  1. I'm sure Epstein would like the deal but there's no way in hell that the Giants will trade for a 32 year old with a huge contract who needs Tommy John. At least Zito will be able to pitch even if he doesn't do well.
  2. He missed a full month last year and still put together a historically good season. I'm not worried it at this point.
  3. Jesus, I hope Lester has some kind of a sudden illness. There wasn't any signs of injury, but if he's actually hurt we could be in trouble.
  4. Of course it was Drew of all people who started the 2 out rally.
  5. We should trade for R.A. Dickey. Just imagine how many lineups it would mess up to pitch Beckett then Dickey then Lester then Wakefield then Buchholz.
  6. http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2008/08/080827-tooth-stemcell.html I think I just solved the Lackey problem!
  7. Lackey's not going to get DFA'd. He's been having elbow issues which is why he went on the DL and it looks like the cortisone shot he got may have helped at first when he came off the DL but now it's probably worn off and it's not like he can get one every month. Eventually, he's going to need Tommy John. If we're fortunate, we'll DL Lackey as soon as we pick up a pitcher and he'll be back in the majors by 2013 and pitch effectively for the last two years of his contract.
  8. I can't believe you said that, that's such a tasteless joke. Lackey's not nearly as good as Lidle was!
  9. None of this would have happened if we had a better rightfielder!
  10. Our bullpen's WAR is 5th in he majors, 3rd in the AL and our rotation's WAR is 18th in the majors, 10th in the AL.
  11. Anyone guess 7 runs before Francona took him out?
  12. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the Red Sox trade for a starter and then DL Lackey so he can have Tommy John. I think they'll try to wait it out so they don't look desperate for pitching.
  13. Lackey's not fooling anyone. Hitters are making contact with 74.2% of the pitches he's throwing for balls and 91.7% of the pitches he throws for strikes. Time for Tommy John.
  14. Can we please get someone warmed up now?
  15. Can Beckett pitch his bullpens in place of Lackey's starts from now on?
  16. I'm gonna be there. Unfortunately, Lackey will be pitching one of the games.
  17. How many runs will Francona leave Lackey in there for today? 5... 7... 10?
  18. Don't worry guys, at this pace we'll just need to score 10 runs. We got this!
  19. It's so nice to see a normal lineup again.
  20. I disagree. I would be very surprised if the Mets traded Beltran for garbage prospects.
  21. Reddick is already seeing well below the league average percentage of fastballs and the only breaking ball he's struggled with is the curveball to a small degree.
  22. I'll just respond to everywhere in this post. I'm not concerned about the bullpen, I think our bullpen is good enough to be a serious contender. I'm concerned about our starting pitching which statistically has been our weakest area. I'm not comfortable with John Lackey, Andrew Miller, Tim Wakefield and Kevin Millwood making nearly half of our remaining starts or more if someone gets hurt. I don't think the Mets are going to help us out by taking garbage prospects from us in return for Beltran. Beltran is earning his salary this year and if he's traded on July 31st, the team that acquires him will only be responsible for something like $6 million of his salary anyways. We're not the only team that's interested in him, in addition to taking on his salary it's going to take mid-level prospects. As for Josh Reddick, what adjustment do you anticipate pitchers making?
