  1. Gibby....You mean to tell me you did not have a single RH hitter you could bat lead off against Price Gibby...not one?? How's that working out Gibby.
  2. Because there are no right guys out there with the exception of Kimbrel and Cora is left in just about the same place Hinch was in last year. "Take Any bullpen and make them effective". Thats optimistic. Take our own division. Now that Buck has gone off the managerial cliff edge there is one truly interesting, good manager in the whole division, Cash IMO. Cash is followed by Cora who exhibits real possibilities followed by three utter and complete fails since Buck now appears to have lost touch with his team. The bottom three are Buck, Boone and Gibby. Boone only saved from worst Manager in the division by the awful Gibby. Those percentages are not unusual. They are in fact the norm. Taken across MLB then you would have 6 good managers, 6 more exhibiting signs of and some potential to be a good manager, 6 guys in some transitional phase usually in the wrong direction and twelve utter and complete fails. Cash by the way was awful his first year. Cora is way better than awful in his first season.
  3. Every game closer to clinching gives Cora more and more opportunity to experiment as he prepares for the post season which is obviously what he is doing. Maybe with 7-8 games left he will likely try to get the team really focused and will stop experimenting so much as a means to show them that its time for the real show. Nothing wrong with it. He has games to play with.
  4. Hey did anybody catch that early in the game. Were they saying that they were surprised that Gibby was still managing because the Jays have already announced that he is not coming back next year? Anybody have anything on that? Are they FINALLY done with Gibby up there?
  5. I am not even sure some of the guys in that bullpen can deal with a clean inning late (6th or 7th inning) in a tight game under post season pressure.
  6. Well Cora does have a difficult job that is likely to get harder. I still think he is going to have to resign himself to trying to give his starter a chance to get out of a jam even when tiring and in the 5th or 6th inning because he does not have a pen that can come in to ducks on the pond. He is better off giving his starter a chance to get out of a jam and give the relief pitcher, whomever he is, a clean inning. So that means he is going to have to know these starters good enough to know when they have given him everything they have on that night. After that....my God...it could well be a parade from that bullpen just trying to find somebody not giving up a run just to get an out each time.
  7. Well that sucked
  8. Boy does this team look like its going to cruise to the end of the season. Which is fine. They are going to win the division. Its a long season. I just hope they can sharpen the razor back up again going into the post season. They are playing from hammocks right now.
  9. I have not been happy with the way the Boston media has just opted to be pushing JD over Mookie. Mookie makes ridiculous plays in the field and then comes to plate and is a ridiculously good hitter and is a ridiculously smart and effective base runner AND its Mookies team. Its not JD's team. Yet I have heard buckets of Boston Media types flat out call JD the league MVP over Mookie. Then to hear this odd description of a league MVP while somebody else on the same team is the so called Team MVP is a bit much for me. Besides, I just don't get it. I guess I would get it if media types outside of Boston were doing it. Don't get Boston media types doing it.
  10. I don't understand that last discussion about MVP in the booth. Used to be that league MVP was awarded to the guy that had the most impact on his TEAM. That was the MVP. So there was no such animal as a distinction between the league MVP and a team MVP. The team MVP that was judged most impactful to his team was the league MVP. Does Eck really think his 1992 MVP came as a result of being the league's best player? I don't think so.
  11. Well he had that one return and went right back on the DL. So throwing 100 directly to the DL is not terrible encouraging. Clearly the Sox are being very careful with him. In fact, they have been careful with him through the whole season hoping not to be where they are right now by season end.
  12. I think its about time we realize that Sale's discomfort was and is a bit more than discomfort. They are handling him very very carefully which is likely the right thing to do. I just think its kinda' funny Eck and OB going on about top pitchers out for other teams as if we just got this knocked with Chris Sale.
  13. With Sale back that is a solid three starters which you have to have in the post season. You also need a 4th but he does not have to be the calibre of your top 3. You just have to hope your #4 pitches a bit over his head. Post season gets tough on the rotation guys though if you have a weak pen. As good as the 2017 Astros rotation was, Hinch still got stuck using Morton on short rest (I think that was the game Hinch pulled his starter waaaay early) and Hinch also got caught in an "all starters in" game before it was over. Don't think Cora will be able to show us what he has planed even up through the last series of the regular season other than setting his Division series rotation.
  14. Hinch actually played his pen last year much like Cora has got to play it this year. Hinch had a much weaker pen last year than he has now and he left his starters in till they just could not go any further. Tried as much as he could to let his pen guys start clean innings or only have one out to get to get out of an inning. There was only one game where Hinch got the starter out early and that one was waaaaaay early. Cora has got to resign himself to that. Our pen is not going to get enough better to matter in what remains of the season. The question marks are: - is our rotation good enough to pull that off. The Astro's rotation was - is our pen even as good as the Astros 2017 pen was - will Cora figure it out Probably Cora figures it out because he was there to watch Hinch do it in 2017. Questions 1 and 2 ..............
  15. The only play Gonzales had was the play he didn't make. His only play was to try to catch it in the air and he definitely had a very good shot at it if he took it. Once he decided to let it drop, he was toast. Better for him to see the ball just bounce out to the wall if he missed it than to play it like he did. Thank God we won this one.
  16. Cora should take Gonzales to dinner too. That was ugly. Shouldn't have let the ball drop and shouldn't have tried to play it bare handed once he let it drop. The home plate ump deserves a free meal too.
  17. What an odd baseball game. But we will take it!
  18. You really can't blame Cora for this sludge pen. That is on DD. But Cora needs to get real about the pen we have and how much stress he is going to have to put on the rotation to give these pen guys clean innings.
  19. Does it occur to you that we are?
  20. Well at least its X with a shot to win it.
  21. Injuries and the division the Astros play in vs the division we play in. 19 games each with the Rays, Jays and O's is heavenly.
  22. Yup..absolutely only reason to pinch hit Swi for Nunez was to give Swi a chance at a Sac fly to RF, easier to execute than a base hit especially if you get the right pitch which Swi got. Lots for Cora to take from this game for the post season.
  23. I don't know what Cora told Swi going into that AB. But if it was push the ball into the air to RF, which is what he should have wanted from Swi, he had a perfect pitch for that 0-0 and let it go by. The only reason to pinch hit for Nunez there is because Nunez would not likely push the ball in the air to RF on that pitch or any other pitch. That was a pretty epic fail from swi followed by another from Vaz. Swi had an easier task and failed.
  24. Swi had a shot to push the ball in the air to RF early in the count and let it go by. Not at all sure what he was thinking. Cora has over managed the game from the moment he opted to take Porcello out.
  25. Well if Swi can just get it in the air, it is probably a run. Maybe Cora thinks Swi has a better shot at that.
