This is so Mattingly. Has he ever been different EVER??? What the heck was he saving his LH pitcher for.....extra innings? THAT in fact describes Mattingly. Too much. Imagine how long he would last here...then again...look how long Farrell lasted.

i do recognize by the way that the Sox have tried to force feed Barnes as the 8th inning guy. But that is not what he is and I just don't understand why they thought he would be.

I either said this in the last game thread or on the regular board but we don't have an 8th inning guy. One of the things Cora has got to figure out is who is the 8th inning guy and then how does he cut up his bullpen by specific need. Every one of our pen guys are effectively the same pitcher which is why it always turns out to be Cora simply choosing an arm that is the most rested. There is no dif between any of them really. FB and a secondary pitch is what they are, pitcher after pitcher.

I am in one sense glad the race is tightening. I would prefer the Sox get challenged before they get to the post season. I would also prefer they meet that challenge.

I have to say, I don't buy the "rays know Evo" argument. So the Rays know Evo and the Yanks didn't? Your in the middle plate your dead and Evo was in the middle of the plate. Most of our guys have been in the middle of the plate lately. Need Sale and probably would love to have E as well.

Biggest challenge facing the MFY besides the games with is likely that stretch out west against A's and M's.

I wonder if the MFY are kidding themselves about getting Judge back. I am from Missouri on that one.

We swept the O's 4 in the stretch. They are about to sweep the O's 4 if they win tonight. The rest of the opposing schedules have been about the same since then. They had 3 with the CWS and I think we have 3 coming up with them. But the league is so hideous this year with the exception of 5 teams (including us). it really does not matter who you are playing if you are not playing one of those 5 teams. No way we should have been swept here for example regardless of this rotten dungeon of a park. Should have won one of the Rays bullpen game anyway. Think we got a little ahead of ourselves on the strength of the MFY sweep at a bad time to do that.

We are going to be 11-8 since having swept the MFY and they are going to be 14-5 over that stretch without Judge and Sanchez and now without Didi and Chapman. Us without Sale and Erod and Vaz and Devers...well maybe we got one game out of Sale.

Been saying it since the Maneae game. This is a FB hitting team. If I were pitching against us, I would not throw FB's for strikes unless I had to. I would show FB off the plate just to show it. Throw our RH hitters an assortment of sliders curves and two seams and our LH hitters Change ups and Cutters. Then when we run into periods when we can't even hit FB's that is a tough stretch for us.

What really does not help is that the Sox just hate playing here. I would not want to be a team coming into this place either. Arcade baseball.

True but I am not sure he would have more success against another team throwing like this. Too many Sox pitchers have MiddleofPlate-itis lately.

OB..."Sox have got to get Evo back to where he was." I got the cure, get Sale and E back in the rotation. Evo has controlled nothing today. The Rays have hit whatever they want to hit off him.

Thank God...If FB's are your pitch. You look for FB's. If you are having trouble hitting them...well that is just the way it is. But to stop looking for them is just death by a thousand cuts.
