Did anybody verify or hear what I thought I heard last night that being that Cora is committed now to saves only for Kimbrel and a max of 4 out saves at the end. So that would be last out of the 8th and then the 9th inning.

Well what we are really worried about is getting to kimbrel right. We are not concerned with the whole staff in bb/9 nor even the whole pen. There is only 1 AL closer that is better than Kimbrel in bb/9 and that is Osuna at 1.3 for 2017. Kimbrel pulled a 1.8. Nobody else even gets below 2.0 and most closers in the AL are closer to 3.0. Clevland had the best pen in the AL last year. Closer had a good bb/9. The entire pen had a good bb/9. Their pen has a better bb/9 than ours as does the Angels pen. Twins and Sox pens were about tied for 3/4 for bb/9 in 2017. While Osuna pulled a 1.3 the rest of the Toronto pen did not pull a decent bb/9 in 2017. The point is that if you pull Kimbrel out of our bb/9 and pull the other closers out of the other pens, we probably fall to 5th in the AL, maybe 6th and our problem is not Kimbrel as long as we keep him closing only. Our problem is getting to Kimbrel after the closer leaves. That is not a great standing for a contending team still reliant on pitching. Still upper 3rd of the league for pen bb/9 but just barely.

Who cares. The whole pen was a walk the world pen last year and it is this year. Big surprise...I just don't know who should be surprised.

What do you know...a relief pitcher gets through an inning without a walk. Staggering. I should have recorded this for posterity.

And of course Cora would have been wrong about that. Kelly had not walked his quota yet. I know...I should just have a shot every time a Sox relief pitcher walks somebody. I will be drunk in about two innings.

I have grown so sick of seeing Yankee hitters do just that here. Does my heart good to see a Sox hitter do it. Who pitches next, Lavanche?

There is not a single one of them that can find the plate even with nominal consistency. The best is Kimbrel and even he sometimes can't find the plate. A walks the world pen is what it was last year and a walks the world pen is what it is now.

So somebody want to tell me how this pen survives unless we are playing trash teams every night.

Same cast of characters that would walk the world last year, doing it again this year. Why would we think they would be any better?

That was a good pull. Not to say I know what Kelly will do. But the biggest problem with this pen is it would walk the world if it got the chance.

How many Yankee RH hitters have we seen just doink the ball to RF here. Sometimes over the fence.

Well at least Hembree got the 1st out of the inning before letting a guy on. I absolutely hate seeing a relief pitcher come in and let somebody on with no outs.
