  1. I'm curious about how people feel about the continuing renovations and tweaking of Fenway, as well as the idea of a new ballpark. I think ultimately, a new ballpark is inevitable, and probably necessary. The club is so linked with the Fenway neighborhood, so ideally, the ballpark would be built near or on the present site. If they tear down Fenway and build on the present site, that would require at least 2 years of home games being played elsewhere, and where would that be? Gillette is the most plausible answer. If they build outside the Fenway area, the waterfront would be the best location, in my opinion. Great downtown location, skyline view, etc. I would not want to see a carbon copy replica Fenway Park, but an entirely different ballpark. No need for a Green Monster, unusual dimensions, etc. I think they'd do well to keep it retro, like Camden Yards, but altogether new, inside and out. The new Yankee (hehe) Stadium is just a boring facsimile of the old one, so it has no identity of it's own. I wouldn't want that to happen here. We'd have to break with the old and forge a new identity for a new, different looking ballpark, including the name. "Pride Park" is a name I like. Hopefully they don't do a corporate name. If they plan on staying put indefinitely, but still want to increase capacity, they should consider adding a second tier of seats above the bleacher seats. They could easily get another 6,000 seats if they did that.
  2. nova bottled it
  3. That could be a subtle dig at players like JD Drew, and maybe even Beckett.
  4. Hazel Mae has a face like a catcher's mitt. Nice body, by my God, that face is scary...
  5. Should be a good series. Detroit in 7.
  6. Yep, class act even when he got s*** canned
  7. It's his strength and weakness at the same time...the players initially liked playing for him, because he's not a whip cracker, he allows them to drink beer in the locker room, he always defends them to the press....but ultimately his easy going, "Aw Shucks" approach was seen as weak, and even his veterans were tuning him out. Tito managed us to two championships, he's by far the best modern era manager we've had. He'll always be respected for what he achieved. But it's probably the right time for him to move on. But he'll be missed, nonetheless.
  8. +1 These are the ones. Love 'em.
  9. Hiyas, I'm a Mass. native, been following the Sox since about 1977.... I've had the good fortune of being at Fenway for the Game 7 clincher against the Angels in 1986, and the division clinchers in '88 and '90. I was sitting right near where Brunansky made that great catch to win it. I am staunchly anti-Pink Hat, but recognize that it's all a byproduct of our success, so I grin and bear it. I think "Sweet Caroline" needs to be put out to pasture. My favorite players from yesteryear are Yaz, Fisk, and Fred Lynn. I miss the old timers with their cigar smoke, scorecards and transistor radios... I love the recent glory, but miss the old Fenway. I'm rambling now, Go Sox!
  10. I know given the current calamity down Yawkey Way, talking about uniforms might seem ill-timed, but I figure, why the poop not? Anyone else not like the current away jerseys? The W.S. era ones were nice, with the red lettering, the stylized numbers and name font, as well as the trim on the sleeves. These new ones are too close to the 80's style for my liking. Very bland. Also, whenever I see old photos of home jerseys from pre-1970's, they have two stripes on the ends of the sleeves, and two stripes running down the front, not the one we have now. Looks much sharper, IMO. What are your thoughts?
  11. Who do you think would be the best fit right now?
  12. We should start a Latin thread in Latin only
  13. Is that what they stole in "The Town"?
  14. I wasn't blaming Drew for being Drew. I was blaming Theo for SIGNING Drew for FIVE years....it was too much money for too many years for a player that wasn't worth it, bottom line.
  15. I think the verdict is IN on Lackey, and it ain't good.....He had a good year and a great postseason performance against us with the Angels, and that was good enough for Theo to shatter the piggy bank, when what he should've done was waited a year and made a run at Cliff Lee. Now we're saddled with a massive contract on a crap pitcher who is a cantankerous prick to boot. Epstein is also responsible for Drew, Lugo, Renteria, and DiceK. A 5 year contract to an injury-prone Drew who was most famous for under performing? Paying 50m just for first dibs at Gyro Ball Mystery Man from Japan? Terrible decision. Epstein is not without considerable flaws, and if he goes too, I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.
  16. Moore moved to the top of my dark horse draftees list for my fantasy league.....kid looks composed as hell...and good.
  17. Nope. Lincecum is a NL pitcher. He'd get roughed up in the AL, especially in the East. He's shown this year that he's human, and he's also a little guy who hurls, which would concern me in terms of injury potential. I'd take Kershaw though
  18. Yeah, this "Conditioning" issue is news to me, but apparently an ongoing concern in the FO...which begs the question why wasn't it addressed at an earlier point than the day after we get bounced?
  19. Yep, it was amusing for about one season. it should have died a death by now. Sadly, it is a Pink Hat favorite, and as such, will be played forever. :thumbdown
  20. Youk is toast as a everyday infielder. The only way he stays is if we ship Papi out, and make Youk the DH.
  21. I think it's speculation unless you have some kind of proof. Based on what we've been hearing, it seems like there is a fractured clubhouse, and probably at least two cliques, of which are comprised of players we can all probably guess...but even then, it's still just guessing.
