  1. Bingo. Papelbon said that he didn't want to go into a match-up-offer war. Philadelphia made him an attractive offer first. If Boston had made a formal offer first and not just wait to match it up, another scenario would have been. You bet. He is arguably the best closer in the league these days maybe just below Mo. He is an ace in the position. He won't be easy to replace IMO.
  2. I don't have idea what are the terms of this mysterious Theo comp. If there's no predefined terms (likely to me, hope I'm wrong), his value right now is close to zero, since he is already with the Cubs. IMO they should negotiate those terms (value) before his departure from Boston. If they didn't predefine his value, Boston's position in order to negotiate the comp will be tough. I guess that the Cubs will give to Boston whatever they consider this Theo's value is/was. This is no longer a Boston's call IMO.
  3. Btw what about Reddick + Ranaudo and Theo for Garza... That could sound more interesting for them, don't you think? or is too much?
  4. From a sox fan perspective I like it, I'd make it in a heartbeat. On the other hand, If you were a Cub fan, would you accept this? I'm not sure how much is the value of this Theo compensation, that would be likely the key of the negotiation. Ben would sell very high that compensation. Sounds weired but Theo would do just the opposite. Can we compete against this?
  5. Seems so... This is supposed to be a GM's call, isn't it? If LL impose the manager against BC's call, Cherington should have the balls and put his renouncement. And you know what? I would clap him. That would show the FO that he wouldn't accept to be a puppet.
  6. If this team fails again, Luchino's head will role next year. It is evident that Cherington is not the decision maker in this team, so... Luchino won't have more scapegoats like Theo or Tito. I'm not sure how does Cherington feel about all this mess..
  7. Can Ben Cherington trust Bobby Valentine? Does Larry Lucchino trust Ben Cherington? Red Sox tangled in issues of trust. Decision on manager seems to be caught in Cherington-Lucchino-Valentine http://espn.go.com/boston/mlb/story/_/id/7292546/boston-red-sox-manager-choice-comes-trust
  8. I heard that too, when he was with the twins. But I still believe that with the right strong-hand manager, he would fit just find here, plus he is more mature.
  9. I wouldn't be surpriesed that Papelbon considered this issue as a strong point among others and beyond the money to go to Philly... BTW seems like we need to end our posts with a "in my opinion" every time we make a post in order to clarify that we don't claim the true as a flag, huh?
  10. I'm pretty sure that nobody around here have claimed to know the accurate facts, all of us have made assuptions /opinions, in the end this is all about, isn't it?, then, we can agree or not. That's all. Some of us share your opinion about this issue. The longer they wait, the more it won't look good. But again, that's our perception btw....notice that I'm not claiming to know the facts
  11. I'm business consultant not magician my friend :harhar: BTW great to hear you got the job. Congrats!
  12. That is the kind of move I would have wanted for our team. That would have been a nice start, after the epic collapse. Hope that Cherington surprise us.
  13. Agree. It doesn't look good at all from an outside-in perspective. A lot of time has passed and any move yet. As I said, and beyond the time that has passed, I'd hope that they have at least a plan or a strategy to face this 2012 offseason; the thing is, that the more I read the more my concerns grow and grow in our moving forward to fill our several holes which IMO are more important than the manager or Theo compensation.
  14. At least they should consider the entire Theo compensation (whatever it means) as a part of the deal-package for Garza, of course, if they really are trying to go after him. On the other hand, I'm not sure if we have the pieces that the Cubs need. They are asking for elite prospect pitchers, aren't they? It would be great land a guy like Garza, that's for sure.
