  1. GD juiced baseball. That was a very very difficult play for Mookie, much harder than it might have looked on the tube. As for Nunez though...another example of our sterling infield defense.
  2. Backed off to an 8:50 start now. Looks like they will play though.
  3. Speaking of who is in tonight. Here it is folks. 1. Mookie Betts ® RF 2. Andrew Benintendi (L) CF 3. Hanley Ramirez ® DH 4. J.D. Martinez ® LF 5. Xander Bogaerts ® SS 6. Mitch Moreland (L) 1B 7. Eduardo Nunez ® 2B 8. Rafael Devers (L) 3B 9. Christian Vazquez ® C
  4. Horrible horrible news on Smith. Sounds stupid, but having thrown a glove in disgust a number of times in my life there is just something odd about the weight and balance of a leather baseball glove that surprises you if you throw it in frustration as in throw it hard. But for God sake fella.....you are a pitcher in the major leagues. You must have thrown a glove in disgust before and realized it often can leave an odd aftertaste. IDIOT SMITH....IDIOT! Why do you think you see so many players about to throw their glove in frustration and then just pull it back. You can literally see them reminding themselves "Nah, this is not a good idea."
  5. There is really nothing for us to empty in trade for a good player. Our new pitching prospect is in TJ and the other prospect is on suspension from baseball. So we got nothin'. As for the rotation it is still the strength of this team, even with Kid Corpal and Pom struggling a bit. You just cannot expect dominance every outing from anybody really...including Sale. 1-6 in the batting order could be fabulous if Beni and Devers grow enough over the course of the season to be more consistent than I expect due to their age. I would not go crazy to replace the catchers actually. Nobody is going to give up a good player for what we can trade. I would absolutely trade swihart for whatever. We are not going to play him and thats that.
  6. He is literally just taking up a spot. Does not matter what he ever was....Cora won't play him. Not sure they are going to can Cora because he won't play Swihart.
  7. JBJ has to get back into the lineup at some point. If our OF defense falls to s*** then the entire defensive effort falls to s*** and we are going to be the Keystone Kops out there. If they can get him to go to the opposite field, just stay on the ball and take controlled strokes going oppo, they might be able to his head to stop moving all over creation. I know it sounds absurd to so often say that the way to get a guy's swing back in shape almost no matter what the problem is to get him to start to go to the opposite field but it is the fastest way to cure so many problems at the plate. They just want JBJ to do enough with the bat to allow his glove to stay out there. They could do that much during the season. Turning him into a real hitter might be a different story. But we just want him to do enough to put his glove out there.
  8. Boy I am thinking this IS even more of a juiced baseball than the 2016 or 2017. Really disappointing to see a ball hit like that go out of one of the deepest RF's in baseball. It was hit good...but not that good. That was way out of here.
  9. Manaea did not get the 0-0 to nunez. Fine for nunny. But if Porcello doesn't get that pitch that will be a problem
  10. That was scored a hit which is a bit mystifying to me.
  11. Flower .....Flower in CF Gomes? Try Fowler.
  12. I hope NESN does not plan on Gomes for the entire home stand. I should have had about enough by the end of this Oakland series. "He got a knock and the hitter in front of him got a knock and before you know it we had three knocks in a row hoping for a fourth knock and we call that four knocks in a row!"
  13. I don't think so either. Even tonight's appearance is likely an effort to keep Swihart from freezing up like the tin man from Wizard of Oz, needing to be oiled before use. If they ever have to depend on him, I just don't know what to expect and they probably don't know either. Here, we will put him in against a guy that owned us last time out. That way we save the BA for guys on our roster that we actually care about.
  14. Thank God. Even a decent effort from Valasquez, Hembree and Kelly.
  15. Ya' gotta love this game!!!!
  16. OB "Jackie on deck is hit-less today but he has scored a run" Yea OB because the idiot pitcher was stupid enough to walk him. Guy likely won't live it down for a month out in the bullpen. "Hey, didn't you walk Jackie Bradlee?"
  17. Funny how advertising works isn't it. I have to admit I have asking myself the same thing for about 5 innings now.
  18. JBJ over-extenuates everything. That torso twist that cost him about 500 AB's a few years ago started as just a flaw that you could see and thought he would figure out. By the time he was done he was turning like a corkscrew before they finally got him to do something to cure it and what they did was pretty dramatic. It had to be. This mess with his head has never been this bad before at least in the years I have followed him. Now he is likely losing the baseball feet out in front of the plate. He is so stubborn about his swing and seems not to realize that as much as he wants to think it is staying the same, usually it is getting worse till they finally have to blow it up to get him back on track.
  19. Oh look, an opposing relief pitcher auditioning for our front office. Walks the first batter. Guy has potential!!!
  20. I would send Barnes down if I didn't want to send Johnson down so badly. No wait, does Hembree have options?
  21. Good jobs both ends of that play. Barnes is just a disaster. Most of them are. Gave up hits instead of his usual walks.
  22. OK so what is Barnes doing? Last stint he could not find the plate with a FB at all. So is he no longer going to throw it? Good gracious.
  23. Remy just said it using JD as the example. But you could use just about any hitter of reasonable quality...a 275 BA, 775 OPS guy will not be as completely blind to the baseball the way JBJ is now.
  24. See...JBJ had no earthly idea where that pitch was going.
  25. Geez 700, you are right. I don't think I can watch MLB highlights of this day. Just too much pink!
