  1. Hamilton is possible if we moved Ellsbury, Cain is adamant about resigning with Giants, Maybe Hammels?
  2. Excellent observation. While Mr Cherrington has been painfully methodical, I do think he has a plan and is not going to react to what other teams do.
  3. agreed, but there have been reports that the sox are still looking for a shortstop and there are no free agents unless you count Theriot. They would have to acquire a shortstop via trade. Let's say this trade does go down with Youkilis as the main piece were sending to Miami, Then the Scutaro salary dump makes sense and the signing of Ross would also make sense as you would have Aviles starting at 3b until Middlebrooks is available. I think Hanley's salary is arount 15 million his aav would be around 11.5 million, which would leave room to sign Oswalt. Of course this would be a pipedream.
  4. Of course they could put a package together for him, it just depends at what cost. I'm sure they could headline a trade with Ellsbury(which would be a disaster) or Youkilis with prospects(Ranaudo/Iglesias/ect...). I'm not putting any stock in this rumor, but if Miami wanted to move him, Boston could put an attractive package together.
  5. I would imagine this would put Aviles at 3b with Punto being the utility infielder, I wonder what kind package we would give up? Youkilis/Iglesias/and possibly any other latin minor leage prospect.
For those who can't read spanish, this guy is a reporter from the Dominican Republic and he is saying that there is a good chance Hanley Ramirez is traded to Boston. According to him, Hanley was in Boston today getting checked out by the teams medical staff. Take this with a grain of salt, I found this on the prosportsdaily.com forum, supposedly there's several dominican reporters on this. I remember seeing something about the sox still looking for a shortstop, it kind of makes sense.
  7. I would be happy with a 4.50 and 200 ip out of the 4/5 spot.
  8. trading Youkilis would be a catastrophic mistake, would you feel good about a lineup like this- Ellsbury Crawford Gonzales Pedroia Ortiz Mcdonald/Sweeney Salty/Shoppach Aviles/Punto Scutaro The offense struggled the last month of 2011 due to Youkilis injuries, without him there would be no power threat from the rt side and we would see nothing but left handers coming out of the bullpen. I assume the Fo is smarter than anybody on this board and exploring every option out there. Have faith.
  9. I assume everyone is waiting for Rangers/Darvish deal to go through, at that point you'll see Fielder and Oswalt fall into place, the worse scenario is that the Rangers don't sign Darvish and then sign Fielder and Oswalt. If that happens the wild card will probaly come out of the west.
  10. with 40-50 million coming off the books next year, it doesn't make sense not go over the luxury tax this year to improve your chance of winning. The tax should be reset next year, and if Bard has a solid year the starting rotation would already be filled out for 2013. If everything works out with improvement from our minors, you could look at roster something like this. Beckett Lester Buchholz Bard Lackey Bailey Melancon Aceves Wilson Doubrant Albers Miller Ellsbury Pedroia Gonzales Youkilis/Lavernaway Crawford Middlebrooks Kalish Salty/Laveraway Iglesias the payroll on this roster would be about 145-150 million, the point is that there were will be plenty of flexibility in 2013.
  11. Keep a close eye on the Rangers/Darvish negoitiations, if that falls through I would assume they would sign Oswalt and the Yankess would then pursue Kuroda, which leaves out of the 2nd tier starters. No way we sign Jackson to multiyear contract.
  12. this probaly has something to do with the Darvish negotiations.
  13. In a perfect world we sign kuroda 1/8 and maybe sign Harden for 1/1.5 for depth.
  14. I imagine a rotation and pen with the aquisition of Kuroda would look something like this Beckett Lester Buchholz Kuroda Doubrant Bailey Bard Aceves Melancon Morales Albers Miller/Jenks/Bowden/Atchinson I thinks also that Zumaya or Harden would be excellent acquisitions if we could get both of them on incentive laden contracts. a700 would this be an improvement on last years rotation and pen?
  15. there is no such thing as too much starting pitching.
  16. nice, so you don't agree with 81 wins, or what don't you exactly agree with?
  17. agreed, I think the Yankees sign one them(hopefully Jackson), and one of the other 2 fall to us. I prefer Kuroda due to Oswalts back injuries
  18. the majority of posters on this board think the bullpen and rotation are worse than last year, which if they are I would imagine that would costs us around 8-10 wins which puts around 81 wins off of last years record. Personally, I think just the fact that Lackey is not pitching is an upgrade and a backend of pen Melancon,Aceves, and Bailey will be fine.
  19. you've converted me, I agree with everything you said, and plus you can add that Ellsbury will not come close to next year's numbers, scutaro also will probaly not either. I also don't think Gonzales will hit for as high average as he did last year, and Ortiz will have significant drop off in production. Youkilis will be lucky to stay healthy for 300 abs the way his last 2 years have gone, and the worse part of this is there nobody close in the minors ready to contribute. The closer I look at, it will be probaly be a couple of years until we become competitive, well at least until Lackey and Beckett come off the books, and by that time Ellsbury will be gone via free agency(no way he signs back with Boston). So if we can deal with a couple of dismal years and start rebuilding 2015, we should be competitive by 2017. I would be shocked if we won 81 games this year, the rotation is horrofic, the pen is in shambles, and the offense is on the decline.
