  1. Day game after night game...I think Cora is being cautious with Holt based on past reputation for punking out on the season. But its getting ridiculous now. We are coming up on the ASB. From there on, Holt needs to be getting more of the split than he is getting. That is about my limit for this nonsense.
  2. I am going to bet there are more throwing errors than fielding errors. He has improved his fielding both throwing and fielding. But he was making so many throwing errors early that I am going to bet he has more throwing errors than fielding errors.
  3. This is worse than that. Sure there are going to be bad teams in a 15 team league. There are not more than 4 good teams, 5 tops in the AL and the gap between them and the dregs is massive. As I have said before it is not for lack of stars nor is it for the stars being less star-like than stars from the past. It is everything on these teams other than the stars. These guys are either too young or just plain not major league worthy regardless of their age. The better teams have generally better depth and better everyday players other than their stars and markedly better pitching than the dregs. Its not even close and I am not even sure what MLB can do about it at this point. It has been getting progressively worse for a long long time to the point now where it is stunning.
  4. 1. Mookie Betts ® RF 2. Andrew Benintendi (L) LF 3. Steve Pearce ® DH 4. Mitch Moreland (L) 1B 5. Xander Bogaerts ® SS 6. Rafael Devers (L) 3B 7. Eduardo Nunez ® 2B 8. Sandy Leon (S) C 9. Jackie Bradley Jr. (L) CF Welcome to the rigors of the 162 game season.
  5. For a very short stretch maybe. Swihart needs to rebuild his swing for one thing. He is a wreck and you don't suddenly go from wreck to even solid just by getting playing time mid-season. We need vaz and sandy certainly for the stretch run and definitely for the post season.
  6. Imagine how bad some of the winning percentages of these crap teams would be if they didn't get to play each other?
  7. So I simply could not hold out to the end of this game. There are times when even watching my beloved Sox I simply cannot tolerate the trash MLB calls MLB these days nor the idiots in the various broadcast booths. So I exited once it became obvious that the Royals would have to roll out its Frankenstein of a pen. There was simply no way for the Royals to keep up. So I misses the Vaz injury. I have to guess it was another head first, hand first slide in a meaningless game vs another hideous AAA level opponent. Is that what happened? We need Vaz and Sandy. We will certainly need both of them for October and likely need both healthy for at least some part of the regular season. But when is this horse s*** head first slide crap going to end assuming that is what happened?
  8. Really impressive inning Price.
  9. See what I mean about this park. Even slow footed Mitch got all the way around from 1st running on contact with two outs.
  10. Sal trying to pile on and make Price's night very unpleasant.
  11. That Cutter has been trash the last two starts. Its either off the plate so far nobody is sniffing at it or its right down main street.
  12. This is surely not the Fox crew that had Sox-Yankees. No part of it is.
  13. Well this is a big ballpark. With two outs the runners are running on contact. So in a park this size I would have preferred Beni not test Perez there because there is quite a good chance that a base hit in the gap goes to the wall here. That is way out there in just about every part of this park and Beni scores from first. I suppose I might have liked it more deeper in the batting order. But not there.
  14. By the way, I fully expect Price to have a crackerjack start tonight....crackerjack.
  15. Earth to Beni...Sal Perez is not the garbage you usually get to run on.
  16. Thronburg replaces Mr ThrowHisGlove. Somebody else will trip over his cleats or jump up in the dugout and impale himself on that little pin that holds the beanie to the top of the cap or some such thing. Too much season to go to think we won't lose another one. Then again if we can get Wright back into the rotation, maybe Pom comes back and goes to the pen. Anyway, I am not really worried about it. Covering 1st base was a stroke of genius IMO as Mitch would not have lasted the season without crumbling to dust if we did not get him somebody to take some of the load.
  17. I do think a pen arm is called for...but we seem to know how to sift through some rubbish and come up with one if we need to. Plus I hear we are paying some guy $30 large who is just perfect for our pen come October. So we are likely all set. I know I have yammered on a good deal this year about how Godawful some of these teams are. But even I am shocked and I expected not to be shocked. I was expecting to be the last person to be shocked by how bad these teams are this year.
  18. Don't you just love these newfangled drugs that they are pumping out these days. "If you start to grow a 3rd eye or a 6th finger, discontinue use and call your doctor" Yea thanks a lot. I am so devastatingly concerned with my wrinkles or my pot marked butt or my anxiety or my whatever that I really want to be taking this stuff. Modern medicine. I have a real feeling that they are developing some of this garbage because they can and because some wiz kid marketing guy wants a crack at selling it, not because there is actually a widespread yen for the stuff. Anyway, you know we are crushing somebody when we can digress to this degree.
  19. 1. Mookie Betts ® RF 2. Andrew Benintendi (L) LF 3. J.D. Martinez ® DH 4. Steve Pearce ® 1B 5. Xander Bogaerts ® SS 6. Brock Holt (L) 2B 7. Eduardo Nunez ® 3B 8. Sandy Leon (S) C 9. Jackie Bradley Jr. (L) CF
  20. I agree about the game Vaz called today. But I think it was the early game he called. E-rod got going with the slider and FB and almost immediately worked in the Change which is the better secondary pitch for E-rod. But on the days when E-rod will not throw the Change at all or conversely will not throw the slider at all I don't really think you can put that on the Catcher. When E-rod gets off a pitch on a particular day he is off of it and no catcher seems to be able to get him back on it. He just does not have enough to go out there with a FB, a Cutter and either a Change or a Slider. He can drop of the Cutter on some days successfully. But needs to be able to throw FB, Change, Slider to succeed.
  21. Absolutely right. What Swi missed when that LF injury took him is the playing time and opportunity he would have had to be around guys that know what it takes, how much dedication you have to pile on top of enormous talent to play baseball at that level. Just the worst possible timing for Swi. Look at JD. Struggled, cut, released for God sake but got back into the game at a time when he could be around players that could help him learn how dedicated he had to be. How much time you have to put in on top of all that talent and JD is the result. JD is half dedication and half talent. Guys like Mookie are massive talents....just ridiculously talented which is why comparisons between Mookie and Beni are just unfair to Beni. Devers is closer to Mookie than Beni is believe it or not and Devers is not really all that close.
  22. Injury and no playing time. There are so many players that get caught in that cycle. That LF injury was the last nail in his coffin at least as a Red Sox player. I would say that for every Devers there are three or four guys at least that get banged out of baseball by the system, can't even really play minor league ball for very long. It is brutal and it is a brutally hard game to play. Kinda' looks easy cause its not NBA guys skying or NFL guys pounding the crap out of each other or NHL guys also pounding the crap out of each other. But given the multiple talents it takes just to get on the field, and the ridiculous amount of talent it takes to hit at this level, I am not sure there is a harder team game to play and stay in it without being banged out by something or just ground to dust. Probably neck and neck with Soccer for toughest team sports to play at a high level for any period of time worth talking about. Swi probably gets one last shot to recover his career someplace.
  23. Harper does not look comfortable doing anything, not fielding, definitely not hitting. Almost like he has something crawling inside his uni all the time. There might be something just flat wrong with him. Of course we will not find out or know or anything really. The bigger the name, the less likely you find out what is going on with them or even get a sniff at something like that. The player goes nuts. His agent goes nuts. The PA goes nuts. Senators start proposing legislation in Congress.
