, Drew, and Ellsbury are extremely valuable. With that in mind, I think Ben sticks to the same plan he had the previous year in that no free agent signings with a draft pick tied to them and furthermore not resigning anyone with a draft pick tied to them. Look for 1-2 year contracts with high aav (Hart,Salty,Ruiz,Young) and multiple trades. I would consider the off-season a success if we signed Hart 1/12, Ruiz or Salty to 2/20, and Young 2/16. Moved Dempster and Possibly Peavy and acquired high upside prospects cof and 1b RF Victorino LF Nava 2B Pedroia DH Ortiz 1B Hart C Salty ss XB CF JBJ 3b WMB OF Gomes OF Young UT Santiago C Ross I really think that one of Carp or Nava gets moved this year, in this scenario its obviously Carp.
  14. Corey Hart 1/12 plus what is essentially is a late first round draft pick in what is expected to be a deep draft or Napoli 3/40 and his ridiculous k rate. If Hart's knee checks out and you can get him on a 1 yr deal this appears to be a no brainer.
  15. Corey Hart seems like a perfect fit and 1 year contract appears in line due missing last year due to knee surgery. Carlos Ruiz makes sense only if you cant get Salty back on a 2-3 year deal. Juan Uribe only makes sense if you sign him as your starting 3b, didn't realize he put up a fwar of 5.1 until just now. Chris Young would be a good sign, but im pretty sure he's looking for a starting gig and more money. another name I would look at would be Drew Stubbs. Jesse Crain would be a good sign, it would all come down to his medical report and if you can get him on a 1 year deal.
  16. you could make that argument about Owens, RDLR,Barnes, and Ranaudo also.
  17. Just to add to this, Webster has 3 plus pitches (4 seamer, changeup, sinker) and a developing slider. It appeared to me in his ML starts this year he was trying to strike out everybody and barely threw his sinker. The potential to be a front of the rotation starter is there, just needs to work on his control.
  18. wasn't it initially a 1/7 contract? other candidates i can think of is Colon and Kazmir.
  19. Liriano is the one that stands out to me.
  20. don't hold me to it, but I thought i read 77k.
  21. Arguably losing their best player?
  22. Looking at buy low candidates, I would think that Josh Johson would be a Sox target for a incentive laden 1 year contract. They could move Dempster and Peavy(approx 28 million) and still have a rotation with depth. Lester Lackey Buchholz Doubront(expecting a huge year) Johnson/Workman/Webster/Ranuado/RDLR/Barnes/Wright If Johnson had a healthy year, the sox could offer a QO the following year. I see no downside to it.
  23. I would offer QO's to Napoli, Drew, Ellsbury, and Salty. Hopefully all of them decline and we grab the 4 picks. In free agency I would target Hochever 3/12, and McCann 5/75. I would look into trading for Billy Butler, maybe something like Peavy+Morales+Lavarnway. I would also look into trading for Luke Gregerson, maybe someling like Dempster+Hassan. Lineup vs rhp cf Bradley 2b Pedroia dh Ortiz 1b Butler c McCann ss Bogaerts lf Nava 3b Middlebrooks rf Victorino Bench of Gomes 1b Carp c Ross ut Holt Rotation 1.Lester 2.Buchholz 3.Lackey 4.Doubront 5.Workman/Webster/Ranaudo/Barnes/RDLR Bullpen cl Koji su Miller su Tazawa mr Hochever mr Gregerson mr Breslow mr Workman/Villareal
  24. Not trying to be an ass, but you would want Choo at 4/80 rather than Ellsbury at 5/100?
