  1. I think to suggest that John Henry or for that matter any owner obtained the capital required to buy a major league franchise dishonestly without any shred of evidence is what is obscene.
  2. Go Northeastern!
  3. If we are going to robot umpires and eliminate signs and signals because it isn't 1880 why not automate the entire game. Let's have robot players or better yet play the whole game as a video game on a huge gigantic video screen. Owners wouldn't worry about the luxury tax. Why have live human beings involved at all. (Sarcasm alert)
  4. lol!!!!
  5. Mookie's smile will carry the day.
  6. My gut feeling is that Mookie is going to take LA by storm. He could easily become a media darling out there which is going make getting him to leave the West Coast very difficult and very very expensive.
  7. My god he was at every game. What the hell was he watching?
  8. That's why it is too early to say whether trading Betts made good business sense.
  9. That is an assumption based on ones perspective.
  10. Ok whomever owns the Red Sox.
  11. Let's see what he does or doesn't do. As Lombardi said "Winning isn't everything, it is the only thing"
  12. I hope you are right but if I were Henry I wouldn't be so smug about it. I followed this team through thick and thin but not everyone is so committed to baseball. It is not a sure thing that any team can recapture the general public's affection once the public has developed other tastes. That is the danger. Too many posters on this board ASSUME that once fans lose their interest in Red Sox baseball they will automatically return after years in the wilderness. I don't assume Bloom will be successful or unsuccessful. I will wait for results. So far the jury is still out. He will have no excuses for failure.
  13. First of all it isn' t doom and gloom all I am saying is the stakes are high and Bloom has yet to produce. The success in Tampa was largely Andrew Freidman not Chain Bloom's.. Moreover it is far easier to operate in Tampa because you have the luxury of being able to make mistakes without being crucified in the media since no one in Tampa Bay cares about the Rays any how. If they did the team wouldn't be wanting to play in Montreal.
  14. Baseball is a business. Bloom is unproven at being the Chief of Baseball Operations at a successful team. Tampa Bay is hardly successful, having never won a title, drawing only friends and relatives unless the Red Sox or Yankees are in town, playing in a filthy dump. They have so little community support they want to play half their games in Canada. Either he builds a winner in Boston or he won't. What many need to recognize is that a decline in attendance can become precipitous and permanent. When I first came to Baltimore Orioles regularly drew huge crowds. Then Peter Angelis took control of the team and Baltimore saw attendance collapse. Henry knows the same thing can happen in Boston unless Bloom can turn it around. If the Red Sox get hit with substantial sanctions and loss of draft picks Bloom's job could become far more difficult then it already is. And the media won't be giving him any breaks. People think the Red Sox will always be the darling of Boston sport fans but fans can be fickle even in Boston.
  15. I am not criticizing Bloom but so far all we have to evaluate his performance is a highly controversial salary dump. The salary dump only makes sense if Bloom 1) gets the pitching 2 rebuilds the farm. Supposedly Bloom's expertise is identifying and developing pitching. That's why he was hired and not some other guy. Until he does what he was hired to do, he is just another unproven whiz kid. The difference between Boston and Tampa is in Boston the fans really really care and the media is a voracious watchdog. Bloom will get no free passes from either. So the pressure is building and the clock is ticking. How don't how much time either the fans and the media will give Bloom to show some results but I would say "Its later than you think" Declining attendance won't make his job any easier.
  16. If NESN rating decline like ticket sales, I think Henry will be having a conniption fit.
  17. Obviously I wanted Mookie to remain in Boston this year unless the Red Sox were out of it at the trade deadline. However from a business standpoint it is equally obvious that the Red Sox are suffering huge backlash at the gate. At some point that backlash could be such that trading Mookie could become a huge financial mistake despite whatever LUX TAX savings. Right now ticket sales are down 15%, last week Kennedy said they were down 6%. If they drop 20 to 25%, that could be from about 600,000 to over 700,000 fans.(I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss such a possibility) That would be one hell of a financial hit especially if were to last for more than a one year. Red Sox fans are not only pissed at the trade but also the increase in ticket prices. This could get real ugly
  18. Last week he said 6%. That isn't good news because it looks like the rate of decline in attendance could be acceralarating. This shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. If you see Henry walking with a limp it is because he shot himself in his foot over the way they handled this whole affair.
  19. Recently, I posted that Kennedy said ticket sales were down 6% from last year. His most recent statement is that sales are down 15% from last year. That is a startling drop. That could mean of over 400,000 from last year. That could mean a loss of total revenue of well over 30 million dllrs in ticket and other sales at the ballpark alone. What Henry needs to really worry about is the phenomenon of how difficult it is to win back fans who have quit on the team.
  20. While I tend to agree, I guess it depends on whom they decided to re interview. If it were a JD Martinez for example then I would be really concerned since he denied any sign stealing.
  21. You can not blame the media for being the media. Besides the Red Sox did not become the brand that has become without publicity.
  22. The Commissioner told Steve Buckley who reported in the Athletic that MLB investigators had to re interview some individuals based on new information which came to light. I don't know if that is good or bad news for the Red Sox. I guess we will just have to wait for the investigation to be completed to learn which.
  23. Universe to Red Sox Nation the FO lies!
  24. Red Sox Sam Kennedy told NBC Sports that Sox ticket sales are down 6% from last year. That data was really before the full impact of the Betts Price trade has been felt. I wouldn't be surprised to see a 10% decline this year and next from the 2019 attendance totals. The secondary market will take the biggest hits.
  25. Oh things will work out...… eventually. I just don't have 86 years to wait.
