  1. Um. Ok. So many ignorant statements. Where to start? Mike Aviles wRC+ (Runs Created): 74 Mike Aviles DRS/yr (Defensive Runs Saved over 1,200 innings): 15 Total Value: 89 Runs Saved and Created Iglesias DRS/yr (2012 numbers): 43 Brendan Ryan hit .194/.277/.278. He had a wRC+ of 64. For argument's sake, we'll say Iggy tanks and has that line. Total Value (61 + 43): 104 Runs Saved and Created Zero statistical data. Thanks for playing. On to the next. You say the Sox would have easily lost 100 games if Iglesias was at SS. That's even more hilarious. Can you please, since you're so enamored by statistical proof that you attempted to negate my theory because of a lack of it, provide some statistical proof that Iglesias over Aviles would have cost the Red Sox 7 losses? Because the way I see it, Aviles has a 1.8 WAR. Iglesias, in just 25 games, had a 0.3 WAR. And Iggy's WAR is only 0.3 because he played just 25 games. Aviles's 1.8 WAR/136 Games = 0.013 WAR/Game, over 162 Games = 2.10 Iglesias's 0.3 WAR/25 Games = 0.012 WAR/Game, over 162 Games = 1.95 2.10 - 1.95 =/= -7.00 And that's with Iglesias hitting .118. So....your argument is kind of completely destroyed. Good try, though, just blindly throwing out ********.
  2. Why wouldn't they just promote Arnie Beyeler if they want someone familiar with the farm??
  3. Yeah I heard that, but I also think that Seattle is over him. They were going after Belt this past deadline. They're looking for another 1B. The M's sent him back and forth to AAA all year, and he is in his mid 20's. I don't think they're too big on him.
  4. That would be a silly reason to pick a manager.
  5. Ike would cost a ton more than Smoak. The point of getting Smoak would be that we could keep our elite prospects.
  6. Exactly. I didn't know if I was going to get crushed for the idea, but I really think the Mariners are essentially done with him. Again, if you can buy low on him (Think: Drake Britton + Josh Fields), then it would certainly be worth looking into. Like you said, he was a really big time prospect (#13 prospect pre-2010), and SafeCo likely suppressed his numbers to a substantial degree. The talent is still there, maybe going from Safeco to Fenway will turn him around (See: Adrian Beltre).
  7. The Sox should hire Brad Ausmus to manage. Then wait for Farrell to be fired, and see if you can hire him as your pitching coach. If not, check in on Pedro. I think he'd love to be a pitching coach, and I'd love it if he could teach some of our young guys (Webster, De La Rosa, Barnes) his change up.
  8. Because defense up the middle is incredibly valuable. Essentially, the way I see it, Aviles's offense is going to be better than Iglesias's offense. But the increased defense that Iglesias provides over Aviles and the runs saved is greater than the increased offense that Aviles provides over Iggy. Since SS is such an important defensive position, I would rather have Iggy than Aviles. If it was LF or something, I go with the better offense. If we're going to get a s***** offensive player at SS, which is what Aviles and Iglesias are, at least give me the one with the gold glove who is going to save run after run on the defensive side of the ball.
  9. Out of the box idea if we don't want to spend a lot in prospects - We could see if Justin Smoak would be a buy low candidate. He may be a perfect guy for a change of scenery, and he would cost the Sox very little. If we could get him for a deal around a guy like Drake Britton, he'd be worth considering.
  10. Texas and Arizona match up entirely too well to not get a deal done involving Justin Upton for Elvis Andrus.
  11. Go listen to some of Alex Speier's Down on the Farm podcasts. They're really good, and he discusses owens in quite a few of them. Here's an article he wrote before the trade deadline, discussing the Sox chips:
  12. Guys - It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter if Aviles was good enough to start with the Royals or not. We gave him a season to see what he could do, and now we know that he isn't an everyday SS. His defense was average, but his offense was atrocious. He posted a .663 OPS in one of the most hitter friendly parks in baseball, especially for pull happy RHH. Right now, this team's best option at SS is Iglesias or, if you want to push him a bit and see if he's ready and swallow some lumps while he learns at the MLB level, Bogaerts.

  14. A lot of scouts and coaches think that Owens has the highest ceiling of any of our pitching prospects. I'd rather have Owens than Webster.
  15. Both Cain and Hamels were extended before they hit FA. And they weren't about to be traded, hence them being extended. The Sox had no chance at either of them.
  16. That was vintage Lincecum tonight. I wonder if the Sox could work out a deal for both Lincecum and Belt. Ellsbury + Webster + Cecchini + Britton?
  17. Right, so you can get more for him now for a full year of production and, when he leaves, a draft pick to replace what you're giving up. If you trade him at the deadline, you're going to get nothing because he's not going to sign an extension and the acquiring team isn't going to get any compensation for him.
  18. He's precisely the guy that the Red Sox should target. He's still developing. He played 1 full season in the minor leagues before being called up to the majors last year (2011). In 2010, he hit .352/.455/.620 in 3 levels. In 2011, he played 49 games of AAA and hit .309/.448/.527. He's a guy who will grind out AB's, take walks, and crush the ball when you leave a mistake pitch somewhere. He's got an oppo field swing, perfect for Fenway, even if it does give him a s*** ton of doubles and only 25 HR. He's well worth a deal for Ellsbury, who isn't going to sign here next year, and Webster, who is going to be very good it appears, but you have to give up something to get something.
  19. You'll get a hell of a lot more for Ellsbury by trading him before the season, when a team can get a draft pick for him if he leaves for FA.
  20. You're putting entirely too much emphasis on his numbers for his first year in the bigs. A ton of players struggle in their first season in the bigs. And he's 24. Gomez is 27. If you're building for the future, he's a great guy to build around. Go read scouting reports on Brandon Belt. He only had 189 games in the minor leagues. His feet are barely wet in professional baseball. You can't just look at his numbers and say he's going to suck. Jesus Montero had a .685 OPS this year. Robbie Cano had a .778 OPS in his rookie season. Joe Mauer had a .783 OPS in his rookie season. Youk had a .780 OPS in his rookie year. Point being - You can't judge a guy based on rookie year numbers. You see what a guy does in the minors, you look at his tools, and you see if they translate. Belts translate.
  21. Yeah because he has oppo field power. He's also only 24 years old (turned 24 in April, so a fresh 24 too). And SF isn't exactly a hitter friendly park. Belt was the #23 prospect going into 2011. He has power, he is still learning MLB pitching. He's going to hit for a ton more power. He'll be a 25-30 HR guy, but he would pelt the monster with doubles too. Again, he's only 24 years old. He's certainly a guy worth building around.
  22. You can't sign and trade in baseball. You have to wait until June to trade a player you just signed, barring approval. For those who were saying "Why would the Giants trade Brandon Belt?", check out the Giants lineup tonight. Against a RHP. It's Beltless.
  23. Brandon Belt is not a maybe. He's going to be a stud, IMO. He's a ridiculous hitter and a great defender. If the Red Sox pulled off a deal for him, it would be a fantastic deal, even if they had to get rid of Webster and Ellsbury for him.
  24. Yes, I did mean Brandon Belt. And I am discussing trading Brandon Belt because the Giants have Buster Posey, who is not going to be a long term solution at C, and needs to play some 1B. It was just a couple weeks ago that Bochy put Belt in LF so they could put Posey at 1B. Belt was with the Giants all season and only started 102 games. Going forward, he's going to be a 1B first and a C second. So you've got Sandoval at 3B, Posey at 1B, why wouldn't you try to get a player who could help your team for Belt? The Sox could trade Ellsbury + Webster + Montas for Belt and probably make the deal happen. A high caliber MLB player who helps next year, a high caliber arm who will help in the future, and a guy who throws 100 who could help their pen in the future.
  25. Ohh I remember these. I thought we were talking about the whole "who is worth more" on the Youk trade. Alright. Pony up the sig, I'll wear it.
