  1. If someone said that a good year for Salty would be a bad year for Martin before this season, I would have agreed with them. But this is the best offensive production that Salty's ever had at the major league level and while his defense is certainly blow average, it's a lot closer to average than I thought it was going to be. And if Martin keeps hitting the way he has been since April he's going to be under the Mendoza line by August.
  2. Martin's been a league average defensive catcher since 2008. He really hasn't been all that noticeably better than Salty defensively this year.
  3. Nice! Mo's blown 4x as many saves as Papelbon this year. How strange is that?
  4. Do we really have to leave Houston? I was glad to see Beckett back in top form, I was concerned about him after he missed 2 starts and then threw so few curveballs that I could count them on one hand in his last start.
  5. I would disagree that stating Gardner is the best defensive player in all of baseball is evidence he should be going to the All-Star game when he's 6th in WAR among outfielders. And I think the fact that you continue to make a case for players who are anywhere from 3rd to 6th best at their position demonstrates your bias. If you said the Yankees had many borderline players who were close to making the cut, I'd agree with you. But I think to say that the Yankees have 7 or more players who deserve to go to the All-Star game is being biased.
  6. Houston has the worst bullpen ERA in baseball. If their bullpen dominates us then we're in trouble.
  7. I don't understand why you were arguing with me then. I never stated that Yankees weren't snubbed. I stated that it was comical that the Yankees had 6 All-Stars, many of which didn't deserve to be there, and the Yankees announcers were upset that they didn't have more than 6 All-Stars named from their team. Even you don't think the Yankees should have had more than 6 All-Stars.
  8. I'm sure plenty of people are going to disagree with me on this but between Drew, Reddick and Navarro the Red Sox should be able to piece together league average production in right field. And considering we lead the majors in runs and OPS, I think we have more pressing issues.
  9. It's the rule, not the exception that hitters tend to struggle more against pitchers they haven't seen much of before.
  10. If you don't want to talk about what the announcers said, then why'd you respond to my post making fun of what the announcers said to tell me how their complaining was legitimate? You're the one who took me saying that it was silly that 6 Yankees made the All-Star game and their announcers were complaining hat more didn't make the team and turned it into "the Yankees have players who were snubbed, it's ridiculous to say otherwise". Do you seriously believe that more than 6 Yankees players deserved to make the All-Star game? If not then you also disagree with what the announcers were saying, although you may not find it as comical as I did.
  11. And I think you're ignoring how comical it is that they're complaining that more Yankees didn't make the team when Derek Jeter, Robinson Cano and Russell Martin made the team. Not to mention, their reasons for Sabathia making the team, although he is deserving, were terrible. Being a good role model and playing for the Yankees doesn't make someone an All-Star.
  12. Keep an eye on how many curves Beckett throws tonight. I think he may be dealing with finger "contusions".
  13. Cano is 5th among AL 2B in WAR. He doesn't deserve the nod. Even if you go purely on offense, Kendrick has a better OPS+ and wOBA. I'm glad Pedroia and Youkilis didn't make it because they could use the rest with their foot, knee and ankle issues. I wish Beckett wasn't selected because I think he may be dealing with some blister issues.
  14. I never said that it was ridiculous to point out that the Yankees had some snubs. I thought it was ridiculous that the Yankees announcers were complaining that they should have had more All-Stars when they already have 6 and half of them don't deserve to be there. If 3-4 more players from their team were added, that would take up more than 1/3 of the roster and leave just more than 1 player per each remaining team.
  15. You could make a case for Cano or Martin, but they truth is that they each rank 5th in WAR among AL players at their position. Even the argument that Cano deserve the nod based purely on offense doesn't have much validity to it when you consider that Kendrick has a better OPS+ and wOBA and he plays better defense.
  16. LOL Yankees announcers are complaining about how every team having to be represented hurt them and they should have had more All-Stars selected. I guess 6 picks, 3 of them undeserving, just wasn't enough for them.
  17. I'd like to see us add a bottom of the rotation starter more than anything. Our offense is the best in baseball, our defense is one of the best in baseball, our pitching has been average. We don't need a top of the rotation pitcher, we've got 3 of those. But a little insurance that we'll make the playoffs by a safe margin would be nice. I'd hate to see it come down to a close race because Lackey, Miller and Wakefield couldn't get their act together.
  18. Anyone else notice that Pedroia is on pace for the best WAR of his career thanks to his walk rate, OBP and great defense? If he hits for power in the second half he could be an 8 WAR player this year.
  19. I just wanted to take a moment to thank Yankees fans for voting Jeter and Cano into the All-Star game. I didn't care when the All-Star game mattered, but when it means home field advantage in the World Series, it would be nice to not have two of the worst fielding middle infielders in the AL this year.
  20. I always thought Britton was overrated, I was kind of hoping the Padres would have wanted him in the Gonzalez deal. He's a two pitch pitcher who struggles with his fastball command. He's been working on a change and a 2-seamer but neither one of them are very good and he knows it so he rarely throws them.
  21. Miller was hit in the back by a line drive up the middle and I don't think the Red Sox wanted him hitting in the 7th inning. The move paid off as his pinch hitter Navarro hit a home run.
