  1. Wonder who is the responsable on this "misread value". If this is on Ben, he must go. This thing, should't take it lightly IMO.
  2. They could have signed him before, for a lot less money and they didn't. Then they entered in a bidding war they knew they wouldn't win without putting 150 M on the desk. They put 135 M... Almost the double of that 70 M offer and still wasn't enough. Somebody explain to me like a 10 YO, how a pitcher gets the double of value in a couple of months. A 150 M contract is overpaying, and that is what the Cubs did... But do not fool yourself, our FO let this happen and knew in what they were getting into when they cheat Lester with a 70M offer (... or at least I want to think that). What happens with Lester from now, is irrelevant for us, but yeah...Lester will most likely decline and again.. This will be on Theo.
  3. Good point. Seems like only DET is seriously for him. Should we start a bidding war?...can we win this time?
  4. Probably interested teams will start at that amount. Something around 175-200 gets the deal done IMO. The 1 M question is... Can we afford that amount of money?
  5. At this point my 200 M take it or leave it offer seems like massively overpaid offer to me LOL! I really really really doubt he gets more than 200M; and if so, I do not see a 50 M-value + gap between him and Lester by any means. Agree, we should go after him or at least try... Seems like only Detrot is seriously in the pursuit. The bad thing is that probably more teams will be added in that wagon. Things for the Sox could turn complicated in the pursuit of elite pitching, we'll see though.
  6. Agreed. Nothing more to say... This FO screwed this big time. Wonder if they are interested in pursuit Scherzer.
  7. Is anybody still thinking that Scherzer is going to get more than 200M? I really doubt it.
  8. Seems like LAD are officially out too.
  9. If the proposals are similar and Lester ends up in Chicago, that 70 M offer will speak volumes.
  10. Thing is, with Lester aboard, the offseason for us would be most likely easier since a lot of pitchers still out there and we will have more room to negotiate better.
  11. Me too hahaha.
  12. On ESPN deportes are saying that Lester will pick up Boston if Cub's ofer is close to the Red Sox. I'm not sure what "close" mean, but seems like Boston at least has the edge. We'll se though.
  13. My initial idea was sign Lester and Shields and trade/sign for a mid-rotation arm, and DO NOT TRADE anyone "talented". We have the money and chips to get it done.
  14. Not sure what "few years" mean to you, 2?, 3?... I think they need to show something substantial in 2015 like making the POs or something otherwise probably Theo will be in trouble. Either way, hopefully Theo doesn't eat Ben's lunch.
  15. it's still early, but this team has struggled a lot assembling solid pitching staffs in the recent years. Thanks God, out there are plenty of options... hopefully they get it done this year.
  16. right now... what would be your take it or leave it offer? 220? 250? or you just wait... what would be your approach with Scherzer if you were Ben?
  17. Well, a 200 M offer right now to Scherzer, makes more sense than that 70 M offer to Lester few months ago.
  18. mmm... IMO Lester is going to set the market value... since he hasn't signed.. A 200 M offer right now could make sense to me. on the other If he signs after Lester, I expect he asks for more, of course.... What is the number you have in mind if a team wants to sign Scherzer?
  19. haha i don't get it mvp. You mean he wouldn't take it?
  20. I would make him right now a 200 M take-it-or-leave-it offer.
  21. Unless we have an ace in the farm near to debut, which I doubt it, we have to make us to the idea that we have to compromise 50 + M every year from now for at least 2 solid SPs. I'm tired of this pitching issue. This is the BOS Red Sox we are talking about, not the KCR... So JH surely will overpay if he hits the FA, but every offseason is always the same with big fish FAs anyway, we must get used to that.
  22. Hi Fred, how are you? Hoping everything is doing right with you my friend. The way I see the thing is... You have Betts and Castillo, who are unproven at MLB level. I would go slow with them. Then you have two injury-prone players in Victorino and Hanley. Also, I'm crossing fingers and hoping that Xander and Craig do not underperform again. All I'm saying is that Cespedes could help you a lot if something goes wrong. On the other hand, if we can get a legit and solid arm no named Leake, Porcello or Latos, use a package around Cespedes to bring that arm. We'll see how this ends up though. If we do not sign Lester, they will push for Shields aggressively IMO, and probably will try to trade for Hamels or Cueto. In the end we need at least 2 legit 1st-tier arms to get it done, otherwise we will suffer again with our pitching next season.
  23. Exactly! We have plenty of #3,4,5. We need an ace and a 1st-tier pitcher like Shields.
  24. I know those names will cost Cespedes+. I just don't want to see a pitcher like Leake, Latos or Porcello around here and giving Cespedes for one of them. I prefer keeping Cespedes all the time.
  25. Cespedes for Porcello?, please pass. Other no named Hamels, Cueto or Price... Pass.
