  1. I believe it is a statistical fact of baseball life that chances of going on the IL increase the more times a player goes on the IL. In other words a player on the IL has a greater likelihood of going on the IL again than one who has not gone on the IL.
  2. Read an interesting article which postulates that it is theoretically possible for a fast ball to rise if it were thrown with enough velocity and a high enough spin rate. One calculated that it would need to be thrown at a 113 mph with a 3100 rpm spin rate. Obviously beyond the current capability of anyone pitching today.
  3. Feckless Bloom sucked the spirit from that team.
  4. There is that old say in baseball that you don't know the team you have until the 50 game mark. Well at 50 games the Red Sox are only a half game out of the third wild card slot. If they can stay healthy and Breslow avoids Bloom's fecklessness at the trade deadline, they could make it. Much to my surprise, this team is showing they have a real chance at making the playoffs. It should be a fun ride toward September.
  5. Especially after pulling off a delayed double steal of home!!!, Gutsiest play of the year!! Kudos to Cora Devers and Duran.
  6. Wrong? You are assuming John Henry has the same goals as does the Red Sox fan base. He clearly does not. I do not believe he thinks he has charted the "wrong" course or approach. This is what he wanted. He may change personnel such as Bloom to throw fans a scapegoat and a bone but I see him continuing to operate with a smaller payroll than he had in years past. It is working for him.
  7. It is working for Henry.
  8. I think Henry has a strategic vision. First and foremost it is to expand the FSG portfolio. Second he believes that exploding MLB payrolls are financially unsustainable in the lomg run and are not a guarantee for success. I believe his overall management of the Red Sox since 2019 has been totally consistent with that vision.
  9. Interesting developments on MLB seeking a national tv package similar to that of the nfl with the streaming services such as Netflix et al. Big market teams such as Yankees and Red Sox oppose for now. But if this does happen NESN would be toast possibly. One of the big reasons for MLBs interest in pursuing such a deal is cord cutting. Consumers are moving rapidly away from cable opting for streaming services. Depending on the details of such a deal this would affect Henry's ownership of the Sox especially if MLB approves a deal which Henry opposes. It's a development worth watching.
  10. I do not think Rafaela is major league ready. They brought him up too soon. IMO. Bello likewise it is too early to say.
  11. This team is a train wreck right now. The aren't hitting; they aren't fielding ; and they don't throw very well either. Other than that .....
  12. I suspect that Theo immediately recognized that the FO has become an overstaffed bureaucracy not equal to the sum of its parts.
  13. Chris Sale or not, the Red Sox are clearly outclassed by a team like the Braves. It shows how far the Sox are from fielding a true contending team.
  14. I know that I am in the minority but I hate inter league play. I would love to see a schedule like that proposed above.
  15. I did not know Heyman was a party in the negotiations. Most really good baseball agents such as Boras are masterful negotiations otherwise they wouldn't be where they are.
  16. And you know this because?
  17. Negotiations happen between parties all the time when one party has no interest in consumating a deal with that particular party. It is a common tactic to put pressure on other parties who are also interested in consumating a deal with one of the parties. It is shows a total lack of sophistication in negotiation strategy not to recognize that fact.
  18. Dalbec did himself no favors tonight. If he is lucky they option him to Worcester. I think he has one left. I just do not think he will ever figure out major league pitching.
  19. Good game nice win against a quality team. Sox win the series. The only sour note for me is the ESPN broadcast. They suck. Makes one appreciate NESN.
  20. Much to my own surprise this team could make the playoffs IF and only IF they can avoid major injuries to their starters.
  21. If you recall DD confronted Werner about his contract not being renewed. He wanted to return but Henry decided not to renew his contract. The reporting coming out at the time was that Henry did not like DDs lone wolf management style. He wanted a more collegial consensus form of management from the CBO. Henry allegedly wanted to fire DD earlier in 2018 but couldn't because DD went and won the world series. Damn inconsiderate of him too. What DD wanted regarding the budget was never the issue. That is merely conjecture based on hindsight. It was all about DDs subordinates not being happy with his management style.. The same subordinates who went leaking to the press all their peeves about Bloom. The Red Sox front office is a snake pit.
  22. I don't think DD's departure was mutual. Their is ample evidence that DD wanted to stay and was pissed at the way the FO handled his leaving. We know from past experience the Henry has a s***** record of handling personnel departures.
  23. I generally agree. But JH would have never let DD remain this long. I think JH set his sights on expanding his empire into non baseball activities. As such he was not going commit any excess Dollars into the Red Sox. I think Henry thinks baseball salaries are too high and non productive. His goal may be unrealistic but he wants to compete in a more cost effective manner.
  24. A ctually I think they are playing better than expected. Other than the shoddy defense what has really hurt this team are the injuries. I know it is against the major league culture but guys have to play smarter and be more aware of their surroundings and try an avoid going full and risking some injuries.
  25. Best performance by a Red Sox pitcher in 2 years!!! Fantastic effort by Tanner Houck.
