  1. As a number oif us said months ago, the problem is the FO didn't get rid of its problem children. Beckett's toxic influence has permeated this clubhouse IMO. The three starters have all morphed into John Lackey clones. Their constant whinning on the mound drives me crazy. Yes Salty sucks. And A-Gon is playing with the all the drive and elan of JD Drew. Why didn't Beckett or Lester or Bard step forward to pitch last night. They didn't because they have no sense of team pride. That's the problem with this team. That what needs to be fixed.
  2. I can't imagine the Sox letting Cook escape their grasp given the dire pitching situation here and throughout MLB. If they were to, however, it would confirm the utter incompetence that is the current state of the Red Sox FO.
  3. If Yugo goes on the DL which is a possibility, I'd guess Iggy is a late inning defensive replacement with Aviles going to 3rd. Iggy gets garbage time ABs. If Yugo is long term DL then we see Middlebrooks at 3rd IMO
  4. Yugo on the DL! Surprise! Surprise! Surprise!
  5. Not from the fans but from virtually every sports writer who follows this team. Besides why would the front office make such a statement now.
  6. Bard's performance as a starter to date has been very good. Nevertheless, virtually evryone concedes that he will eventually return to the bullpen this year. It is unlikely that the Sox will want him to pitch more than 150 innings this season. Everything I've read on the subject indicates it isn't in Bard's interest as a future starter to pitch more than that number of innings his first year starting. If this is true his transition back to the pen will be interesting and potentially controversial. He has already shown a reluctance to pitch two days in a row. How they manage Bard especially once Dice-K returns assuming one of the other starters doesn't go down will be one the continuing story lines of this season.
  7. No one will admit it but BV's trip to the mound in the 9th calmed everyone down. You could see the grins. That certainly eased the tension.
  8. While I don't agree with the move I admire BV's cajones
  9. Now if you are BV what to you do? Lester? Bard? Who do you trust?
  10. There is a fundament flaw with the Red sox appoach to pitching. These supposedly talented guys can not be this bad. Lester et al were obviously overrated but they aren't the worst in baseball are they?
  11. The New York press will now write that BV admits to sharing some "Coke" with a player's wife and the Commissioner and DEA have started an investigation!
  12. 50% players, with one or two exceptions the pitchers haven't shown up to play yet, 45% FO for not cleaning house completely a la the Flyers and for not empowering their new manager (whomever that was by letting him bring in his own coaches) and 5% the new manager. BTW any new manager (I am speaking now outside of baseball) who has had to come in and clean up a mess such as the one that existed in Boston will get the exact same reaction from those who wanted to maintain the status quo ante. What BV faces is typical and to be expected which is why from the getgo I thought this was a two year deal. Bobby's failure is that he may actually want to be liked by these guys.
  13. That is just pure nonsense. They lost because their bull pen couldn't hold an 8 run lead. They obviously were holding Doubront to a pitch count of about 100 pitches. It's April, if your bull pen can't hold an 8 run lead in April then it isn't the manager's fault but the GM's fault because of the crap he signed, during off season. This trying to place blame on the manager when 99.9% of managers would have done the same is simply nuts.
  14. Suggest you read Cafardo this AM and Abraham yesterday.
  15. So Doubront was going to complete the game. The relievers gave up 7 runs in the 7th ans 7 again in the 8th. That's nonsense. If the pen can't hold an 8 run lead with 9 outs can you trust them tomorrow night or ever. Get real it isn't about last night's game. That's a "strawman". The bullpen sucks. Just as well that everyone see it for what it is. Cherrington didn't make one effective move over the winter to improve pitching. Worse he let Weaver get away.
  16. It is still Tito's fault:D
