The Advanced shift is the only thing truly objectionable. Just restrict shifts to two guys either side of 2nd base. Other than that, put them where you want.
The problem with the arguments that "other" team sports allow the defense to position against the offense anywhere where they want is that baseball is the only major team sport where the "object" the ball, starts in the hands of the defense, 100% of the time...in the hands of a pitcher. Now if they want to start playing T-ball in the ML's, then they can position the fielders anywhere they darned well please. Does turning MLB into T-ball make any sense to anybody? Christ I probably should not say that too often. Some nitwit at MLB headquarters will suddenly decide that its a great idea.
